  • This video compares three of the "size 7" turbines found on Volvo FWD turbo cars in the 90's and early 2000's. Since these are commonly used as upgrades for turbocharged Volvo Redblock cars, I compare the pros and cons of each turbine, and measure the outlet flange size. We also have some more bonus content at the end of this video!

    1. 15G conical flange found on '94 - '95 850 Turbos. Orange fuel injectors.
    2. 15G flat flange found on '96 - '97 850 Turbos (in USA, both on 850R and T5). Orange fuel injectors.
    3. 13G flat flange found on '97 GLT 850 and on '98 - mid '99 XC70 and other P80 cars with Low Pressure Turbo (LPT). Red fuel injectors.
    4. 16T flat flange found on '98 - mid '99 S/C/V70 T5 cars. White fuel injectors.
    5. 18T flat flange found on early to mid '99 V70R. Mix of either white (early) or green (later '99) fuel injectors.
    6. 13T angle flange found on mid '99 - '00 P80 cars with LPT. Red fuel injectors.
    7. 16T angle flange found on mid '99 - '00 S/C/V70 T5 cars, as well as on '01 - '06 (or so) P2 T5 cars. Blue fuel injectors.
    8. 19T angle flange found on '00 V70R. Green fuel injectors.

U r talking about 3 different types of TD04HL turbine housings, not turbine wheels. TD04HL turbine wheels r always the same diameter, inducer/exducer 52/45.6mm. HL designates size of the turbine wheel and proper housing. TD04HL-nn designates size (13-20) of the compressor housing and comp.wheel / impeller. Last marking, in this case T, designates the profile of the compressor wheel / impeller blades. T is the most "aggressive" profile. #7 housing (7cm2) has A/R = 0.49.

The angle flange one can be cut off a a V band welded on. Makes it easier to install then. Do one from the T3 range from the early 760 and 740 turbos next!

Unfortunately, I don’t have those turbos on the shelf to compare them! And truthfully, I don’t know much about the T3 range turbos.

Why V-band for the downpipe conn. to turbo?. Why extra costs, unless one can weld the V-band by himself?. Why take a risk of leak of exhaust gasses + possible fire hazard (jetflame / blowpipe), due the poor welding?. 🤔 Cast iron + stainless steel is not a good combo ... imo.
I tack-welded mine 3" full stainless steel exhaust system components with a MIG + stainless wire. 😇 A pro then welded seams gastight with a TIG w root gas. Yup ... cost mee a lot of money, but it was and it is worth every cent. It flows (minimum backpressure) and it sounds awesome w all the typical Volvo burbing ... like B5244T should sound. 🤣
