Last June I took delivery of my 2019 Triumph Scrambler 1200XC. It was a press fleet bike, so it had 1850 miles on it, but that also meant that it was 2/3 of the MSRP (I was out the door at $9,999), and came to me as a new sale with a complete, full factory warranty. Since I've had my Triumph it's been my primary commuter, and I'll see 12,000 miles on the clock this month. I have no real complaints regarding my Triumph, but you may find (as I did) that if you don't turn-off the key fob when you're not riding (hold the button until the led goes red), the battery in it will only last about a month, and you'll start getting an annoying "key out of range" icon on the TFT. I also learned that Triumph tries to discourage consumers from performing their own service and maintenance. When I hit 10k on the odometer the service icon illuminated on the TFT, and I dutifully performed my 10k service. It was then that I discovered that there is no way to shut off the service icon without taking the bike to the dealer (who may, or may not charge you a fee to plug into their equipment and clear the icon). I hit the interwebs, and found a blue-tooth scan tool on Amazon that plugs into the ALDL behind the left side cover (less than $30), and there is an Android-based app ($11) that allows you to not only clear the service icon from the TFT, but gives you the ability to diagnose and trouble shoot anything and everything that is electrical on the bike; an excellent investment if you don't want to be bothered with the time and expense of taking your Triumph to the dealer every time you need to clear a service icon from the TFT. I should also mention that I'm not affiliated or compensated in any way shape or form by the developers or purveyors of the scan tool or the app to accomplish these maintenance tasks. Anyway, the Scrambler 1200XC has been an ideal bike for commuting and recreational riding where I live and work in southern California's Mojave desert. The bike does extremely well on the asphalt, and pretty good for a bike it's weight on hard-ball or packed dirt. When the sand starts to get deep, things get a little sketchy, but it could just as easily be a function of my ability (or lack there-of) to ride the bike in those conditions. In closing, congratulations on your new Triumph! I predict that you will really enjoy the bike, and have a long, happy relationship with it, as I am having with mine.
As you said, this bike is quite heavy for dirt riding. I remember when the Honda 305 Scrambler came along. that bike was a blast to ride back in the day. Those high mounted exhaust pipes really made the look of the bike great, along with the knobby tires. The sound too was very different and sweet. I don't recall the weight of the bike, but it was quite manageable. As I recall, Triumph built a scrambler back then, as well.
Excited to see TFL bikes now! Wish u guys success!! 2 cents: You should shoot the title screen in doors! It won't ever be covered properly outside! The camera man is breading in the mic! You need to use wireless collar microphones!
i ran a charging cable from under the seat, towards the front, under the gas tank, comes up with the bundle of wires in the left, over to the handlebars, and attached to the phone which is secured to a PEAK iPhone holder. the cable is always connected, but powers in and off with the ignition. Really convenient. i love this triumph scrambler 1200XC
You’re going to really enjoy that bike, I have an XE and it’s pretty modern on one hand but harkens back to a time when motorcycling was simple and elemental. Bring an extra non-battery key with you because if your battery dies you can use the alternate key under the seat to start it. For those who are concerned about the leg heater if you can keep the speed up a little bit like 30ish mph it’s not bad at all. Slower going will have you feeling some heat once it is warmed up. Roman should get the blue tooth module, I hear you can start stop your blue tooth enabled GoPro from the handlebar controls with it.
Hey Roman. A friend of mine bought that bike a year ago. I have to say, that bike is surprisingly good in the dirt. I have a tiger xca and we've done some pretty rough dirt roads in arizona. That scrambler handles them great. I think you are going to be really happy with it.
Erico is a great place. I flew out to Denver a couple years ago for a wedding and Erico was my first stop. Spent a couple hours there and talked with several employees, they were all super cool.
My 2006 BMW GS had those tubeless spoked wheels. The Triumph looks great but if any bike ever screamed for a license plate/turn signal relocation this one is it.
Most modern in helmet communication (sena, cardo) will bluetooth directly with your phone, so you can have voice command access to it while it's locked away.
You press (and hold) the Triumph logo on the key fob to turn off the signal which prevents someone potentially stealing the bike by relaying the signal from inside your house to the bike. Like the classic keyless entry car theft. The little WiFi symbol changes from green to red. It's not to see of the battery is good or not.
If you are considering this bike make sure you do the research on the keyless ignition. It has been a nightmare for plenty of owners, it's why I went with the Desert Sled.....I currently have 3 other Triumphs, but keyless ignition is a deal breaker.
Good review, beautiful bike. I am somewhat confused by the under seat phone setup. So you hook it up and if you get the option, you can manipulate the phone thru the screen in the bike? That’s kinda sick if true.
Congrats on the new Scrambler! I was looking at the Triumph's just a few weeks ago. I also really like the Triumph Scrambler. Back in the day I owned a 500 Tiger model which ran like the wind. Those bikes are a lot faster than the specs would lead you to believe. Now go put some miles on that thing!
Great. Now I can watch your programm for the Triumph and the JLR Defender. I have got the XE for one year now and it is the best and most fun vehicle I had so far. The Defender is more a technical (electronic) adventure but still much better than your experience.
Wow I need another m/c! Great overview. The phone charging compartment would work great with a Garmin Zumo GPS. It has the ability to connect via Bluetooth so you can see if you’re getting a call or text. You can do even more but I just keep it simple and respond when I’m stopped. Simple is safer I think.
I’ve had a bonneville t120 ace edition for over a year... beautiful bike and mine is 1000 of 1400 but I wanted the versatility of a scrambler... test drove scrambler 1200 xc and there was no way I was giving up my bonneville for it. Looked into 2020 desert sled and purchased one in February... am loving it... don’t know if I will get rid of my bonneville (it is paid for)... but if I could only keep one bike it would be the desert sled... it doesn’t have all the gizmos but I think desert sled is much better scrambler
Cool bike man. I really dig those . If you get a chance try out a sportster it's a fantastic motorcycle if you appreciate the simplicity of it and its endurance.
Cool bike, but the first thing you have to do is install proper mufflers. You have to get that thing actually sounding like a proper Triumph. I had a 2017 T-100 Bonnie, and I loved it. The only problem was that it sounded like a 350 Honda.
How about friend, I wanted to ask you a question. I am interested in buying a new motorcycle and I doubt between the triumph speed twin and the new guzzi v7 850cc ... I know they are not in the same segment, but I don't know if the guzzi would be somewhat short on the highway and in that situation the speed would be more convincing. a greeting from Spain.
@@TFLbike Wrong - for a man who did tonnes of research you sure got a lot wrong (key fob, tyres). On the XC, Offroad mode only disables rear ABS but reduces the intrusiveness of the front ABS. The OffRoadPro mode which turns off the front ABS is XE only.
Dump the cat and put a tec cam in which gives it a bit of top-end. But it IS a bit you can have great fun on without chasing three figure speeds all the time.
In my neighborhood in the Twin Cities someone tried stealing my 11 yr old Honda scooter. People will steal anything not nailed down to the ground these days.
@3:22 re the key fob "it lights up and tells you how strong the battery is" - WTF? The button is to check the STATUS of the fob and to turn it on and off. A short press showing red means the fob is off - green = on. A long press changes the mode. This is to save the battery in the fob and to make sure the electrical system isn't accidentally live should the the fob kept reasonably close to the bike. If you leave the fob on all the time the battery will run down in a couple of months and you'll start getting plagued with "fob not in range" errors - as you also will if it's fitted with a cheap generic CR2032 battery (like the rubbish they fit from the factory). Put a decent branded one in.
Glad you got yourself a Triumph and glad you like it but please can you stop the references to the old Triumph company that went bust in the 1970's. The modern Triumphs are not related in anyway other than by name. There is no continuity of heritage. The new ones are probably better if somewhat over weight. Additionally they are not British (other than the design) - parts are from Taiwan and they are assembled in Thailand. I own a US spec 1978 Bonneville, it is lighter and far more spritely and nimble than the modern Bonneville. It is far less reliable I would guess. I have owned modern Triumphs and they are sweet but since the change to Thai assembly they have lost something.
Moving production to Thailand was simply unacceptable - they're still expecting "premium" Brit-bike prices for a Thai bike - this will be their undoing. I don't mind if cheaper bikes were built there to compete - like the new Trident - the premium bikes should have stayed UK made. That's what you get for putting your idiot globalist son in charge - knows the value of nothing.

Facts? "The XE has more knobby tyres" (wrong) "the fob shows battery strength" (wrong), fails to mention the other extras on the XE such as IMU managed cornering ABS and traction control (non-IMU on the XC), off road pro mode, heated grips and handguards. Thought the same thing and was just about to comment about that, but you beat me to the punch. :-)
My dream bike
Love Scramblers!
I like the looks of the scrambler but your leg is going to FRY in the summer sitting right on top of the exhaust!
I have same bike here in Australia. No problems with heat but I wear adventure boots
Can't wait
Nice looking bike.
I cringed a bit when you took the seat off and what looked like roughly placed it ot the concrete 😮
But can it wheelie ?
Yes 😉
Beautiful 🤩 machine
Hope you guys wear an airbag jacket when riding, those things can turn a fatal or life changing crash into a comfortable crash you could literally walk away from
The scrambler is the only Triumph tall enough for normal people.
The rest of the range are built for children.
P.S. My old Triumph, the seat opened on hinges.
Why would you want to take it off, and scuff it?
