Being a 1984 victim myself (my grandfather and uncle were killed) I have seen my father fighting for justice from such a long time. Recently the govt even declared to give the jobs to the victims and that too in the MTS category and ofc the underprivileged ones will take it because they don’t have any other option.
I’m super proud of these ladies and whatever they are doing for our community 🙏 I hope they know that they are inspiring young Kaurs like us 🩷

Dispite such pain all of them have been through this community has been extremely generous to the society always coming first for helping, feeding and holding the society.
    How heartbreaking to hear this.

      No generalizing please.
Aren't there generous people amongst other communities who have experienced atrocities?
      The untouchables?
The parsis who escaped the persecutions in Iran?
There's both good and bad in every community.
The question and the real test is the reaction of the community when a member of that community commits a crime.
The khalistanis too belong to the sikh community, don't they?

    • @khyatimahra
      @khyatimahra 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

@ You’re absolutely right that kindness and generosity are found across all communities, and my comment wasn’t meant to overlook that. I was simply acknowledging the resilience and compassion the Sikh community has shown, especially during tough times. Regarding Khalistan, it’s important to remember that extremist views exist in every group, but they don’t define the entire community. I’m just seeking to focus on the positive aspects here, as I believe that focusing on compassion and unity can help us move forward. I hope justice prevails for all who have suffered, regardless of community.

Watching The Kaurs of 1984 brings us face to face with the enduring trauma of the Sikh community, especially its women, who bear the scars of unimaginable violence and a cruelly unfulfilled quest for justice. Forty years on, the state of these widows, families, and those who continue to speak up serves as a painful reminder of a tragedy ignored by justice. Even after decades, justice remains a promise largely broken, and closure is an elusive dream.
Thanks to the few resilient voices in the legal field, media, and documentarians like Sanam Sutirath Wazir, this struggle for justice hasn’t been erased. This documentary sheds light on the sacrifices these women made and the strength they show daily, often facing pressure and threats, but refusing to forget. Their resilience is a beacon, reminding us that true closure only comes when the voices of the silenced are truly heard and honored.

So basically whosoever did it was never a human. Who can we blame for such ruthless killings and the coverup afterwards?
The British change their rules if even a smaller incident of such nature occurs there. How can we Indians and Pakistanis not do that. This injustice would always remain a fault line for India Those who obstructed justice did not do any favour to their country shame

I remember my chote mama narrating that the night Indira ji was assassinated, my bare mama was travelling. He got in the taxi, by that time violence has already erupted. The taxi driver was a Sikh, so mama quickly sat beside him gave him his topi and started calling hi chacha. The mob came by the taxi, and mama quickly showed his ID as he was in government service. He said that the man was his cha-cha, and asked the driver to drive home. The driver was given food, water, and shelter that night. Then we also needed to inform his family that he was safe, so my cousin searched for phone on his neighborhood, and called the no. The driver has given. Those days, every house did not had phones. We then informed the family of the drivers wellbeing and also asked for his family's well being. Their tension eased. , and mama told us that there were many people in our city who stood by the Sikhs, and the level of violence was much lesser in our city compared to other cities of our country.

Just because they were Hindu. they got spared. But why it was so much discrimination against Sikh people? All Sikh/Punjab people just wanted was Anandpur resolution, Just Punjab state right. Where I lived 22 years ago, there was a person who used to do property dealing. He was the one who arranged the rented house for us since we were the newcomers in the area. By his voice I knew that he was a sardar but he had no facial hair, neither he wore his turban. He frequently used to have conversations with may father in the evenings. Few years later I came to know his story. He used to be a rich sardar who lived in Punjab who fled during the 84 riots. He left all his wealth behind, somehow managed to trim all his hair while on the run and lived silently in the new neighborhood. He somehow managed to educate his 3 children. His daughter also got married and lived a good life. After few years his both sons came to him and started demanding their share in the leftover property of his. His sons even threatened to kill him so he called police one day. Sons became silent for sometime but again started harassing him. He eventually sold his house and whatever he had, distributed it among his both sons and in the next week he left with his wife. Don't know where he vanished.

Injustice shall never be promoted. When we make a system and law. it has to be followed. The misery is that even the government official who are supposed to protect these laws are themselves involved in such heinous acts. And these type of incidents will never stop until there is change in the mindset of the society to leave in peace and harmony. This education shall be started at the base level, In schools, in homes etc.
