(Airport Tour #22) Here's a tour of Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport, Delta's third-largest hub and the former base of Northwest Airlines. I was very impressed with MSP; a lot of thought went into the airport's interior design, and the airport essentially has its own mall near terminals E, F, and G. Hope you enjoy!
MSP really is one of the nicest airports in the US. Lots of shops and really good food choices. This is a metropolitan area that has a hard tine doing anything badly!
AlDelVex amen
I agree dude, MSP IS my #1 favorite airport to visit. I actually have a friend who works there
AGREED! I remembered a few years ago when i had a 4 hour layover there! Such a fun airport to explore, shop and eat at!
Did you know the movie "Airport" was filmed at MSP in 1970? In the movie it was called Lincoln Int. Airport.
Of all the airports I have flown in the U.S., Minneapolis really stands out to me for its terminal and customer service. I remember connecting here back in August 2013 on a flight to Amsterdam and the restaurant and airline staff were so friendly.
The airport looks like the Mall of America. Haha. :) Love it!!
I took a flight out of MSP to AMS back in March and while watching this video, I remembered that the gate my plane was at was G9, the gate seen at 4:20. I also have a picture of the plane parked at the gate that looks nearly identical to the shot of the plane at 4:20.
The B and A gates are looking great! When connecting in MSP, I strongly recommend booking a long layover and hanging out at the A and B gates because they are never busy, have great views and a good place to get work done
The house that you filmed outside the fence are from the old Fort Snelling that use to be there, now the land is split between the National Cemetary, the old fort on the mississippi, and the National Gaurd Air Wing
this very huge "mansions" are old barracks and buildings from a 1800s fort called Fort Snelling. Those particular buildings were added in the early 20th century and were used as administrative buildings. THey are now being redeveloped.
one of the nicest airports I've been. Really enjoyed my few hours there
It's a gorgeous airport. Certainly not a bad place for a long layover.
Fantastic tour! I love MSP. On your next layover, be sure to visit the Observation Deck on the D Concourse (near D1).
I will be going to Hawaii alone this winter from Minneapolis and I have been going alone since I was 3 or 4
Dude! Love your videos! Can you by any chance leave some of your notes up a bit longer its hard to read? If you get down to Mexico City check out the airport. Its cool!
I agree.. need to keep them up at least 10seconds..or so..
I was based at MSP while working for an airline.....Graduate from the U OF M too! :)
I just love those inflight catalogs, who the heck is gona buy a sofa on a plane lol
I guess if they have things like that in there, someone must be buying them!
Icelandair only flies to KEF during the summer, its a great way if you want to fly into LGW from MSP during the summer time due to the way that they set up the flight times.
Those "mansions" are fort Snelling.
Thanks for the info!
KBurchfiel They were the barracks, and are now being refurbished to house homeless and/or transitional veterans.
KBurchfiel: I’m going there in a week to go to Fort Myers: RSW on a Boeing 757-200
I've been to this airport six times when I take a connecting flight from Bradley international airport in Hartford Connecticut to Minneapolis and then to Spokane Washington. It's a very nice airport.
I haven't been to MSP since 1999 or 2000. We often flew Northwest airlines, when going to visit family in Lafayette, Indiana. Leaving from Ontario, Ca, we would catch a connecting flight at MSP, down to Indianapolis.
i really love MSP airport. so clean so good.
i was a former northwest employee i loved working in this airport great food and lots of space to walk around
Happy to help! My tours aren't always complete but I try to do as much as I can with the time I have. I now have 22 airport tours out, so see if there are any others that will be useful for you. Hope you make it to MSP soon!
Watching the video because I will be visiting the airport soon.
Did you film this during a layover? If so, it must have been a long layover! This is my home airport, and I will be visiting it in the next couple of weeks. I'm so excited to visit it for my 17th time!
good tour; thanks for sharing!
The Delta livery seen here was introduced in 2007, before the NW merger.
super excited to go to msp in April. I haven't been there since 2003 I believe.. I was a child then and don't remember much from that time. Thanks for the video!
How was it?
It was great terminal 2 was easy and smaller than terminal 1 but loved the variety of shopping and food options. staff was friendly and helpful with questions. Even tsa was a breeze, now Tampa airport was very large and had to ask for directions to find the rental car area. MSP tsa let me wear jewelry through the scanners but when I did the same in Tampa they had to do a pat down because of it....
One of the best breakfasts I've ever eaten was at the French Meadow Cafe in this airport...kind of pricey, but definitely worth it!
I was there, its the first Airport that I have been to that was connected to a mall it was pretty cool.:-)
I loved this video! and just saying those mansions are houses from the 18002s...they were there for war bases because ft. snelling army base is right next to msp :)
Next time you are at MSP you should go up to the observation area in Concourse D!
It can be a loooooooooong hike between terminals/gates and I've ALWAYS hated the carpeting in the terminals and pulling a suitcase on them...but I do like the airport overall.
thanks for the upload. I'm flying in from DFW in August for the Metallica show
Thanks for this Magnificent video since I will be traveling there for the first time from Miami to Minneapolis to visit my daughter on 9/2018 for my Bday🎂
Im flying to Minneapolis and I could use some help getting through the airport
this airport doesn't have enough restrooms to service the huge number of flights that come in during the middle of the day. Always has a line for the mens restroom of all things.
Watching this I can almost see airport General Manager "Mel Bakersfeld" (Burt Lancaster) walking out of one of those upper level offices now.
love these videos….Do you have any plans to continue making these airport tour videos?
When I next travel by plane and visit a new airport, I certainly hope to get a video! :-)
I used to live in minneapolis
Ive been to this airport plenty of times and i haven't even seen half of whats featured in this video lol its a nice airport
Cool I've been there
lol 9:10 little girl screaming
Lo)
Hi)
once you enter concourse D you hear a screaming kid lol
I like the airport I will be there in 19 days for my trip to Miami
What no shots from the observation area above the D gates? When I went to BIS a few years ago, my flight left from the massive (lol) D gates area. MSP is one of my favs to travel to.
That's cool, I didn't know there was an observation area there! Maybe next time I'll check it out.
KBurchfiel its up a small staircase on West side of D goingg towards main terminal area iirc. Kind of hidden. Im assuming its still there.

BEST AIRPORT IN THE WORLD!!!!!
Great video. Those buildings mentioned at 7:25 might be former military buildings. We've got a few similar-looking ones around here in Colorado (not at our airport).
Yes. It is Fort Snelling National Historic sight. On the north side of the airport, there is Fort Snelling National Cemetery, and down the hill towards the river on the east side, is more forts with house-like buildings.
Shane Van Hoven
Thanks for all the info! I never would have figured out what those buildings were.
Does KLM still operate here? Do they still exist? That's what I remember from so long ago. A sea of Northwest and KLM planes everywhere. Red/grey and blue.
Of course KLM still exists. They started flying back here in March, after a 16 year pause. They will fly from March to October. They have started flying here. www.startribune(dot)com/klm-will-start-flying-between-msp-and-amsterdam-again/396997581/
great
My brother flew here to LAX to visit me, and flew on Delta out of MSP, but I still miss MSP's hometown airline, Northwest Airlines. As we all know, NWA merged with Delta.
Alas, the airline industry has its way of dissolving historic airlines. Do you notice how Delta's logo is now tilted Northwest? At least they're paying NW homage.
It was mostly Northwest Airlines back in the days until Delta bought them. Also, the airport is less than 5 minutes drive to the MALL OF AMERICA!
The Delta merger was a joke. NWA had soul. Sad loss.
slow down with the info. I keep having to pause the video to read the facts you're including.
I'm going there
the delta concource G has changed Gate G19 was the gate i left from to florida i was scared to get on the plane in 5 years i was last in that concource 2 years ago there where not tablets or charging ststions last time i was in msp was 5 months ago i flew american in concource E
Yes, much of the airport seemed very new, or at least looked new. MSP is very classy -- glad you've had the chance to visit a number of times.
KBurchfiel they did massive renovations to the whole airport in the last 3 years, and those mansions are from the old Fort Snelling compound from way back in the day, now the national cemetery is on the other side
Yep MSP Is connected to the one and ONLY Mall Of America! According by city officials by 2016 the Green Rail will be up and running from the airport and to the MOA and the Mega Mall will be the 4 biggest in the country!
but the lightrail already goes from MSP to the MOA.
who misses us airways :(
I don't see why people love unions so much. You have to pay a fee to work for the and things usually take longer to get done.
I wish Northwest would come back.
DELTA FOR LIFE
0:27 Windoze :O
MSP is not the same without Northwest. Tragic what Delta did and I refuse to fly them.
That pilot sounded like he had a Texas accent XD
this video needs more work. i am going to find a better video to watch that will let me see this airport i am sorry but i can barely enjoy viewing the airport
screaming kid xD
The airport is in bad need of a remodel
Really? I think MSP is one of the newest-looking airports in the US. What would you change?
KBurchfiel MSP is better than many major hub airports. I think they'd be wise to expand or relocate the airport further away from the city, though. They're starting to get more international traffic there though. I know Air France flies there now (at least seasonally). That is a big deal. But it's location is just putrid if you are a resident! Can you imagine having to deal with all that plane traffic all hours of the day? Denver moved their airport way outside the city and expanded it, I think partly to accommodate heavies and increased traffic. MSP just feels small. But that's my opinion. It's a really, REALLY nice airport though.
Eric Pederson I agree with you. This is a super nice airport. Also as far as expanding I agree with you. I used to work here, and while I was there, there were talks that they were looking to build near Farmington, MN which is south of it's current location.
no it isnt
MSP is a lot larger than it looks, or based on what people say. Personally, I think the location of the airport is pretty good. 1) They have a ton of space and a generous-sized parking garage. 2) MSP is about a 10-15 minute drive from Minneapolis-St. Paul: The "Twin Cities", so it's technically not "in the cities". 3) The airport is extremely modern, and is actually quite beautiful. 4) Lastly, I just think MSP is an overall great airport.
