Usama Sohail Actually Devils Never Cry fits DMC series very well. Considering that the original DMC games were very anime-ish (even that DMC it's a lot western for a japanese game, even before the DmC reboot exists) it fit's perfectly from what you would expect from a Devil May Cry soundtrack. So, yes, this theme is the difinitive theme for Devil May Cry.
I much prefer the end of the song over that drowning death metal crap.
Nero's 1st battle theme is a lot better though, follows the vein of Devils never Cry.

I love this song so much. Been a fan of it for fourteen years now (And the whole DMC series for 17). I remember when I met the voice actor for Dante in this game, I went home and listened to the song and the soft lyrics @ 4:18 "Tears inside me calm me down" actually got to me and made me shed a few tears. You know the kind of tears someone would shed after having a dream come true? It was just like that. I couldn't believe it. I met my idol and inspiration, in the fucking flesh. Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening is an amazing game, and to meet the man (Reuben Langdon) behind the legend (Dante) was just an absolute honor and something I'll never *_ever_* forget.

Afterwards, it really grew on me, and became way better, to a point where I don't need to listen to Devils Never Cry to clean my ears.
I tend to switch Dante's theme between Devils Never Cry and Subhuman when I play DMC V now.
The sad part is, the instrumental for that new song is pretty damn good but it's ruined by those stupid vocals

This song is about Dante. How he uses killing demons and being a "joker" his coping mechanism for what happened to him, his brother and his mother.
If you pay attention, this song sounds wacky and edgy on surface but when you get the meaning of the lyrics mixed with the tone of the singer, you can realize the music emphatising Dante's "sad clown" psychosis.

Same... Dmc 2 was the first I played properly (I played dmc 1 when I was 11 so I really don't see that counting tbh) and I loved it!!! Buuuuuuuuut.... Then dmc 4 came along and just blew it out of the water... Then the remake came along and that made both games inferior.... That being... Gameplay wise... Y'know the typical dmc fan response... "Didn't like Dante" Story was a bit "eeeeeeeeeh" but then again story isn't really important in dmc.. AAAAAAAAAANYWAYS!!! Dmc 2... It gets pooped on by dmc 1 3 4 and the remake... At least, to me.. I don't want to sound like "UR WRONGG STAHP SYIN THINGZ DAT I DUNT FINKKKK!!!!" It was repetitive, boring and so on so forth once you've already beaten it.. Don't even get me started on that helicopter fight or that floating skulls boss.

It's my first too, then I played the 1st. The reason people don't like is because of the repetition,the mood (quiet, moody dante), and the choices: thin sword, broad sword, short sword, long sword, does it matter?
After recently playing DMC HD collection, DMC 4 and already having played DmC. I can finally understand *why* people didn't like the new Dante. He was vastly different from the old one. The wise-cracking, sarcastic, interactive, loud-mouthed badass was not present. But replaced by a more tragically inclined one that was always at odds with improper authorities (imagine always being chased by demons in limbo, constantly fighting, not being able to live the way you want because of this, and having your parents killed or tortured for eternity... wouldn't you be mad?) The new one decided to take a stand against the demons and fight back, while also getting the somewhat tragic gratification having sex and killing the demons. He did realize that the humans' suffering because of the demons constantly terrorizing them was more important than his wants or needs due to him seeing all the awful experiences (much like the old one.) He finally did the right thing after all the fighting; giving humans there freedom (too bad his awful dialog completely neutered and misrepresented this great character development.)
Now let's talk about both Vergils. The old Vergil blamed himself for not being able to protect his mom from the demons that attacked her. So he made the philosophy as a kid that "without power you can't protect anything, let alone yourself." He wants power to compensate for his inability to protect his mom and will do *anything* to obtain more... even at the cost of others (pretty sad too.) The new Vergil is much more cunning and calculating, and would not hesitate to use other people to get his 'fix' of control. He wants to control or rule over others to compensate for his lack of control he wish he had in his life as a kid. He wants power over others to compensate for his lack of it at a early age (same sense as the old Vergil, just different ways of obtaining it.) The game even hinted at this evil (like when he killed Mundus' child to *control* the outcome, which I felt was an unnecessary death and he instantly crossed the line there.) He wanted control so bad that when he died and went to hell (in Vergil's Downfall) he got deluded into thinking that it was everyone else's fault but his despite his controlling tendencies with that superiority complex over humans. He even got the control he wanted at the end by becoming the new demon king after "correcting" his heart, but it *still* wasn't enough. Controlling a near *endless* supply of demons was *not* enough (it's really pitiful.) I also love how Ninja Theory stayed faithful to the old Vergil by having the new Vergil have similar attack animations.
In both cases Dante and Vergil *are* opposites. Vergil believed in power and/or control at the expense of others. At first, Dante was like this in a unique sense. He treated things as one big game for a chance of self gratification, only until he matured and realized how wrong it was. He then believed in liberation and freedom... at his expense. That's why he said in DMC 2 "my job is hunting devils."
Now let's talk about level designs. The designs in levels for DMC 1-3 were kind of bland and repetitive for the most parts. (with the Living Cave, Mundus' room, an going to the demon world in DMC 3 being some of the most visually different level for the most part. DMC 4 had some nice color variety for the majoring of the game, but I wish it had more places to travel instead of the backtracking crap after playing with Nero (who, imo was *BORING*.) DmC on the other hand has some of the most detailed environments in any game I've ever played. Blue, yellow, purple, orange, red, and a plethora of other colors made the game very visually satisfying. Now let's talk about the gameplay. Aside from the first two DMC's having a somewhat repetitive combat system, it was responsive and had an ok style system and ranking (DMC is also difficult... in a fair way that alleviates that issue.) DMC 2 was where the ranking system hit the pinnacle. The game *is easy to complete*, but in a perfectionists eyes, it was difficult. I *still* haven't beat the game on DMD without using items or Chaos Heart (which is what makes the game even less challenging.) But the ranking system gave the game its own intriguing impression of 'difficult'. But in DMC 3 is where the gold got dug up. Responsive controls with weapons that have different movesets, a 'try hard' ranking system a challenging difficulty for those hardcore gamers. DMC 4 had *the* best combat system of the original 4, sure you had to press a ton of buttons (with Dante) or hold two buttons (with Nero). But it was fulfilling pulling off those stylish combos. DmC had by far, the most fluid combat system. One thing went into another and allowed players so much freedom and diversity. Now let's talk about the music. DMC 1 had some pretty badass music (Nelo Angelo, Lock And Load, Nightmare for example.) DMC 2 had some *underrated* music and the fight vs The Despair Embodied was a hidden gem. DMC 3 Was filled with good music. Vergil battle 1, and 3. Now you've really crossed the line, and other goodies. DMC 4 had a good track too. Vs The savior, a remix of Lock And Load, The time has come, and each unique boss theme. DmC had great music too. The dubstep and rock really fit in with this new, more updated version of 'hell.' Now let's talk about the bosses. DMC's bosses were hard and memorable. DMC 2's bosses were... actually kind or boring to fight. The only bosses I found challenging were Bolverk, The Despair Embodied (quite a difficulty rise too), and Argosax. DMC 3's bosses were nothing short of challenging badassery. DMC 4's were too repetitive to the point of waste. It hurt the game more than it helped it (except for the Savior fight, Credo, And the last fight.) DmC's had some interesting designs, but are *way* too easy (the fight with Vergil comes to mind.) Most of the bosses were slow, too predictable (Vergil), weren't aggressive enough, or just flat out sucked. At least the music was enjoyable though.
Now let me talk about the *fighting styles*. The old Dante was always the flashy one of the two twins. When he fights it feels like he is just joking around, sandbagging (holding back), or just enjoying his demon-hunting. He made the whole experience a *comic relief*. It always felt like you had to *do* more with the old Dante (as in be more creative and land more hits). The old Vergil was the serious one. Stoic, dry humor (I couldn't make the preparations for the bash), and his moveset *feels* more powerful (to which it is). Players could easily build stylish by mashing the gun button and devil arms button at the same time while switching weapons. His Summoned Sword are ridiculous. Slowing the stylish bar, and being able to fire them *anytime the player wants*. Now the new Dante's *fighting style* seemed more unrefined, and more *forced*. He *had* to fight to survive, but he seemed to get some type of pleasure out of destroying them (by his dialog). The new Vergil has the lack of dialog (faithful to the old Vergil here), and he lacks his *damage per hit ratio*. *HOWEVER* the new Vergil compensates his lower physical force for *hits per second*. His attack rate puts the old Vergil's to shame (which is really saying a lot). His Sword Illusions (and their ability to manipulate enemies or himself) plus his quick sword attacks, and topped with his unique Doppelganger DT that enables him to to do DBZish like barrages on his opponents give him supreme control over the battle field. And what other thing is needed to top this fighting style? Being fluid... *WITH STYLE*. Seriously, it looks like he is just dancing or toying with his opponents in his own condescending way that even the old Vergil can't copy (admit it, he has much more class than the old Vergil). This makes him his own unique character.
Well after this huge amount of elaborating. What I'm trying to say is that I enjoyed all Devil May Cry games. I want a game that combines the fluid combat system and huge environment emphasis of DmC, with the difficulty and dialog of DMC 3. Props to all those who take 3-5 minutes to read all this that took me an hour and a half to type out :)

I mean, really, you play as him for the entire first 3 games and DMC 4, so you really start to like him, then he is COMPLETELY changed into a jackass. I remember back when I was 7 (in 2009). My uncle had given me his PS2 with all the games he had for it (there was PLENTY) and while I was trying them out one after another, I had stumbled on Devil May Cry 3.
And barely a few minutes in, I fell in love with the game. Despite being a huge noob and dying so often against almost every boss (Vergil's second fight was the hardest one), I still kept trying harder and harder until I managed to finally give that final blow on the last fight. And the ending cutscene had given me so many emotions at once, with Vergil deciding to stay in the Demon World.
And now, at age 17, I've played and finished every single DMC game there is (yes... even DMC 2 and the reboot.), and I'm doing crazy fights in DMD in both DMC 4 and DMC 5 almost daily, just striving to get better and better with those damn combos.
Devil May Cry is now my favorite game franchise of all times, and that ever since I first played it, with Devil May Cry 3 on PS2.
