I do like Lotso as a villain a lot. He is unpleasant but his actions as a villain and his evilness makes the movie's story a lot more epic and impressive
Merida deserves a sequel with an actually interesting and adventurous premise to give her a chance at character growth. Its a shame that most people see her as the worst of the Disney Princesses. She's one of my favorites because I liked the fact she had actual character flaws. Sadly I doubt Disney/Pixar would risk making another movie about her.
Merida failed in all the places where Mulan succeeded. And when we think about it hard enough, we can see that without her redemption arc, she could've become worse than Mordu. I'm not sure she's going to get a sequel.

There’s actually a sequel novel called Bravely! It’s about Merida who loves her family but feels bored and feeling that every day’s the same. So then this wizard or guy or whatever shows up and gives her a challenge that that if she doesn’t change her family, DunBroch will fall.
I seriously disagree with Lotso,especially the said reason for placing him on the list.Yes,his evil demeanor isn't shown from the start,but that was to put his secret plan in function and it almost worked.He is easily one of the best Pixar villains imo.
Yeah,Lotso was a good plot twist villain,starting as nice & cute,then forcing them to be played with by toddlers & putting them in jail. Honestly,my favorite out of the 4 is Toy Story 3
In my opinion Mater is a good comedic relief character. And when you dig a bit deeper, you can see that he is clearly a loyal friend. I mean even when everyone in radiator Springs hated lightning at the beginning of the film, understandably so but still, Mater was the first one (and for a time the only one) to treat him civilly. And later in Cars 3 we see that Mater is willing to help lightning solve an issue that’s been bugging him, a situation that doesn’t even concern Mater, and The tow truck is willing to stay up all night if that’s what it takes.
No doubt about it, without Mater in this franchise, I'm pretty sure that people would not have found any of the Cars movies entertaining at all. I mean who wasn't laughing at the scene where Mater takes Lightning tractor tipping or when he showed off his skills in backwards driving?
Lotso does not deserve to be on this list. Most of the other characters have legitimate writing issues, but Lotso is a very well written twist on Woody's character arc in the previous movie. An old, tired toy letting the world beat him down into a bitter person when Woody is on the brink of being set aside as Andy goes to college is fantastic for theming and for character dynamics.
I agree, when he betrays the toys near the end and also when he put buzz and all the other toys in the classroom with younger kids it was a really good few scenes and honestly I think he was a brilliant villain and played the role well. Edit: Lotso’s backstory and the way he projects on the other toys that “your owner doesn’t like you” just because of his past was amazing.
What? How does Mater suck? He's one of the best characters from the Pixar's Cars franchise being a funny, laid-back, and a great automobile sidekick to Lightning McQueen. I still think he's enjoyable in Cars 2, despite him getting majority of the spotlight.
Am I the only one who thinks Flik and Merida are overhated? The biggest problem with Flik is that he's part of a cliche nobody likes in its whole. And I personally prefer a heavily flawed character than one with no character at all.

I actually like Flik from A Bug's Life; the character from that film I find more deserving of a spot on this list is his love interest, Princess Atta, who was perfectly okay with letting Flik leave the colony even though she knew very well the expedition might cost him his life. She's the worst. Re: Brave -- I cut Merida some slack at first, because I was just that happy to see Pixar shine the spotlight on a female character at last, but now I'm fully aware of her flaws. The characters I have NOT changed my mind about are those horrible triplets. I hated them the first time I saw the movie, and I hate them still. HATE.
Plus, she didn't really believe in him getting help. She was more using Flik's idea as an excuse to get rid of him. Plus, when Flik’s lie was revealed, they act like Flik was the only one in the wrong, when Atta lied too.

Can you really blame Merida for feeling how she felt in the movie? Because her mother was making her do things that weren't even in her interests like Archery and sword fighting with her dad. And she didn't even want to be married to any of the sons of the clans that were enemies of her people. And her Mom barely asks her for what she wants

Usually hypocrites who would never in a million years marry the same dudes that Merida was being presented with (at 16...) but will call her selfish for not doing so. I do have a soft spot for Mater, and I will admit that while I don't care about most of the characters from "The Good Dinosaur", I do like the T. rex ranchers, especially the father voiced by Sam Elliott.
I do understand your reasoning for putting flick on the list. But I think he would be more of a mix of outsider and misunderstood genius. And I think he has enough funny lines and pleasantness to be likeable.
Just because Lotso looks cuddly and is really the opposite does not mean you have to hate him. To be honest, I thought Lotso’s betrayal and twist just made him even more iconic of a villain and he was great as a villain in the scene where he abandoned the toys when we thought he was redeemed just made him even more great

god i rewatched bugs life with the sound off over someones shoulder the other day, and i could hear the high pitch and annoying parts through their headphones.... never realized as a child that 75% of bugs life is just characters losing their minds in the most annoying way possible 😅
Making your own decisions as royalty is different than making decisions as an individual. Merida's journey is about changing her fate, but as a princess, her fate is intertwined with that of her entire kingdom. So, when she refuses to get married in such a flippant manner, she's not just risking her neck. She's risking the necks of everyone in her kingdom. Arranged marriages in those days would have primarily about securing political alliances and avoiding unnecessary wars. If you lived in Merida's kingdom and her refusal to get married caused a conflict to your home, would you be of the same opinion. Ariel's decisions hit differently because her running away doesn't affect her kingdom from a political aspect: Triton is still in power, and he has a multitude of daughters who could inherit the throne in his place. Her decisions are just attempts to satisfy her burning curiosity. There's also no indication of Ariel taking an interest in becoming a queen: The man she developed a crush on just happened to be a prince. If Merida had abdicated her throne instead, maybe the audience would have a different reaction.
Also, as I recall, Ariel is actually the youngest in her family while Merida is the oldest, meaning that Ariel likely has less of a claim to the throne than Merida, which also implies that she doesn't have the same obligations.
Flik from bug's Life has the SINGLE BEST SCENE in any Pixar I have ever seen. Picture: The grasshoppers have taken over. There's a fire burning over to the right and the ants are off to the other side. Flik, beaten and bruised, starts talking passionately to Hopper almost shouting. "I see them year after YEAR in the food for themselves and for you. So who's the weak one?! It's YOU who need US. ...." Hopper, remembering that one thing he told his brother. -the ants getting suspicious, starting to talk- We're lot stronger than you think.... -pauses- and you know that, don't you? Yes, even better than the first 10 minutes of Up. Oh, the horror! Yes you heard right Hopper was absolutely terrifying villain and Flik was absolutely fearless. Not movie but that one scene was gold.
But you’re not supposed to like Lotso. I don’t think you’re really supposed to root for any of the Pixar villains. And just because you’re not supposed to like him doesn’t mean he’s a bad character. He’s supposed to be testable for all of his actions. Yes his backstory is deeply sad but it doesn’t change the fact that his selfishness left Big Baby and Chuckles without their owner or the fact that he turned Sunnyside into a prison. He’s not likable but that doesn’t mean he’s a bad character. He was supposed to be the final boss for this franchise. A tragic tale of what Woody and company are at risk of being.

Disregarding any Pixar films I haven't seen yet (I.E.: Brave and Incredibles 2), I actually don't dislike any of the characters on this list, but I think you were especially too harsh on Lotso; because his cute façade, dark and troubled past, and overall lack of redeeming qualities make him my favorite villain in the Toy Story series, and I think Woody puts it best: *Woody:* "Wait, what about Daisy?" [Beat] *Lotso:* "I don't know what you're talking about." *Woody:* "Daisy? You used to do everything together?" *Lotso:* "Yeah, but then she threw us out." *Woody:* "No, she lost you!" *Lotso:* "SHE REPLACED US!!!" *Woody:* "She replaced *_you,_* and if *_you_* couldn't have her then *_no one_* could. You lied to Big Baby AND YOU'VE BEEN LYING EVER SINCE!!!" He's not likable but he's a good villain tho. He's the kinda guy you love to hate and it's satisfying to see him be the chump at the end and lose all his hard-stolen respect/fear.

4:11 Would you trust Evelyn? No? Good! Evelyn Deavor is a horrible villain! She sucks and I hate her so much! So, she does not deserve to be in Disney Emoji Blitz! She better not be in it! Plus, Syndrome and Mirage are way better than her. Why She's a Hypocrite of a Villain 1. Much like Miles Axlerod, Bellwether and Prince Hans, she's one of the most boring and humiliating villains ever yet. She is a generic endeavor mobster, who wants superheroes to stay illegal forever, which makes no sense! She lacks anything that's super and has no characteristics other than Evil Endeavor. . At least Syndrome from the last film had some well-written, excellent and humorous moments to make him a very enjoyable villains to sit through. But, Evelyn had no good traits, making her a really lousy villain. 2. She's considered one of the worst villains that Disney has ever made in 2018. Her true identity with The Screenslaver seems very obvious, due to her vague motives of helping Mrs. Incredible promote superheroes once more. Evelyn gets barely any screen-time as The Screenslaver before the reveal at the end of the film where she strands Mrs. Incredible in a cold area, smacking the goggles on her eyes, gives her brother, Winston, a dirty look, being a hypocrite, and brings him to an elevator, and worst of all, she escapes in a jet! She did all these things to prevent supers from being legal! That's just plain unacceptable! . Also, the supers got in trouble for no reason in the beginning after they were trying to defeat the Underminer, which is plain unacceptable as well! Not to mention, the detectives in the beginning are a dick to the supers for no reason. Accuse them for the Underminer's escape! That's just plain unfair! Worst of all, the they never apologized to the supers for their actions at the end! And there's no reason why people would these characters, Evelyn and the detectives! 3. DVD False Advertising: Evelyn is nowhere to be pictured on the poster, despite being the main villain. 4. Her motive is flat-out stupid and unclear: Despite, having clear intentions, she was charged for espionage, framing an innocent pizza delivery guy, security breaches, false imprisonment, violating FCC regulations when The Screenslaver hijacked a radio and TV atations, which just makes her pretty cliched! 5. Her plan is even more dumber and unclear than her motive and intentions: Her dead giveaways range from frequently giving weird evil-looking faces and drinking wine often. This seems to be obvious to the supers that Evelyn was an evil endeavor all along. What a gosh-darn witch! Redeeming Qualities 1. Catherine Keener did a great job voicing her. 2. Her design looks nice to look at. 3. She did get arrested at the end for all her crimes, which is all fine and good.
The worst is about Evelyn from Incredibles 2 is that she didn't even need to make superheros illegal because THEY ALREADY ARE! how the fuck does her plan make any goddamn sense? Supers are already outlawed and yet she goes with Mrs incredible to work with the government to make them legal again? Just to make them illegal AGAIN?! it makes no sense, is there anything I'm missing from this? It's been years since I last saw the film Ive only seen it once
Huh. This is actually the first time I've heard that some people genuinely disliked Lotso. Everyone else here is pretty understandable though, _especially_ the characters from The Good Dinosaur, which, IMO, is Pixar's weakest film to date. (Although the years of troubled production it went through definitely didn't help)

How dare you put Merida on this list? In my opinion she’s one of the best princesses! Flawed? Yes; but a flawed female protagonist is better and more relatable than a perfect mary sue!
I also think being relatable is part of why Merida is such a controversial character, but mainly in the sense that characters who live in a completely different timeline shouldn't be relatable. Arranged marriages were primarily politically driven, so by refusing her responsibilities as a princess, she's not just risking her neck, but that of her people as well. In this day and age, it would be more of an issue. Compare Merida's issues to Mulan's (the animated version, I haven't seen the live action), the latter has a theme of upholding the family honor, so every decision she makes affects her family as much as it does her. And while Disney wasn't known for its accurate cultural representations when "Mulan" was made, there used to be a time in Ancient China where your family would be punished for your actions. Mulan rebels against the norms of her culture by joining the war, but she also adheres to them because she's protecting her father.
I haven't seen Toy Story 3, is Lotso meant to be a likable villain? I think the type of character you describe can make a very well written villain; in the Harry Potter franchise, Umbrage clearly fits into the same character type you describe, and this makes her a successfully written villain, we all hate her, we're supposed to hate her, and a truly despicable villain like that is compelling in a different way from the type of villain we are meant to enjoy watching.

It absolutely pisses me off on what kind of princess Merida is, the other Disney princesses we’ve seen are kind, loving, and some are even heroic, but Merida is hardly any of those things, she’s the most selfish princess I’ve ever seen, which is so frustrating

But cars 2 is where we see the flaws in his character start to stick out. He’s annoying, he’s stupid, and never really that funny.

No doubt about it, without Mater in this franchise, I'm pretty sure that people would not have found any of the Cars movies entertaining at all. I mean who wasn't laughing at the scene where Mater takes Lightning tractor tipping or when he showed off his skills in backwards driving?
Lotso does not deserve to be on this list. Most of the other characters have legitimate writing issues, but Lotso is a very well written twist on Woody's character arc in the previous movie. An old, tired toy letting the world beat him down into a bitter person when Woody is on the brink of being set aside as Andy goes to college is fantastic for theming and for character dynamics.
And when you look at Lotso and Woody closer, you notice that Woody could've turned into Lotso.

Edit: Lotso’s backstory and the way he projects on the other toys that “your owner doesn’t like you” just because of his past was amazing.

What? How does Mater suck? He's one of the best characters from the Pixar's Cars franchise being a funny, laid-back, and a great automobile sidekick to Lightning McQueen. I still think he's enjoyable in Cars 2, despite him getting majority of the spotlight.

I actually like Flik from A Bug's Life; the character from that film I find more deserving of a spot on this list is his love interest, Princess Atta, who was perfectly okay with letting Flik leave the colony even though she knew very well the expedition might cost him his life. She's the worst.
Re: Brave -- I cut Merida some slack at first, because I was just that happy to see Pixar shine the spotlight on a female character at last, but now I'm fully aware of her flaws. The characters I have NOT changed my mind about are those horrible triplets. I hated them the first time I saw the movie, and I hate them still. HATE.
Plus, she didn't really believe in him getting help. She was more using Flik's idea as an excuse to get rid of him. Plus, when Flik’s lie was revealed, they act like Flik was the only one in the wrong, when Atta lied too.

I do have a soft spot for Mater, and I will admit that while I don't care about most of the characters from "The Good Dinosaur", I do like the T. rex ranchers, especially the father voiced by Sam Elliott.
I do understand your reasoning for putting flick on the list. But I think he would be more of a mix of outsider and misunderstood genius. And I think he has enough funny lines and pleasantness to be likeable.
Just because Lotso looks cuddly and is really the opposite does not mean you have to hate him. To be honest, I thought Lotso’s betrayal and twist just made him even more iconic of a villain and he was great as a villain in the scene where he abandoned the toys when we thought he was redeemed just made him even more great

Making your own decisions as royalty is different than making decisions as an individual. Merida's journey is about changing her fate, but as a princess, her fate is intertwined with that of her entire kingdom. So, when she refuses to get married in such a flippant manner, she's not just risking her neck. She's risking the necks of everyone in her kingdom. Arranged marriages in those days would have primarily about securing political alliances and avoiding unnecessary wars. If you lived in Merida's kingdom and her refusal to get married caused a conflict to your home, would you be of the same opinion.
Ariel's decisions hit differently because her running away doesn't affect her kingdom from a political aspect: Triton is still in power, and he has a multitude of daughters who could inherit the throne in his place. Her decisions are just attempts to satisfy her burning curiosity. There's also no indication of Ariel taking an interest in becoming a queen: The man she developed a crush on just happened to be a prince. If Merida had abdicated her throne instead, maybe the audience would have a different reaction.
Also, as I recall, Ariel is actually the youngest in her family while Merida is the oldest, meaning that Ariel likely has less of a claim to the throne than Merida, which also implies that she doesn't have the same obligations.

There's a fire burning over to the right and the ants are off to the other side. Flik, beaten and bruised, starts talking passionately to Hopper almost shouting. "I see them year after YEAR in the food for themselves and for you. So who's the weak one?!

He’s supposed to be testable for all of his actions. Yes his backstory is deeply sad but it doesn’t change the fact that his selfishness left Big Baby and Chuckles without their owner or the fact that he turned Sunnyside into a prison.
He’s not likable but that doesn’t mean he’s a bad character. He was supposed to be the final boss for this franchise. A tragic tale of what Woody and company are at risk of being.

Disregarding any Pixar films I haven't seen yet (I.E.: Brave and Incredibles 2), I actually don't dislike any of the characters on this list, but I think you were especially too harsh on Lotso; because his cute façade, dark and troubled past, and overall lack of redeeming qualities make him my favorite villain in the Toy Story series, and I think Woody puts it best:

Why She's a Hypocrite of a Villain
1. Much like Miles Axlerod, Bellwether and Prince Hans, she's one of the most boring and humiliating villains ever yet. She is a generic endeavor mobster, who wants superheroes to stay illegal forever, which makes no sense! She lacks anything that's super and has no characteristics other than Evil Endeavor.
. At least Syndrome from the last film had some well-written, excellent and humorous moments to make him a very enjoyable villains to sit through. But, Evelyn had no good traits, making her a really lousy villain.
2. She's considered one of the worst villains that Disney has ever made in 2018. Her true identity with The Screenslaver seems very obvious, due to her vague motives of helping Mrs. Incredible promote superheroes once more. Evelyn gets barely any screen-time as The Screenslaver before the reveal at the end of the film where she strands Mrs. Incredible in a cold area, smacking the goggles on her eyes, gives her brother, Winston, a dirty look, being a hypocrite, and brings him to an elevator, and worst of all, she escapes in a jet! She did all these things to prevent supers from being legal! That's just plain unacceptable!
. Also, the supers got in trouble for no reason in the beginning after they were trying to defeat the Underminer, which is plain unacceptable as well! Not to mention, the detectives in the beginning are a dick to the supers for no reason. Accuse them for the Underminer's escape! That's just plain unfair! Worst of all, the they never apologized to the supers for their actions at the end! And there's no reason why people would these characters, Evelyn and the detectives!
3. DVD False Advertising: Evelyn is nowhere to be pictured on the poster, despite being the main villain.
4. Her motive is flat-out stupid and unclear: Despite, having clear intentions, she was charged for espionage, framing an innocent pizza delivery guy, security breaches, false imprisonment, violating FCC regulations when The Screenslaver hijacked a radio and TV atations, which just makes her pretty cliched!
5. Her plan is even more dumber and unclear than her motive and intentions: Her dead giveaways range from frequently giving weird evil-looking faces and drinking wine often. This seems to be obvious to the supers that Evelyn was an evil endeavor all along. What a gosh-darn witch!
Redeeming Qualities
1. Catherine Keener did a great job voicing her.
2. Her design looks nice to look at.
3. She did get arrested at the end for all her crimes, which is all fine and good.
The worst is about Evelyn from Incredibles 2 is that she didn't even need to make superheros illegal because THEY ALREADY ARE! how the fuck does her plan make any goddamn sense? Supers are already outlawed and yet she goes with Mrs incredible to work with the government to make them legal again? Just to make them illegal AGAIN?! it makes no sense, is there anything I'm missing from this? It's been years since I last saw the film Ive only seen it once

Everyone else here is pretty understandable though, _especially_ the characters from The Good Dinosaur, which, IMO, is Pixar's weakest film to date. (Although the years of troubled production it went through definitely didn't help)

I don't know. Mary-Poppins, Jessica Fletcher, Milo Murphy, and Phineas and Ferb were fun characters.
I also think being relatable is part of why Merida is such a controversial character, but mainly in the sense that characters who live in a completely different timeline shouldn't be relatable. Arranged marriages were primarily politically driven, so by refusing her responsibilities as a princess, she's not just risking her neck, but that of her people as well. In this day and age, it would be more of an issue.
Compare Merida's issues to Mulan's (the animated version, I haven't seen the live action), the latter has a theme of upholding the family honor, so every decision she makes affects her family as much as it does her. And while Disney wasn't known for its accurate cultural representations when "Mulan" was made, there used to be a time in Ancient China where your family would be punished for your actions. Mulan rebels against the norms of her culture by joining the war, but she also adheres to them because she's protecting her father.

I haven't seen Toy Story 3, is Lotso meant to be a likable villain? I think the type of character you describe can make a very well written villain; in the Harry Potter franchise, Umbrage clearly fits into the same character type you describe, and this makes her a successfully written villain, we all hate her, we're supposed to hate her, and a truly despicable villain like that is compelling in a different way from the type of villain we are meant to enjoy watching.
