Awesome! Keep fishing brother! I’m planning on doing 100 episodes in that area over the next 12 months - tight lines!

Hi! I moved from AZ to CO two years ago and just got into fishing. I got a basic spinner rod setup and have had difficult time catching something here. Now that it’s warming up, what do you recommend as bait? How do trout behave in warmer water? Thinking of going out to horsetooth this week as I have just tried dowdy lake, Watson lake, and local FoCo ponds.

Welcome! Thanks so much for the question and the message! The trout are still hitting at Horsetooth for sure. Since that’s a higher elevation reservoir, the water is cooler and the trout stay active. Trout are more lethargic in warmer water, but that’s certainly colder up there than somewhere in eastern Colorado! I would also revive them longer and be careful on the release. If you don’t keep them, they need more time to recover in warm water after you land them. You could obviously go powerbait or salmon eggs on the bottom, for lures I would go with a 3 inch gulp minnow on an 1/8 ounce jig head or a spinner like a rooster tail or panther martin. You could do all of that easily from shore and work the rocks and the trees. Good luck!
