He sure is! He is my fellow North Carolina! He’s 81 years old. I don’t know how longer he’s going to longer gone more. His grandfather lived nearly 100. If genetics rule, Ronnie might be closer to 100 but only time will time.

You are one of the best singers I have listened to Ronnie wherever you are I hope you know how much pleasure you brought to people and what a lovely man people who knew you say you were xxx
Ronnie's vocal range was always greater than nearly any male vocalist in country music. That glorious high note at the end would be a struggle for any Nashville star climbing the charts today. So grateful for this old footage of the master.
This song came on as my dad lay dying in hospice care, I cried my eyes out. He loved Ronnie Milsap.... My grandfather was neighbors with some Milsaps in the Smokey Mountains of NC.
Very few can touch this man talent. And Lord knows many have tried Including myself. But these people in music today don't pick poor boys to play music. 53 now.. They overlooked my talent on the tube since 2005. So I took many down. No more covers. Waste of time. lol
Ronnie Milsap I love all of your songs but ( Legend in my time) I would be a Legend for all the pain I went through over a man who cheated. But you are a Legend in you Time,! Thank you for all your music.

This three minute video is a great example of the pure talent of Milsap. The vocals were dead on, eery steel guitar in the background. Notice something amazing, at 2:50 he takes one breath and doesn't take another for almost 20 seconds. In that time he holds an end note without any sign of crack or waver for 15 seconds. It was a perfect moment captured live in front of a very lucky studio audience. Much respect Ronnie, you make it seem effortless.
+Matthew Coleman Good point! I've watched this video 100 times and never noticed that. This really is an incredible live performance...maybe even better than the studio version with some of the vocal flourishes he throws in. I saw him live for the 6th time just today and he did this song in its entirety...what a treat.

Steel being played reminds me of my Uncle Jr. who was a very good steel player. He was voted second best steel player in Texas in the 70's he also played with the Kendall's briefly.

I saw him open for Dolly once long ago and was ready to leave when she came on... Ronnie far overshadowed her. I play this all the time at open mic night and women love it. It's a wonderful song.
Ronnie is truly one of the greatest singers we have been blessed to hear and witness. I have to agree with the theme of some the comments posted. The singers now are not this natural when it comes to the gift of singing. When Ronnie opens his mouth to sing, it just comes out incredible! That is a God given gift. Performers now feel the need to jump around and crank up music so loud that you can't hear the vocals anyway! I love the fact that Ronnie could just sit down at the piano, play, and sing

A Don Gibson hit that no one ever sang this well... Ronnie was unique and gifted. The pedal steel reminds me of my cousin Bryan Adams... one of the very best real country players.
Written and first recorded by a man who should've been a legend in his time, JACK GREEN, who once had been Ernest Tubb's bass player. Later Jack teamed with Jeannie Sealy to put out some Country hits. RICKY VAN SHELTON also scored a hit on this. Simply an amazing song. In the hands of these masters of song, it couldn't fail.
He is a “legend in his time”
Yeah, agree my grandparents like him and my dad

Matthew Coleman if you think that's something, listen to the note he holds for about 30 seconds on the track "Kaw-liga" from his first live album.

Song: (I’d be) a legend in my time
Lyrics
If heartaches brought same
In loves crazy game
I’d be a legend in my time
If they gave gold statuettes
For tears and regrets
I’d be a legend in my time
But they don’t give awards and there’s no praise or fame
For heart that’s been broken over love that’s in vain
If loneliness met world acclaim
Everyone would know my name
I’d be a legend in my time
(he be a legend in your time)
But they don’t give awards and there’s praise or fame
For heart that’s been broken over love that’s in vain
If loneliness met world acclaim
Everyone would know my name
I’d be a legend in my time
I’d be a legend
In
