    Great, I have a mini coming tomorrow. Bought one for one bedroom lamp. Hoping to set up sunrise wake. Maybe I should have just bought two for each lamp but had a little reservation about
    the mini so bought one in case I had to return it. I'm now confident it will be a keeper and I'll order one or two more:) Thanks, good demo.

      @@ReminisceYT I have 5 LIFX bulbs. There has been times they disconnect. Recently I have 2 that have gone dark and sadly I accidentally threw out all the boxes they came in. I haven't really found the answer to how to getting it back into my network without their codes. Up to that point they have been working fine for the purpose intended. I bought several more after buying the 2 bulbs for the bdrm lamps on timers for gradual wake up. Great color, nice brightness in particular with the larger lumen output bulbs although the mini's can hold their own too. I'm hoping someone knows how to set up connection without the codes. I have been reluctant to "forget this device" just in case somehow I can get these 2 bulbs back on my network without having the set up codes from the packaging they came in that were accidentally thrown out. I've noticed both of those bulbs mysteriously disconnected from iCloud yet the 3 other bulbs have remained connected and intact.
      Of course today is Christmas day so Merry Christmas to those who celebrate, of course I wouldn't expect much feedback with the holidays but maybe one day someone out there knows how to do a fresh set up without the codes:) Happy Holidays!
      And yes, have thought about switching to Hue. But theres got to be a way. Doesn't seem appropriate to have spent the money on 5 LIFX bulbs and have to consider 2 of them "bricked" for their intended use because I don't have the original pkg codes:) lol?

Since you really are a lighting wizard, I was wondering if you knew if this bulb can be setup to sort of look like I'm watching TV in the room. Was up Craig. Big fan of the echo series. Have you noticed any flicking when using Phillips? Shooting standard 24fps 1/50 4K my Phillips lights (light strip/bulbs, hue play) produce weird lines and my lifx doesnt. I searched and searched the internet and nobody is talking about it. You can see it on my recent video to get a better understanding...I’m not sure if I’m tripping or is this a thing.

    Hi, in this video you said you have made a group with echo & HomeKit, would you explain how to do it?

    • @CraigsTechTalk
      @CraigsTechTalk  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Jose, I did make two separate groups. With the echo I paired the echo and the LIFX lights into one group. That way I can walk into the room and just say, Alexa lights on. Without having to speak the name of the group.
      As for HomeKit I created a group that could be triggered by my motion sensor that I have in my office. The motion sensor is actually a Phillips hue sensor. But with HomeKit you can get it to trigger automations of any HomeKit devices.
      I do wish that I could create one group for both devices. But each device does have its own strength. I feel like my HomePod and using Siri is better at just asking for a group. Sometimes I feel like the echo gets a little picky and doesn’t know necessarily what I’m asking for but the echo is better at just saying turn off the lights and it know a what you mean.
      I hope that helps. Thank you for watching. Have a great day.

They both have their good and bad parts. For the most though, I’m probably a bit more on the Google side, it understands me far better and is more useful. Though it needs to add to its Actions a LOT. Doesn’t it feel good not to have to use a hub?

    • @bobriemersma
      @bobriemersma 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree. Also by going with a cheaper product yet (I bought a PAIR of BrizLed bulbs for $33 on Amazon) no hub means you can more inexpensively evaluate whether or not _disco-bondage illumination sources_ are the thing that has been missing from your life. Plus, far less platform lock-in. Who wants to acquire and deal with the care and feeding of a whole passel of hub ecosystems?
      There is the client-count maximum of your WiFi router to consider. This is worth a show of its own. Why router manufacturers don't address this (mostly about RAM and subnet addressing) then tout their high numbers of low-bandwidth IoT devices supported escapes me.

    • @CraigsTechTalk

      - Philips hue bulbs are Bluetooth compatible now
      - you can use them with physical switches, dimmers
      - sync them with a tv, a console, music...
      - when u turn philips hue bulbs off and turn them back on, they light up as they were before you turned them off as opposed to lifx...
      lifx is completely overhyped. The only advantage is its brightness.

    I find with all home automation voice assistants it is important to choose device names carefully for higher recognition accuracy. Some of this is probably due to enunciation challenges, some of it recognition software limitations.
    For example I have an essential oil and water ultrasonic diffuser. Calling the misting function "Aroma Mist" and the integrated color light "Aroma Light" is problematic. I renamed the "mist" subdevice "Aroma Spray" and try to carefully enunciate "Aroma" when referring to both subdevices.
    "Aroma" often results in "What the heck is this 'Room' device of which you speak?" Now I could rename them "Stink Spray" and "Stink Light" for easier and more consistent good results... but I'm not ready to go there.

    • @CraigsTechTalk
      @CraigsTechTalk  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Bob, that is true. Test group was not the best name for this test. It was picky and would work at times and then just not recognize it completely. Yet it would repeat the proper group back. The name is important. For me the shorter the better, just to remember the name. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and checking it out. Have a great day Bob.

    • @bobriemersma

    The ONLY thing that sucks is that these LifX Bulbs can only connect to 2.4ghz. So if you have 5 GHz, don't waste your money like I did. I saw no indication, of ANY kind that it needed a specific bandwidth or whatever to work. Which reaallly sucks because I was digging these bulbs from the numerous videos I saw. • @CraigsTechTalk
      @CraigsTechTalk  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think hubs are great for taking traffic off of Wi-Fi. But for some people hubs are more of a pain because some have to hardwired with Ethernet. I like the stability of the hue bulbs because of the hub. I just install lutron switches that require a hub. They are well reviewed and the hub helps a lot. For simplicity WiFi is easier in my opinion.
      As for syncing with music, I flew right by that. As a professional lighting designer I am disturbed by how bad these music sync features. I never use them after an initial test and never think about them after. Thanks for watching.

      Hello Scotia, I would have to agree with Smart Tech. I do think the LifX is deeper. One thing I noticed on my video is that some of the colors do not look as deep because the LIFX are so bright. At points with brightness of the LIFX the light was too hot for the camera and looked washed out because of the hotspot to the camera. I have been a huge fan of Philip hue. I was surprised that I ended up liking the LIFX more. I do wish I had a better way to test the LIFX and Hue together with color. When using each of the lights own apps, you can fine tune the whites to whatever color you want. But, if you leave it to the Echo or Siri, they don’t match to give the best idea. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and watching Scotia. Have a great day.

      Craig's Tech Talk can you link 2 or more lifx bulbs to be the same colour and work to the same command?

      Hubs are nice if you use all of one type bulb. Also makes nice for updates.
      Also Hub bulbs seem to have better connections too.
