Is everyone wrong about matte screen OLEDs? | QD-OLED vs OLED Picture Comparison - วิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยี
Been waiting years for a large truly matte anti-glare screen. I hate screen reflections and always notice them. Just bought the 77” S95D. It blew me away in person. You need to see it in person. Nice review!
Yes! I went to see it in a store a few days ago, and I've never seen such an amazing anti-glare screen. Now I'm just desperately waiting for them to use this on a monitor display.
Matte literally makes it worse. But cope anyways.
Love the video - best comparison of the two TVs on YT. Nice work. Bought the 77" S95D on a July 4th deal.
Best s95d v g4 Comparison video on youtube! Thanks!
Without looking at the price. The tv will be used for movies, series, soccer and some gaming. Which one of these 2 models do you recommend at 77 inch?
Samsung have much better accurate colors out of box, higher brightness, and awsome reflection handling! LG: slightly better motion interpolation. Better uppscale from SD low res. and dolby vision, dts audio passtrought.. I prefer S95D. Matte screen is game changer! and the colors...
It’s hard to tell if both TVs are subjected to the same window lighting here. Would have been more fair to place both TVs in the same position, and then do a video side by side comparison. 8:30
Great review. Really appreciate you showing the impact of ambient light from windows, a common real life situation. Both great TVs, but leaning toward S95D to replace older LG C8 which I’ll move to a room with shutters and better light control.
Love that you record your videos in 4K HDR 👍🏾
S95D Color Brightness and Color Volume is insane. Love my S95D. And for the glossy vs matte discussions: i can’t imagine switching back to a glossy TV. the Samsung coating is doing magic.
Indeed
but no Dolby Vision!

Best unbiased comparison on YT between the two...
I wanted to buy S95D, so was searching for an unbiased comparison between the two...
I love LG too, in fact my current TV is an LG too, but the way some people were bashing the S95D, I got confused, thinking is the matte screen really that bad?
This video proved that S95D has more superior picture quality than the G4...
Thanks man.. I don't need to see any more videos now... :)
I was thinking the same thing. I went to BestBuy and the Samsung looked just as good as the LG. The whole store was lite up and the glare was noticeable on LG. I have a Samsung soundbar, so I was leaning heavily towards the Samsung(Q-symphony). I wanted to see the difference between the two as well. I am sold on the Samsung, but to be completely truthful. A person would be absolutely happy with either TV. Both TVs are bad ass!
@@lemaitrethemonk the matte is the only reason i would oick samsung over LG tbh it’s only selling point
This is amazing. Can you do an S95D vs. A95L next?
Really good comparison. Thanks for the HDR presentation.
I used to be concerned about the screen reflections with OLED's. But since owning a 2020 48" LG CX for 4 years I don't even notice reflections, and that's with it placed in a room with a large double west facing windows that blasts in full sun in the afternoon. Thanks for this comparison vid. I can tell a difference with the image quality. I'll be sticking with a glossy screen when it comes time to replace. 👍
Wow this was a great video comparison!
Big Props to you bro for making this a fair comparison and showing the true strengths and weaknesses on both.
It’s hard to believe reviews now days people favoring certain brands etc.
Fantastic comparison. I was eagerly awaiting this one and you did not disappoint. I would personally go with the S90D over both of them; it has a glossy screen which I prefer and is cheaper than the S95D. RTINGS actually gave them the same score.
I have the s90d and sadly it is only a 800 nit tv
@@corzabourne2101 the S90D has a peak brightness of 1300 nits.
@cun7us did you read the brochure or did you measure this ?
@@corzabourne2101 RTINGS measured it. It does however, have aggressive ABL and ASBL so that will affect the brightness a lot more than other OLEDs.
Panel lottery of QD-OLED and WOLED with the S90D
Thank you I'm so stuck in deciding between the two. Initially was leaning to the LG G4 but seeing it in the store today next to the Samsung might have changed my mind.
Im guessing using filmmaker mode on both would create very similar brightness with probably the s95d appearing slightly more saturated?, i would have preferred to see s95d movie compared to cinema home on the g4 since those are the less accurate more brighter modes, cinema is the accurate mode for the g4 so it would obviously appear dimmer than movie on the s95d, so i would have preferred it being compared with filmmaker mode, but overall nice job.
I gave back my Samsung s95d with the matte display... I don't like it at all... it looks like an LCD TV... I'd rather keep my Panasonic woled with a glass display for a while

This is decent. One of my reliable tv youtubers you are😊
@7:07 the s95d whites look a lot more accurate/pure white than the G4, at least to my eyes. Don’t know if that’s how it looks like in person but the G4 seems to have a blueish tint. Thought Woleds were meant to have the brighter and more pure whites because of the white sub pixel?
S95D looking great 👍
This is a solid review that I think most people would find helpful. It's unfortunate you are being harassed by a swarm of LG fan boys. They're been like this since QD-OLED panels started mud stomping WOLED panels. Competition in the market place really bugs them. Thanks for taking the time to put this together.
Ive noticed this too. Seems like LG fanboys are kinda delusional.
I mean I get the LG fan boys. But my TV cannot be setup anywhere other than directly opposite of 3 giant windows.
Additionally, it needs a stand because the wall is a type of solid stone and I can't retro actively add gutters.
With those facts, the Samsung makes sense.
Lg fanboys or not - matte is a disaster. In any ambient light you lose contrast - what’s the point of having qd oled if you lose the contrast and color intensity as presented here. Gloss only has problem with direct reflections - matte with any even off angle light sources. I would go for it if it was gloss. So either G4 or waiting another year as Sony pricing is ridiculous.
@@whitecrowuk575 Reflected lights are simply more obtrusive. People don't care about contrast if 4 giant white squares are blocking content. You know what's worse than a washed out pixel? A literal white reflection of your window.
In darkness, there is no noticeable difference. So you still get all the advantages of qd OLED under that scenario. A movie night is still going to look amazing.
So it's really about the daylight scenario and what you prefer. Matte is just more practical for the average consumer and gamer. Because I like to see wtf I'm doing when I'm playing a dark game.
Do the reflections show on the glossy screen when the tv is on or just when it’s off? Thanks.
Great video. We never use Movie Mode, as we've always commonly used Standard Mode.
I have both the S90C and S95D.
I must be living in an alternate universe, because the matte screen is amazing - I can now game with lights
Also, the S95D is significantly better than my S90C in every way, I am just shocked that it seems I am the only one who sees this.
I have calibrated, and used the settings on both extensively. It just isn't close at all.
@@loopcx3761 Not in my experience. The matte screen has allowed .e to finally game with lights on and I see no degradation
What size screen do you have? The 55 and 65 inch S90's mostly were 1st gen panels. the 77inch was a guaranteed 2nd gen panel which was much improved. My S89C is very close to the S95C.
Samsung bots be Botting for matte.
@DrakonR k? Is it not possible to be okay with it?
@@ehenningsen you're not fooling anyone bot.
It's a preference thats all. There is no right or wrong. Tell you the truth, am a non matte screen person but your side by side has me changing my mind. Wow that looks good. Glare does suck, so having less glare is good.
How about the green tinting in the G4, where green pixels shine through where they shouldn't.
FANTASTIC review!!
Bravo !!
S95d is the best imo
Its easy to dial back excessive colour saturation whilst theres nothing you can van do about white pixel diluting washing colours out
The Samsung is really good. I've had both (C2 and S95B), and I prefer the Samsung display. The matte finish would be great in my bright living room.
I had the CX then the s95b, massive upgrade!
The LG G4 already won one shootout this year and the S95D was behind it. I get the G4 over the S95D anyday.
Which shootout?

@@TheBJ2012all day!
And the s90d over all of them 😂
Couple of remarks - comparing inaccurate Samsungs movie mode to accurate cinema on LG is a bit pointless. It doesn’t show what LG is capable of only how Samsung oversaturated colors.
Secondly - with reflections being in the picture - Samsung loses color saturation to the point it looks under saturated compared to LG accurate mode? I mean that shows how much contrast gets a hit. Whilst on LG we don’t see reflections when colors are present, only when blacks. Gloss wins no doubt. Not to mention reflections and picture are at different focal lengths - which means it’s easy to lock your eyes on the picture and totally ignore reflections - unless they are too strong and attract our focus more than picture itself.
I adore your hdr videos man. Well done putting them with similar reflections also. You might be first who managed to do so. It’s fun to watch.
You make some good points, thanks!
The fact that Samsung has manipulated the TV internally to make it stand out and the accuracy is not there defeats in immediately. Add no DV and it’s over.
@@zelko0768 Samsung's Oleds, well at least since the S90/95C and this S95D as well are very accurate in filmmaker mode especially after a calibration. It's simply pointless to compare two TVs in anything other than their most accurate picture modes, you'll simply see each manufacturers approach to manipulating the picture - that doesn't tell you which TV is better. To learn that, you'd have to get them as accurate as you can and play demanding content (= very bright content with wide color gamut and/or high color saturation, scenes with high dynamic range and very high/very low APL scenes) that's where the wheat separates from the chaff.
Regarding showing the coating; VillaMan did a decent job capturing the reflections on camera there but to fairly compare them, they have to be at the same angle towards the camera! Put them right next to each other or on top of one another otherwise we have no idea how the reflection of one TV would actually look like on the other.
@@floz9718 thanks for putting me to sleep
@@zelko0768 So you're an idiot... Got it!
I'm enjoying my Sony A80L with its semi-glossy screen. It does enough rejection of lights in my dining room and kitchen but keeps the deep black levels. And it's plenty bright for my space.
Huh? Did I miss something Why didn’t you use FMM on the Samsung? You compared LGs accurate mode to Samsungs inaccurate mode? No wonder they tracked EOTF differently - this wasn’t a good comparison.
I was a long time samsung follower when it comes to tv's but LG is now my go to due to how it future proofs their tv's

Hi, I would like to know if you left the TVs with the factory pre-calibration or if you did the calibration yourself, thanks
the matte is more cinematic. but i never watch TVs in movie mode it looks dull I watch in standard mode and tune in the picture
From 7:27-7:37 the way the s95d deals with the yellow reflections of the super bright G4 is impressive
Besides that’s QD OLED is just the superior technology
No clue
Yo Villa, both TVS look good but now I see that the Samsung is brighter than the MLA LG G4. Wow I thought that matte screen would make the TVlook like crap, but it really looks good on the S95D.
10:00
Is that halo that I see? Is it seen in real time or it's just created or exacerbated by the camera! Seems like the matte screen is causing more issues
I cant decide between the G4 and S95D. Now i have a G1 and liked it a lot but QD Oled is something that turn me on:) But i have heared the S95D has a very agrresive ABL and i am looking a lot of sports, gaming and movies.
I think the issue with s95d is still the lack of a polarizer with qd-oled that can further improve bright room performance. I'm not a fan of matte displays but I'd be interested to see how a polarizer will improve the matte look.
They have smart shades now 🤔 Jesus, i'm getting old ... i still do it the old way, like getting up and close the curtains.

What if I told you I elected to keep the g4 over the s95d . The media playback is smoother . The Samsung was like watching everything as cartoons . Sports look better on the lg also . So keep your measurements. I loving the lg g4
Look at how much richer and more entertaining the Samsung is. WOLED is inferior.
Another smooth brain, comment. Please advise any tv that is rated higher than the g4. Feel free to look at RTINGS, and almost any reputable site. Go ahead, I’ll anxiously await your reply

Which one of these you recommend in 77inch, most use for watching/streaming movies, series from netflix etc. Watching soccer and some gaming? Light control is no issue
would be great if you could compare these 2 to the 85 inch BRavia 9. Would be great to know which is the best premium tv out of those 3 panels
Interesting point at @3:20 about off angle becoming more sharp.... Optics! I guess!
7:22 why does the S95D blacks look light here?
it the top right corner? that's the g4 reflection, he should've put the 2 TVs side by side not perpendicular from each other so they don't interfere with each others screens
Because the matte crap panel
What a great video! Best comparison of these two sets, and love you dont use filmmaker mode. And i HDR! Thanks man 🥳 The S95D looks incredible.
great job with this review...my only question is does the samsung come in a 83" size? and can you buy a remote with buttons and numbers for the samsung unit? are you losing picture quality and detail by using the tv apps vs an apple tv box?
Question:
Would you be able to measure/compare APL capabilities of those sets?. In higher APL scenes we lose brightness which means lower contrast and lowers the depth perception - so that is as important as pure blacks, more important than peak brightness alone.
A lot of people say G4 is brighter in real content - that is probably due to higher APL (or worse Samsung tone mapping). Perhaps the combination of inky blacks that WOLED has and higher APL than ever before (it apparently draws 30% more energy over G3 and can heat up the room) - could unlock this 3D pop people are talking about. Perhaps it’s not only thanks to better processing but higher overall picture brightness. Possibly they have crossed this threshold of contrast/brightness where objects stand out to our eyes. Would love for someone to compare APL to see the difference between them.
Ps. I know you compared subjectively APL here but this was in incompatible modes - inaccurate Samsung and accurate LG. You would need to load up min 2000 or 4000 nit content and see them on both what it looks like in bright scenes.
Thank you for this. An informative and bias free comparison.
Thank God for stumbling upon your video!
You are the best TV reviewer on TH-cam.
You got straight to the point, you care about our time and you upload HDR videos.

In which setting did you set the screen saver at 01:00? I upgraded from LG C8 to G4, but I couldn't find this setting anywhere in G4.
Hi, a curiosity...
who among Sony, Panasonic and LG performs the best upscaling and who has the best motion processor for SDR streaming content?
I would like to get the best live viewing for streaming sports content compressed with h264 and h265 codecs for example.
Panasonic has now improved with the new MZ2000 models and with the new mk2 processor on Z95A on this side and I've seen LG has also improved...
Sony still remains a point of reference or have things changed? I saw that Panasonic uses an IFC Accurate for Upscaling. In conclusion, how are Sony Panasonic and LG positioned in this area?
Thanks again Denis.
Sony is still king in motion and upscaling
I always close all windows and doors so my room is completely dark. That's why reflections don't exist to me.
Hi does s95d come in 83 inch. If not would you recommend bravia 9 85 inch or g4 83 inch
I would choose the G4 all day. The LG is sharper and has a better color accuracy where as the S95D’s picture is softer and the color is washed out. The Deer and Lizard comparison tells it all.
Its sharper because of the undefeatable sharpness lg baked in. Just put any other tv upto 20 sharpness(including other lg oleds) and you're there
@@enzopied3015 This doesn't change the reality. I know Villa man is a pro and gave us both tvs at their peak settings and the LG is just better in color accuracy and sharpness and to me better overall.
Fake Samsung internal settings to attract the clueless. Anyone who knows anything can see that the LG is far superior plus no DV on one so don’t even understand why this is even a question. Samsung should be going up against the likes of Hisense for true comparison

I think ALL OLEDS look great they all will have color differences etc… what I want to know is how do the different brands compare in processing. I have an S90C I just purchased and it looks great on 4k HDR but it actually doesn’t as good as the 10 year old Samsung 4k edge lit led it replaced as far as upscaling and motion of regular television shows we’ve watched for years. Is there that much difference in picture motion and processing between LG and Samsung? Why would my older Samsung process lower quality content better than a more advanced processor.
This was a complete and utter waste of time. Why compare these two sets in completely inaccurate modes?! Samsung Movie mode vs LG’s more accurate Cinema mode was a massive mistake. Please use Film Maker modes in your comparisons going forward, so we have a level and more accurate playing field.
Sooo the video told you nothing?
@@ThaVillaMan No I didn’t. I already knew Samsungs movie mode would be highly inaccurate and over brightened due to their lack of adherence to the EOTF curve. I also knew LG would be more accurate because their sets are used as client monitors in Hollywood grading suites. You need to understand that people willing to spend thousands on a TV are hardcore enthusiasts, looking for highly accurate picture quality. Your assumption that we leave TV’s in “Standard” or “Vivid” modes is completely wrong. Accurate modes like Filmmaker or LG’s Cinema mode is what we want to see.
Filmmaker mode sucks, put the LG on standard, colour 65 and native/dynamic colour gamut, that's what I use, nothing below 68 is oversaturated on my G3. Filmmaker mode is accurate to 30 year old standards. If the world looked like it, I would think I'm going blind. Just buy a cheap TV if you want to use filmmaker mode, they all look the same

I actually prefer the yhe matte look of a projector image to a tv image would that mean the samsung would be the tv to get 🤔
As a s95D owner, yes they are wrong.
its better than LG g4?
Yes the Samsung is brighter, initially, but the TV after a very short time throttles down the brightness from over 1000 nits to 100 according to tests.
If you watch the digital trends comparison of these TVs, he explains when testing the TVs with test images and percent widows, the nits measurements don’t accurately reflect a true comparison. The G4 brightness is adaptive and depends on content. Watching real content side by side, Caleb at Digital trends (among other reviewers) point out that the G4 appears brighter.
