My mom did the same thing her mom did but only my mom spoke differently she was way more apologetic. With tears pouring her face anytime we asked her about her absence. I don't think the mom was coming from a place of entitlement, but from a place as when your ready, I'm here, so you don't feel as if I'm forcing anything on you. As the mother stated her and Simone's father/grandfather keep in touch, so I know that as a parent, he is in Simone's ear as well, telling her things about her mother. When both parties are healed, I'm sure a sit down will happen. This is in God's time, not ours.

That's why people really need to start dealing with their traumas head-on instead of coping through drugs. There's a lot of work that our communities need to do. We come from trauma already and just by knowing that we should try to do a bit better. I do agree that addiction is a horrible disease but unfortunately that disease starts with a choice and will only end with a choice. We all need to start doing better at seeking help.

This is a true statement bc an addict is prone to relapse at ANY time. “Triggers” can be ignited by things as simple as smells, colors, songs, and/or behaviors in other people that tend to make paranoid personalities uncomfortable. It’s ignorant and insensitive to make such a comment bc no one will ever be able to understand the daily/lifetime challenged that addicts face to try and stay clean. Absolutely not, Shannan. You abandoned your children and now want to be chosen without any effort. I believe making amends is a huge part of recovery, and she’s clearly not there yet. I do hope she’s able to fully get help and experience sobriety, and can confront her demons head on. Addiction is destructive and creates many casualties (for a lack of better words).
I grew up in foster care since the age of three just like Simone and this story is very triggering. I’m very proud of Simone and I hope this doesn’t affect her how it has me and my sisters🤍

That’s what I get from the interview as well. She didn’t force herself on Simone or ask for money. If she got paid for the interview then great, but at least she didn’t just pop up in her daughters face demanding reconciliation. It is fair to say we don’t know for sure whether it’s a money grab…there’s no way to give an affirmative either way. However, this isn’t the first public interview she’s done. She was doing interviews right after Simone’s first Olympics…and there are the other unknown factors we are not privy to. She may be hurt and in pain, but if she genuinely wanted to do the work to build a relationship with Simone there are other ways to accomplish that without involving paid interviews. Her giving birth to Simone does not make her a mother, and does make her entitled to a relationship with her. The interviews come off as selfish…If Simone wanted reach out to her publicly or privately, she would do so. If she was truly “waiting,” we wouldn’t get these interviews around the Olympics…I’m sure there is a lot about their dynamic she isn’t revealing, and a reason why Simone hasn’t reached out to her. I don't think the mom was coming from a place of entitlement, but from a place as when your ready, I'm here, so you don't feel as if I'm forcing anything on you. As the mother stated her and Simone's father/grandfather keep in touch, so I know that as a parent, he is in Simone's ear as well, telling her things about her mother. When both parties are healed, I'm sure a sit down will happen. This is in God's time, not ours.

That's why people really need to start dealing with their traumas head-on instead of coping through drugs. There's a lot of work that our communities need to do. We come from trauma already and just by knowing that we should try to do a bit better. I do agree that addiction is a horrible disease but unfortunately that disease starts with a choice and will only end with a choice. We all need to start doing better at seeking help.

I got a different vibe. I do not believe she did the interview for a check. This was completely selfless for her not to reach out. If she wanted a check she would have been reached out and tried to play “mommy” with her and would have lied about being clean. I believe she is happy for her and genuinely wants what is best for her and she doesn’t think that having her come back 24yrs later is what’s best. That’s what I get from the interview as well. She didn’t force herself on Simone or ask for money. If she got paid for the interview then great, but at least she didn’t just pop up in her daughters face demanding reconciliation. The ball is in Simone’s court, because like you said she knows her daughter has been good without her all these years.

It is fair to say we don’t know for sure whether it’s a money grab…there’s no way to give an affirmative either way. However, this isn’t the first public interview she’s done. She was doing interviews right after Simone’s first Olympics…and there are the other unknown factors we are not privy to. She may be hurt and in pain, but if she genuinely wanted to do the work to build a relationship with Simone there are other ways to accomplish that without involving paid interviews. Her giving birth to Simone does not make her a mother, and does make her entitled to a relationship with her. The interviews come off as selfish…If Simone wanted reach out to her publicly or privately, she would do so. If she was truly “waiting,” we wouldn’t get these interviews around the Olympics…I’m sure there is a lot about their dynamic she isn’t revealing, and a reason why Simone hasn’t reached out to her. Simone has spoken on being in foster care; being adopted by her grandparents; and her birth mom…She has also reiterated that she has a mom and a dad, so for her to do these interviews it shows she is not concerned with what Simone wants or how this affects her.

I agree, but however, the parent is the parent. And it’s not the child that messed up their lives is the parent that catastrophically changed their Children’s lives. Even though she does have pain in her eyes, it’s pain that unfortunately she caused, now Jesus can do anything, but if she’s really apparent she would extend the first olive branch because she is the parent and whether Simone is ready or not at least the parent that caused all of the trauma should be the first one to step forward take responsibility and apologize Regardless of how much pain she may have
