Amara and Young Hollywood had unsettled issues at the beginning of the season. Young Hollywood critiqued Amara's afro and since then the two of them have been at odds. That part! Plus she's dark-skinned, proud, and afro-centric not eurocentric; all while still proudly Latina. Who's in charge of the girls? Amara is in charge of the girls.

Wait a second...are you telling me that this gorgeous black woman who doesn't wear bleached weaves, who is not afraid to show her beautiful chocolate skin and that at the same time is a proud Latina, is being criticized for not trying to change into something that she is not - as in a blonde Beyonce? Jesus! The world already has a Beyonce, so now it gifted us with an Amara. Let's enjoy her art and soul and stop judging her choice of looks, which by the way, her beauty is out of this world, just look at her face...it's breathtaking people. Damn!

What I didn’t understand was Amara La Negra is attacked for adding extensions to her hair that matches her own hair grade but Veronica has this long straw like stringy bleached blonde ponytail down her back that sort of mimics her hair grade but she calls out Amara for doing the same thing she doing?🤔. Interesting.

As an Afro Latino myself I can relate so much to her struggle. The saddest thing was that other Latinos would see me as the "negrito" because I didn't look like them. So they would make a point of labeling me as different. Yet my African American brothers and sisters would embrace me with open arms and would validate my Spanish background as well as my African heritage.
Just because we now find a label for ourselves doesn't mean that we never existed. Latino culture just swept us under the rug like some kind of taboo. We DO exist!
And like JuJu pointed out, the slave trade not only happened here in North America but ALL throughout the Americas.
This Hollywood fool dude was just being 'ignant' by choice because he has no respect, that's all.

Amara is DROP DEAD GORGEOUS- regardless of her hair style. These folks are out here hating because she’s showing young black girls & black women that they, too, can slay while rocking a fro, braids, etc. They’re trying to shut her down because if she keeps this up, there will be no need for these weaves & expensive sew-ins.

Its not Amara's fault if their lack of education, discovery, and willful laziness, to see there's a plethora of mixed, beautiful nationalities, within their own heritage. The blonde Rupaul looking chick sitting there telling Amara to show the real you, should've kept quiet, bc if they showed the "REAL HER", w/o the make up, and that entrail she calls a pony tail, they may find "Thomas"!. Lol. Latinos are beautiful, and come in a variety of colors, and all hair isn't the same. Too bad the shill of a man he is cant see that. STAY BEAUTIFUL AMARA. THEY WANT WHAT YOU HAVE!

    • @pambisugar8286

Charles Cason Black men compete with women. White men rule this country and the richest countries in the world. Asian men do not have a myriad of forums bashing Asian women for their eyes, full noses or round faces. They do not negatively stigmatize or depreciate the women in their race. The white and Asian men success rate stylistically is better than that of their black counterparts. White women have challenges and make changes to their appearance that black women do not stringently rely on: make up, anti aging creams, tans and hair pieces but their men do not make hate videos about them. Real men do not bully women. In college (Silicon Valley)I began to realize that by the last drop day of every class each black man would drop by the last drop day. But, they would play dominos and blast profane music in the cafeteria with EMPTY backpacks or sports gear bags. Being mean/humiliating women for HAIR! is the concern of black men instead of working on education, home ownership, car ownership, leaving money for children and staying out of jail. Men compete and judge themselves against other men. Men strive for success. Black males strive to be men by prioritizing bashing women. I went to the laundry mat to wash my comforter. A black man was there with a white lady. Suddenly all the guys in the laundry mat had surrounded him telling him that he couldn't hit her. Black men are more likely to kill a partner by domestic violence....but you're concern is hair!!!! I don't believe in ANY male beating a woman. Funny, I was the only other black person there so he looked at ME through the crowd. I guess I was supposed to
... protect him and his notion of manhood =violence in some defensive way. Pathetic! Easy is the lowest hanging fruit. Lazy stupid and cowardly shouldn't even be a damn choice.

But I think, that she didn't feel comfortable in her skin and was jealous ,AND it's often the case with certain pple!i took it very personal first, but as I realised that she feels uncomfortable in her skin,I forgave her for saying those ignorant and rude words to me

Kayyy I find the term "protective styles" pretentious & I'm a black woman who wears my real hair. Just call a wig a wig, african braids african braids, an updo an updo, & the other hair styles as they are. These styles have names that existed before "the natural hair movement." It's not that complicated to explain to non-black people "my hair + humidity = bad hair day (frizzy, puffy, tangled)," "my coily, wooly hair is fragile and high maintenance & I need a break, - 'cause I don't always have time," "I just want to add volume (the white girl script)," & stuff like that. It's not that complicated. Or get a man who can put his money where his mouth is - because no boyfriend/husband can chastize me for wearing wigs if he's not giving me $60-80 every 2-4 weeks for me to go to the salon.

As a Dominican women, i can say that unfortunately, colorism is a big thing in the culture and not long ago, it very much looked down on for women who didn't have fine straight hair to show their natural hair. When u was younger, relaxing your hair at 13 or 14 was practically a rite of passage for girls. Things are getting better and a lot of women are now embracing their natural hair but Dominicans with darker chocolate skin tone still have a hard time in DR.

People need to admit that they don't understand protective styling, and move the conversation forward. Amara is an inspiration to so many dark skin Black women and I can only give her all the accolades for pushing through the bs.

evolutia1 I love wearing wigs. They allow me to constantly change up my look without damaging my real hair. The one stereotype I hate is that women who wear weave and wigs don't have long or a good grade of hair. When people see me not wearing one of my wigs, and finally get to see my natural hair they all react the same way. I've had so many people ask me, "why do you wear wigs and your hair is long, thick, and pretty?"... Its annoying now constantly having to explain myself to clueless individuals.

Ganymedes Cupz Even though l don't wear weaves, but l am here to tell you that it's not everybody wears weave to look different. People wear weaves for different reasons. It's a PROTECTIVE STYLE! Giving their natural hair a break for a while. It's also the same thing with wigs, they can alternate between hairstyles especially when doing certain natural hairstyles and they are not comfortable to come out in the public like that until they are ready to take it down and style their hair so they put on a wig for the time being. Example a Twist Out or a Braid out! ( Natural Hairstyles).

This is so embarrassing for Latinos. Veronica and Young Hollywood are so foolish and honestly the worst of our community. It does blow my mind because as a Puerto Rican I have never heard people around me speak that way about Afro Latinos. My grandmother is one and I had to watch her go through many racist experiences in the states as a result of her complexion. I really think there is such a disconnect in this country with Caribbean Latinos and their roots. When you’re back home on the islands, you can’t fight the history because everyone of all shades is right there in your face. The island is a living breathing physical reminder of the diversity in our blood. However some Latinos in the states not only have to battle maybe their own micro aggressive upbringings, but the racism the US instills in people and subtle mental infiltrations about blackness as well. Anywhere slavery has existed there will be a lingering of racism. In the Caribbean each island has evolved from the time of slavery differently as well. I’m just sad that Amara is Dominican and not Boricua because BET we would have owned her a lot faster and defended her a lot faster just the same. People like Young Hollywood and Veronica make my skin crawl and I will never understand JEALOUSY and ignorance like that. It’s a shame we haven’t seen an Afro Latina like her this mainstream since Celia. It’s really a shame.

    • @shaiska
      @shaiska 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Destiny Rodriguez, I know what you mean, I am also from an Island, called Curacao and there is a huge Dominican community and other latin community there! the only times that I've experienced racism were from light-skinned Latinos coming from Colombia and Venezuela and light skinned Dominicans coming from the Dominican Republic and other Latin countries, outsiders!! NEVER FROM ISLAND BORN DOMINICANS! and sadly 95% of Latinos are like Veronica Vega and young Hollywood! that's why you don't see many afro Latinos like my self or Amara making it big in Latin America! Celia Cruz was the FIRST AND ONLY ONE UP UNTIL NOW THAT MANAGED TO ACHIEVE SUCCESS IN LATIN AMERICA AS AN AFRO-LATINA! now we have Ozuna who is making waves, we also have don Omar, but the ones that managed to achieve success are so few that you can count them on your fingers!

Puerto Rico has a lot of racism towards darker skin. Its not everywhere, but it exists...The DR is really bad because of an association of dark skin and Haitians. Unfortunately, slavery touched all of the America's and created a connection of dark skin to slaves (being worth less than lighter complected people) thats not unique to any one country or culture. Its in African American, Caribbean countries (skin bleaching in Jamaica is a new fad there...though African countries that were colonized by england has been doing the same for years), Colombia, Brazil etc. I think now its finally starting to change because of people like Amara who are part of the pop culture, and not just "woke", embracing their skin.
