    Alex Honnold finds himself high up in the Swiss Alps, though the climber is not new to extreme heights. What are your thoughts on his adventure with Bear Grylls?

    • @johnboling
      @johnboling 4 ปีที่แล้ว +75

      So many things wrong with this. No third hand on rappels, not a simul-rappel as seen by the Figure 8 knots and wide angles on the anchor point. I mean, I guess it looks cool, but a bit over hyped and slightly unsafe. Not that Alex Honnold cares about safety...

      @@AMM1998 simul-rap is honestly a pretty common technique for elite climbers. Unfortunately, it's also pretty dangerous, as the recent death of Brad Gobright demonstrates. It's easy to rap off the end of the rope, and sadly, a lot of elite, every-day type climbers sort of lose the habit of tying safety knots.

    At 3:07 you can see the proper rope protection on all 3 steel cables.
    At 3:35, just as Bear Grylls says "That's why I put the rope protection on", it's a wide shot again, where you can see the proper rope protectors.
    At 3:36, on the next shot it's only the sock again.
