  • G-Corps is back. Their CEO, on probation from their defeat by C-Sec in the Let's Play must prove himself back in the shipping lanes against local independent contractors prior to being allowed back into the corporate wars. A vital specimen must be recovered and enemy agents brought back with intelligence for the board of directors to welcome them back into their good graces.

    - I am not 100% sure but concerning the duds but I think it is: reroll yes, modify no
    - I looked up the rules for independent contractors, those who jump in because of the jump points use the round number instead of the mass for determining the number of ic ships jumping in.
    - gunships have silhouette 4, corvettes have 5, I think you just slipped one line down.

      Nuts to BTech, where's the Gamma Wolves setting space combat game? Lunarian scavenger blockade runners, Martian colonial gene-harvesters ("We don't want your women, just some ova"), Belter rock-bombers who want to finish off the arcologies for good, O'Neil Colony survivors, all brawling over Earth's orbital space while tangling with Tiamat nano-clouds and ghost ships. There's some potential there, especially if you go all Gundam with it and tie the games together.

  • @cjanquart
    @cjanquart 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The random contractors really seemed unbalanced, of course you rolled bad but it appears the table will generally see that you're usually outclassed. Reminds me of one of the enemy Mech generation tables for Battletech (mercenary expansion IIRC) where the tables were created in such a way that we'd always be out-tonned (but nice if we managed to get any salvage).

    • @cjanquart
      @cjanquart 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So even if you didn't set up those extra jump points and deployed bigger ships, the way the random contractor generator table is set up you'll still get out-massed/classed. Bring a frigate and they'll just show up with something bigger.

    • @crikeymiles
      @crikeymiles 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      You aren’t wrong. From a design standpoint, the random contractor start out really unbalanced (in the players favour) because they don’t have an intelligent human piloting them.
      So the logic of having them out mass you if that they’ll never outthink you, so the only hope they have is to brute force their way to victory. And they do need to have a chance of victory, else the solo mode is too easy.
      It’s still quite sensitive to the spawn roll, so maybe there’s something that would work better than that roll. I’m very open to suggestions!

    • @GuerrillaMiniatureGames
      @GuerrillaMiniatureGames  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      My first though was turn 1 the Spawn roll is D2... turn 2 it’s D3 and turn 3 it’s D6... with the same modifiers. spoiler I’m going to try that next video ♥️

    • @ryankeyte9751
      @ryankeyte9751 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@richmcgee434 currently there is no option for nothing to turn up, which means every time you bring something in, the ai will, fair enough. But on top of that each gate brings in something every turn. Not got my book yet, but from a casual observation seems potentially brutal.

    • @crikeymiles
      @crikeymiles 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@ryankeyte9751 That’s a fair observation. An early iteration had nothing appearing on one of the results, and that did introduce a nice breath in the pace, but the issue was when noooothing deployed (because you happened to roll a row of ones and twos) and the game was crazy easy.
      There’s definitely a sweet point I just haven’t quite found yet. Possibly the jump point spawns D6 *minus* the turn number, and 0 or below spawns nothing.
      Having said that, in this game, all those extra frigates were just the game posturing, as Ash (rightly) fled with the spies, so they were only a theoretical threat, not an actual threat.

    • @ryankeyte9751
      @ryankeyte9751 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@crikeymiles thanks for the response. I don't have my book yet, due any day and only experience I have is from watching Ash's playthroughs, but a bit of brain storming:
      1. Maybe use a second card deck or multiple dice say 2d6 to smooth the curve a bit.
      2. Maybe replace the each turn roll with an event deck, could then have some results bringing more fleets in, while others have a different effect,
      3. Or maybe the two rolls are slightly different, so the ones in response to you deploying are more likely to produce something but the each turn ones are less likely.
      Yes some could be seen as the game posturing, but I assume that would depend on the contract and if you need to deal with a frigate that would require you to bring on something big, but then bringing something big on may bring on another 😃
      Guessing the solo rules will get play tested a lot right now. Thanks for another great game and thanks for doing solo rules for during the pandemic.

    Well, interesting, but now I'm definitely skipping on this. The fact that the solo rules aren't in the core book but are already up as a free pdf makes me think that this will be another Gaslands, where a "Refueled" version comes out within a year or two and I wind up regretting buying in early instead of waiting to get everything compiled in print.
    If folks are interested in other solo campaign-play starship games, I'd recommend taking a look at Two Hour Wargames' 5150 Star Navy and 5150 Fighter Pilot games. They support anything from a single fighter or starship up to squadrons or full fleets of 40-ish vessels, are built to play solo, co-op, or versus from the ground up, and are a bit more traditionally combat-focused than ABS seems to be. Bit abstract as well, but versatile - and once you get used to the game engine they use, you can learn any of the 2HW stuff pretty easily - and they cover everything from light roleplay to scifi ground comabt to fantasy and even some historical periods.

    • @BetaRayBill32

I'm not surprised by what the game is, it's just not to my taste in its final form. I am a little disappointed the solo rules weren't in the core book, though. Seems like the kind of thing you'd prioritize working on during the shutdown (where demand for solo rules boomed) but I'm sure that Hutchinson's life was at least as disrupted as everyone else's.
