    UPDATE (repost, edit is not working):
    - Yesterday, I took on six new pilots, that founds us thanks to OA's video: th-cam.com/video/eURm2WhlBu8/w-d-xo.html
    - A key bit of context is that you are pilot in the military not a civilian trader. Think X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter but with a persistent universe and logistics. I have little tolerance for grind and limited gaming time so while the world will be dangerous it will not waste your time or demand too much of it.
    Thanks for the video OA! I've been busy all day welcoming many fellow space game fans into our community. I am not surprised that your ship and pilot remaining in the universe when you logoff has raised a few eyebrows. It probably wouldn't work in most existing space sims, but Hunternet is being built from the ground up to support this mechanic.
    Persisting all resources in the universe at all times will allow for a richer world simulation with more room for interesting strategies and logistics. You'll have quite a few ways to balance your risk/reward before logging off after a session and getting destroyed is less of an issue when you are backed by one of the two human factions.
    This mechanic has already led to some fun and interesting asynchronous gameplay as members of our community try to find the perfect place to shut down their ships or scout the asteroid fields with the help of headlights or night vision to try and find unsuspecting prey.
    In the future, you'll be able to stow your starfighter inside a well-defended carrier or space station to minimize risk. I also will experiment with different ways a smart player could hide their ship and even supply caches deep inside enemy territory. It will be scary and it will take some skill and the willingness to take risks but it should lead to some great stories.
    Thanks again to OA for covering Hunternet, it's done a lot to bring us onto the radar of many space fans some of which I think will find Hunternet to be their cup of tea.
    Cheers!

      @@shogun2215 And I like that there are games focused on different aspects. I'm more of a PvE player myself, but a game focused mostly on PvP gives you different expectations. It's not "ganking" anymore, if you launch this game, you know it's gonna be dangerous and you'll probably need to fight or flight. If you launch Elite, you can just use solo mode and you can relax. You can also play other games with single player or private servers, like Empyrion, Space Engineers, etc. This game sounds fun as a PvP focused game, where you need to find allies to survive, and I'm sure people will make factions dedicated to protecting more PvE focused players. But it will require more cooperation - you want to haul something or mine resources, you'll need to team up with people who'll be able to protect you during the journey. There's not much incentive for that in Elite and I think it may be interesting to see how the universe in the game evolves. I won't buy it now, but I'll keep an eye on the development, because we may get it with my friends and try to build some carrier together if some relatively safe places will exist. I'd expect some big fraction to emerge and to have systems deeper in their territory to be pretty safe to play PvE before you start challenging yourself to travel further into less safe territories.

    No secure zones bothers me a bit. I can't be online all the time, maybe 2-3 times a week meaning that in between I'm surely to lose something. EVE had a high sec system for this reason, which came with its on caveats (gate/station campers and such) but you always had a fallback place to safely start up from. I'd imagine there will be places like far inside friendly faction space where you can be relatively safe but for example a faction leader or a "streamer and followers" could cook up a deep raid with throwaway ships to go out hunting as they do in EVE in nulsec systems often.

      Then the element of immersiveness is lost :-). And the element of immersiveness, when the player is afraid of losing their equipment, afraid of dying, is much more important, and it works in many games. This means that players will be forced to form clans for protection, or join factions to secure NPC support so they can protect your equipment while you're offline. But for example, in Elite, the death of a player is so painless that all value is lost.

    I think the issue with being purely PVP-centric is you simply can't sustain the player population needed to make the moment-to-moment exciting. There's a lot of excellent sci-fi PVP games that have come and gone because at the end of the day, their playerbases are TINNNNNY.
    Seems interesting, but I don't personally see what differentiates it from Angels Fall First, EVE Valkyrie, Infinity Battlescape...Or the space-combat component of entrenched fanbases like Star Citizen and Elite.

    The persistence thing is similar to what EVE Online has done since forever, possibly since its creation. Granted your ship doesn't just sit in space, as long as you wait for your log off timer. By waiting for the timer to reach 0 it will enter a kind of warp; and for continuity when you relog it will reappear in the same spot while exiting this warp.
    But this log off timer can be affected. For example, if you have an aggression timer you would have to wait longer.
    Now if you were to just Alt + F4 then the timer begin the moment the session is closed essentially leaving you sitting in space until that reaches 0. Unless you were caught in the meantime that is. Also all active ship modules are turned off when the session is closed. So, for example, even if you were to use a speed mod to make the ship hard to catch, the mod would be turned off as soon as the session closes. Leaving you just sitting in space again.

    • @darkmadrap
      @darkmadrap ปีที่แล้ว

      thats not how it works , at least not today anymore . maybe back in early days but not when i played with a competent friend in 2017 and such . back then , yes your ship would sit in space with a timer before warping out but the truth is that once it reached its destination it just disappear . i know that because i once tested with said friend being both in a calm system , i logged off then he looked which direction my ship auto-warped , then d-scaned , nothing . ask him to get his combat probes out and look for the direction i went to , did just that with a deployment of his combat probes scanning the region my ship could have warped to , found nothing . lastly i told him , do a global system scan with your combat probes , scanned , lots of bs old pos nothing about my big orca named in a specific way , heck nothing about an orca at all . redid the test but faster . i was showing on his combat probes scan for like 15-30 sec while my ship was possibly warping , then re scanned mere moments later and again , vanished nothing . so maybe they have updated that since i last played 6 years ago , but i can assure you last time i played back then it was not the case .

      Can asteroids be more complex than simply a stretched surface? ie. can they be hollow, with holes in the side, and thus internal structure? Being able to hide one's ship inside an asteroid would be kinda cool.
      I can understand why some may not like the persistence idea, but then this is so new that I don't know how to judge the implications. Perhaps too easy to dismiss if one hasn't considered or experienced what new forms of gameplay such a system will make possible. Either way, it's demonstrating what I predicted would eventualy occur, existing bloated games like ED would be overtaken by newcomers who do it better, or different, or both. I like the fact that someone is trying this, ie. what does genuine persistence really mean? Very interesting.
      I hope the project is a success, the space game market needs competition, otherwise there will never be a reason for the established big boys with all the money to do any better, especially Fdev. I do get the impression that exploration is not something this game will deal with much, so alas its basic MO doesn't appeal to my tastes, but it clearly has merit and potential for those who do like pew pew in space with greater depth and possibility than Fdev ever bothered to provide.

While it's true that there will always be one and only one instance of each system, there is a limit to how many people can normally be in each system. The use clever "hidden" tricks to hide it for most systems via jump gate/docking/undocking delays and transitions because they know a lot traffic is transitory with people just traveling through a system or heading to a station. You need to contact CCP (there's a form on their support page) if you want more than X users in a system at a time (say for a massive alliance battle) so they can make sure the system can handle it by moving the instance to a beefy server by itself. And even then, once they hit too many users in a localized area they'll slow down the server update tick clock to give it more time to process events. Don't get me wrong, their implementation is impressive as hell, but it does have limitations.

      I think the final epiphany for me was one day I was standing next to another warrior of the same race/level as me in WOW and he had three times as much health as I had because of his gear. And the only way to get the gear, was to volunteer to be smashed by the people who had the gear. Then about the time you had the gear, the new gear was out and the process would start all over again.

    • @IRMentat
      @IRMentat ปีที่แล้ว

      @@V-RADIOI think global agenda was the “final straw” for me. Fun enough instanced based PvE at first but dear gods the PvP was horribly broken. Rarity and Level based skill/ability upgrades, rarity and level based gear. So you could have some no lifer in an open PvP match pulsing their jet pack from the ceiling of an arena never needing to land while using a hitscan machine gun and having more hp, damage, accuracy, flight speed, map knowledge and lower cool-downs than anyone else in the match.
      This after years of playing OG quake/UT/battlefield games, counterstrike/DoD, planetside for years. Then even many of those titles sequels introduced game balance breaking upgrade/progression systems turning every round into an uphil slog versus people in objectively superior gear (CS remained mostly mercifully devoid of this but I remember the riot shield, I USED that damned riot shield)

    Looks interesting, I'm glad to hear that it isn't purely PVP. PVP reliance can make for a short lifespan and any game 100% focused on it will die when player counts dwindle. This is my big concern with another similar, but smaller-scale combat space sim developed by Impeller Studios, named "In the Black." Now of course there are successes in the MP arena like EVE Online... but aside from that, there are precious few multi-player focused space sims that are still alive and well today.

      EVE Online isn't solely PVP though, it has a large amount of the playerbase that never interact with other players; all they do is sit in the NPC corp they started with in the game(so they can't be wardecced); they mine, run missions, salvage wrecks and do PVE content.
      Sure, 'market pvp' exists; but that isn't really costing you to lose anything so long as you're just selling and not trying to mess with things too much.
      EVE Online atleast had a niche and a place for everyone to choose their level of depth. Would still be a damn fine game that my alliance and I would be playing today had they not gone pay to win by selling skillpoints/character progression.

If you could afford more accounts in the past, then that was a massive advantage over those who couldn't. How many alts just sit around only to scan the cargo of outbound ships or other dumb shit like that?
      The thing that killed eve was the rampant botting, the endless chat scams, the heavily pro-griefing systems and mechanics (for all that your post would make it seem like the game had a niche for non-pvp players, the odds were still stacked against those players even in hi-sec when it came to player griefing), their anti-new player stances, and the absolutely unbelievably toxic community. I hardly ever use this annoying buzzword but holy crap does it ever apply to the eve community.

    • @ShevaiAsan
      @ShevaiAsan ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WELLbethere Except they still had to train their skills for each account seperately.
      When my alliance and I quit, it was because you could literally start an account and BUY skill point injectors. Your Day 1 toon could go from flying frigates, to using fully kitted out capitals if you paid enough.
      Multi-boxing atleast took effort and time; you had to still 'put the time in' to train those characters to do what you wanted to use them for.
      Night and day difference between taking 6-8 months to get the extra account(s) where you wanted them(and continue training to get them), as opposed to being a day one player and spending $500 to pay your way to what everyone else had to spend real time doing.
      If anything, the skill injection/buying skillpoints made the multiboxing all the worse; but the buying of skillpoints meant you couldn't look at someone's character's 'birthday' and make a determination of their skill point capability; and you certainly never expected to see a day 1 toon sitting on a gate with a battleship lighting off smartbombs to gank smaller ships as they warped in; but it was a common thing happening.

    There is an interesting reason why the flight model is so great. When Star Citizen released its 3.0 update years ago, it completely changed the flight model of the game. This alienated the huge dogfighting community, and a lot of them found Hunternet Starfighter as a replacement. A lot of the top SC dogfighters (from before 3.0 atleast) spent years working with developer FernandoZ to fine tune the flight model in HS.

Even though if you are PVE Focussed it brings so much to a game like hide and seek or unpredictable moments etc. People just need to get into it. The important thing is that „loosing“ does not hurt too much but still needs to have some scalable impact like in these games.

    Graphics and gameplay look almost identical to the first playable iteration of of SC’s PU. It almost looks like someone made a game based on those early builds, back when there was only one dock. Makes me want to buy another GTX 980 and relive those days haha. Traveling is even every similar to how it was then and I preferred it that way. The cockpit and background would just stretch and slingshot you a thousand light seconds or so to your objective. Now when I go to Microtech or some crap I have to go grab a beer, start dinner and wash dishes lol

    Who doesn't love a wave of that hand magic, "we'll have one instance with not lag". How? Magic.
