#1 Reason Why You're NOT Building Muscle

- Alright, today we're going over what I think is the number 1 reason that holds people back from building muscle and making serious gains... hint, it's you're fault.
**NEW FULL GYM PROGRAM: bit.ly/fullgym...
30 DAY GARAGE PROGRAM: bit.ly/3igtiIF
Now I know people will argue about this and say it's your diet or the supplements you're not taking but the most prevalent reason is people are simply not working out hard enough. I know that's a tough pill to swallow but look around the gym and see if anyone is even breaking a sweat, even at the most hardcore gyms people are so focused on filming themselves for IG they don't put much thought into what they are doing. This should help you change that.
I also go over exactly what it means to push yourself to failure on every set.

This dude has changed my life. I’m 35 years old have MS and if I didn’t stumble across Ryan I’d still be sitting on my couch feeling sorry for myself. If I can work out 5 days a week with intensity anyone can! Thanks for doing what you do Ryan, congrats on the million!!
Amazing bro. You're an absolute stud.
Holy shit, he reads comments!
Nice bro 🙏🏽👍🏽
I'm a 65 yr old female, after shoulder surgery, after leg surgery, and some others. You're telling the truth, his programs do change lives. He made me work out, and pretty much rejuvenated my old carcass to the point where I look better than some people not even half my age.
I do 6 days a wk 💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿
I’m 35 and new to building muscle.
My fiancé left me 3 days after Xmas and won’t let me see my children.
So working out is saving me mentally
Your videos are not only inspiring but I don’t feel as alone. So thank you dude you have no idea how much your helping
Sorry that happened to you
In my country girls like yours getting drilled in the skull, most of them getting killed, when they are acting like that
Keep going bro, I hope you get to see your kids soon. Just know they miss you too.
Hope things get better for you! Stay in that gym! Its therapy for me
Stay strong brother !!!! Things do get better trust me.
I’m 23 with depression and anxiety as well as body dysmorphia. I used to self harm and had thoughts about making attempts on my life almost daily. With that cake addiction to alcohol and drugs and an overall disgust for myself. Working out saved my life. I finally have something to look forward to that gives me immediate satisfaction. It also taught me discipline in other parts of my life like college. Before I started working out I failed out of college twice. Now, I’m proud to say I am now in aviation maintenance and have all As. Thank you Ryan for always making me laugh and showing the science behind every muscle group! You saved me!
Good job bro...proud of you
Great testimony brother keep up the hard work and enjoy the benefits.
Doing well keep going man. From a 39 year old who trains hard and diets well, but has still suffered with depression and anxiety all my life, check out stoicism on TH-cam. Play it in the background to your workouts. Changed my life! The only thing that's worked (as well as diet and training)
9 months have passed. Give us an update soldier!
Also, the only place to self harm is in the GYM!
It’s crazy my dude is past a million. I remember like a year and a half ago he was just reach 100k. The real has prospered for sure
Dude - I didn’t even realize he hit a mill already! I also began following him around 100k, right before the “pandemic”
I joined when he was starting out. Followed 4 different trainers at the time. Now i just follow Ryan.
I started following him just before the pandemic started and he’s just blown up
I followed him he had 92 people subscribed 🤯
Ryan actually speaks truth 🤣
Just go watch the other dudes with fake plates and whatnot, dude uses 15s
This was a completely necessary video. Not a lot of people realize the struggle to grow comes from hard work.
Or you can possibly take enhancements like Ryan 👍
@@sinistercharger he didnt take any enhancement
@@arishemghoul9571 he is on testosterone but that does negate the hard work required to reach his physique👌🏼
He is on peds but he still has to do the workouts. Just important to note you may not get the same results so important to be realistic. It is good advice though
Two kids, and a happy life removed from 25, and I have been in the worst shape of my life for several years. Distended my left elbow beyond retraction when I was tripped at work, and caught all 320lbs of me on the left. Spent two years drinking bourbon, while teaching myself how to cook, meal plan & eat better. Never been a beer guy. Never been a cake or sweets guy. I was/am a bit still made of meat, bread and cheese.
Went back to work after two surgeries on the arm, and torn up the meniscus in my knee. Off work again. No drinking this time. Physical therapy, and started gathering gym supplies.
And watching your stuff.
I'm notoriously slow to change habits.
44 y.o. now, and I'm actually okay with the dietary adjustment. I have a little house with a little garage and a little Florida room, and I just try to get my time in.
Best part is I work as a bus driver.
I keep dbs on the bus for reps in my downtime;)
Just fighting to stay consistent;)
Thank you for all you do.
Even my girls think you're funny.
Thanks for sharing Joe you've inspired me
Honestly Ryan's short, straight to the point videos are a game changer. In an era where everyone vlogs 25 min videos and has super long intros, Ryan's videos are just straight up cathartic. And he mixes in hilarious raunchy/dry humor in them which makes me crack up. I salute you brother, you're an absolute legend. 🙏🏽
Facts!!!
that's why i liked this guy he is so diff from others, the dude doesn't talk shit he is the real deal
Couldn’t of said it better myself
I don't get how anyone whose videos are 65% fart jokes can keep being described as "to the point".
@@brooke510 dude its all about the jokes!
I have never pushed myself this hard ever since I found Ryan. And I love it. I have grown so much. Never a dull workout day ever. Thanks Ryan for stepping out into the world. Will try to keep supporting you how ever I can.
Brother same here. Ryan has helped me become a beast
Are you two on steroids, because Ryan’s training style is more suited for people who are already built and are on gear. Most of the people watching his videos don’t need 10 variations of biceps curls to see gains.
True but his old videos where better, know its too much of talking
@@thefirmamentalist9922 It's not 10 variations, it's pick the one you connect to the most today and go to failure again and again and again and...you get it.
@@thefirmamentalist9922 he is just providing variety. but he has a point with intensity and mind muscle connection. majority of folks in the gym have no clue what they are doing. how many people you see there 4 times a month and they do 2 sets of bench with horrible form and leave? or they put too much weight and fail to have good form and never grow? he preaches good form and connection. also high repetitions. he is tired of people complaining they arent seeing results. he gives the tough love people need to hear. most people arent working out intense enough to make gains.
A couple years ago I did myself the biggest favor ever.... I stopped counting reps and go to failure. My goal is to aim for 20 reps just like he mentioned, but I don't count because your mind fails before your body does. If your mind says do 20, then you'll end up being tired at 20. When you could actually do 27. Just count completely random numbers, 35, 12, 18, 91,... That way you never know how many reps you're actually doing. Go to failure.
Do you time your sets? I've always done heavier weight and lower reps that lasted maybe 15 - 20 seconds. Now I'm focusing on sets that last 45 - 50 seconds and go to failure, and I just count reps for the sake of it. But, I just started adopting the lighter weight & more sets method and going to failure on every set.
@@shainester each rep is probably about 2 seconds, I don't time sets, because every set is a different number of reps at failure. But I do time the time between sets and I keep that at about 30 seconds.
That’s not a bad idea although how do you track your progress? Also I thought that for hypertrophy the optimal rep range is 8-12 and 3 or 4 sets of the heaviest possible weight you could manage to do that with. 20 reps and up would tell me that I’m not lifting heavy enough. Unless I’m training for conditioning or endurance of course in which case the more reps the better.
@@benhall2235 everyone is built different, so you may have to experiment. But this does definitely work for me. But you have to go to true failure not just counting a number and stopping. Short breaks, 4 to 5 sets. Good form is key, you don't get that with heavy weights, you cheat. Muscle "time under tension" is critical. With heavy weights stressing the muscle only lasts a couple seconds. Every once in a while I do throw in a heavy day about once every 2 weeks. I know people that all they have to do is look at weights and they can grow. They piss me off. So you have to try some things, find out what's best for you. Test a system for at least two to three months, not just a week or two, that is too short.
@@johnmatejcik2379 cool thanks man I’ll give it a go. I have recently started to do lighter weights and concentrate on the mind/muscle link and good form but have only been doing it for a couple of weeks so far. I’ll keep at it.
When you threw the one mill subs on the floor I busted out laughing hahahahha. Every other youtuber frames it, hangs it, and you just chucked it on the ground. fuckin love it.
He still filmed it sooooo
@@Zoltar1811 yeah filmed it to show its not important...10 seconds of the video. Hes happy about it, but its not the big point.
Its like saying "yeah, i got there, but im not done."
@@Zoltar1811 still a million(pun intended) times better than other youtubers unboxing.
Zoltar you obviously missed the joke. It was his "unboxing video".
Good and simple explanation when it comes to the failure training to gain muscle. As a med.trainer im responsible for my clients and one of the things I always want to know is " is the client ready to reach their goals". Meaning, the stress this way of training will give you're body can ruin your gains if you are not in balance. If you have a stressful job or you sleep is off (you already pointed out food) than you're already in a stressful position. Pushing yourself to failure for a longer time can than overload your system causing some serious issues. You are very experienced and you will know this stuff but I just wanted to point this out for those who watch this video. Thank you for this video, it still motivated me to pick my ass up and push it !!! Greetings from the Netherlands !
I love this guy. It’s the tough love people need to reach their goals.
This man is changing my life. I was around 355 and now I’m 280. Still a lot of work to do, but would not be where I I’m at if he didn’t start making videos. Probably the greatest deal for workout material. Can’t wait for the next program to come out. Congratulations on 1 million thank you.
nice work! Keep going!
2 months since you posted your comment, hope the progress has continued and you're hitting the new year with a running start!!
No, you're changing your life. He's helping, but you're the one taking action.
Strong work! Keep going, we're all going to make it brah.
“This is therapy because we’re pretty fucked up”.
I read this as he said it 😂
So true.
Lol hard facts are best facts.
30-day garage workout. Arm day. I literally had a freak out moment leaving the gym. I thought if I even flexed my arms, either the skin or the muscle was going to tear in half. I've never been so pumped in my life.
You've completely changed how I work out and I can't thank you enough. I just completed your 30 day gym program earlier this evening and it was truly incredible; every lift was as much of a mental challenge as it was physical. Congratulations on the 1 million milestone as well, if our paths ever cross, beer's on me.
And would you say you‘ve made progress/gains?
Agree 100% I didn’t start growing right until I lowered the weight, did reps until I couldn’t lift my arms (or whatever muscle) and looked for that burn that’s so bad I couldnt focus on anything other than the pain. I grew more in 1 year training like this than I did in my 1st 3 years
Im still in my first year and I have slight growth so far, I will try this method too.
Are supposed to do it every set or the last set only?
Thanks!
Congrats on the million, well deserved! In all my years training, increasing intensity and not stopping till failure is the number 1 biggest aid to breaking through plateau's. I've learnt a lot and continue to through your videos.
Congrats on the 1M subs! Your channel is the first time I heard about "mind muscle connection" and knowing that and your 30 day garage gym program I have been noticing some results for the first time since I've been a beginner I feel sore after a workout... I guess I know now that I wasn't going intense enough before.
Yessir absolutely deserves it and then some
First time I’ve heard of the connection as well. At least the first time it’s emphasized so much. Love it. Changed the way I look at it to me.
Yoooo hero is here❤️
Crazy to think one of the three greatest motorcycle channels I watch also follows this great guy!
check out the huberman podcast and ben greenfield podcast! their dialogue is very similar to what is said here by ryan 👍🏽 i think youd dig it
Straight to the point, everyone dances around what you need but my guy know exactly what’s up 💪
Ryan, I’ve been with a trainer for 12 weeks with great results. Your method is identical to hers but you’ve reassured me that it’s ok to be sore all the time and push everything to failure. You are down to earth, honest and refreshing. Thanks.
As a beginner you shouldn't push to failure all the time, your body needs time to adapt, and even if your muscle recover fast enough, your joints and ligaments will not.
It's okay to push to failure, but if you do throw in a deload week every now and then, I promise you, ur gains will go through the roof.
What I do is, I split my training into 5 week cycles, where I push myself harder and harder with each week.
Week one, I leave 2-3 reps in my tank and week four, I go all out to failure and add dropsets and isometrics.
Week 5 then is a deload week, where I workout with 10 percent less weight.
@@csih2119 Yeah if you're been training 3 months you should be no where near training to failure yet. Don't even worry about training to failure honestly. Worry about adding weight every week. If you hit 135 on the bench for 8 then next week do 140 for 8. You training to failure that early on is honestly just a waste, you'll get better results with just standard progressive overload.
@@carltaylor2975 yes, so true. Maybe even longer than 3 montha
@@carltaylor2975 people tend to overcomplicate everything way too hard, as a beginner you only need to train consistently with some sort of progression, enough calories and sleep. If you are advanced you can play with your training, by adding dropsets.... But a beginners body will grow just as fine without them
So important, "I'm going to see if I can hurt myself." This is key. It's pushing yourself beyond limits most will not go to or past. Excellent reality here. I'm not going for bigger muscles because I lift to compete in powerlifting competitions but the same principles apply. Bingo! Great video.
Embracing the fear helps too. Or acknowledging you have fear. You know you entered the right territory mentally when you feel scared AF about the next set.
You guys must be youngsters with no day jobs. You have to go to work the next day. You can't cripple yourself in the gym.
@@foxybrown2 going all out on every set is bad advice ,even if you are young and on steroids, .....over training is the problem and the main reason trainers don't grow.
I like this dude no nonsense and a good sense of humor.following now
I train so hard that I feel like I could throw up, if I’m not sweating that means I need to shorten the rest between reps. Ryan you are such an amazing person in the fitness world. I love your no nonsense approach.
Omg I was here when the pandemic started and this man is the reason I even started caring about my physique. You were around like 100k or less that's insane how far you've came. God bless you and your progress. 🙏🏽
Thank you. It is training. Nice to hear someone actually saying it. I was going to say more but this is 3 years old, I just seen that in the preview and came here to that. You just found yourself a new follower.
Absolutely! I never thought I can push myself to this level. Both programs are amazing, worth every cent! I can tell going back to my routine with relatively higher weight I do not feel the mind-muscle connection I am getting with lower weight and slow controlled movements.
This is now the only channel I'm subscribed to for this type of content , amazing and straight to point 👍
I wish every explanatory video on TH-cam should be done in this dude style. On point. No bs. Keep it up.
I'm 70 yrs old and never worked out in my life. And all I got is a couple of dumbbells and pushups. But everything changed when I started sweating. It ain't easy building muscle at 70 but I'm sweating and I'm growing. Thanks man.Lets get after it !

Yeah im 90 yrs old and same thing i didn't saw results until i start sweating. Gotta keep them muscles sore all the time.

anything else is technique to properly use the hrt/trt....
Damn Leonard, get it
You can build muscle at any age. They went to old folks homes and people in their 90s were growing muscle
THANK YOU, RYAN….for this TRUTH. I have always thought that there was something wrong with me because I sleep a lot and because I’m sore ALL the time. And that whole “working-out-gives-you-energy” myth has always haunted me when I’m face-planted on my bed after each workout. But Ryan has just given me the motivation to keep going. I LOVE this video and I LOVE this guy.
i drip sweat every time i go to the gym, I go hard AF, and people look at me like I got the plague especially with covid going on, any sweat and people think they will catch something
Man. At 43, I’ve never been depressed a day in my life. I always woke up happy and reset no matter what. 4 months ago… I had a huge thing happen and it felt like I was losing everything. I figured if I was hurting on the inside - I should hurt on the outside as well.
I started working out. Been making gains but watching this video I realize I’ve been fooling myself and being a little b. Thank you for your encouragement. Im about to sign up for your program and go full S&M on myself. Can’t thank you enough. Ready to cry at work from the pain of kicking my ass instead of life kicking it for me.
Cheers
Dude you are the best! You're not only correct about your bodybuilding advice, but you're funny as hell. You make it all worthwhile at the end of the day.
Ryan. I have always been a gym rat of course off and on raising my kids. 6 years ago I had 7 bypass surgery. My doctor said I should be dead if it wasn’t for working out. I Would not be here. I’ve never been fat but heavier sometimes than I should be. I have always still worked out even though the doctors said it probably wasn’t a good idea. I’m 62 now and after watching your videos I am showing gains like I have never seen. If I die at the gym it’s almost as good as dying during sex. Now my grandson is my training partner. I am killing him. He keeps telling me coach never works us this hard. I just smile and tell him to quit crying. Thanks for the great and entertaining videos.
Thank you for telling me you're sore all the time. I'm constantly sore from working out, and I never hear anybody else say this. It was beginning to get me discouraged. Hearing you say this makes me want to not give in.
24 years pumping and I’m sore every time the next day
Just got out of the hospital after a 2 week stay for appendix issues.
Due to the pain and horrible hospital food as well as the inibility to move around very much i lost 9 lbs of lean muscle which took me 90 days of working my ass off in the gym to put on prior to being hospitalized. It might not sound like much but im 35, 6'4" and I was up to 197lbs after walking around at 180 or less for most of my life.
I was extremely discouraged but today i went back to the gym for my day 1 of the come back and im going to do it even better this time, correct all the mistakes i was making before and come out bigger and stronger physically, mentally, and spiritually.
Thank you for your channel!
Ryan, your nonchalant acceptance of that 1 million sub award is the reason I respect you so much!
Won something? Who cares? Back to work!
Thats not fair to say for everyone. Whats wrong with appreciating your accomplishments and making a little noise about it with the ones you love? We are humans not robots.
Congrats on 1mil man
My workouts suck because of you
Thanks man!
Good video, I worked out halfassed on and off for years because I tried to conserve energy for the weekend, meeting friends and partying. Stayed pretty much the same in size. Recently because of some healthissues I stopped drinking. Started working out more seriously and brought my intensity way up, now I'm seeing alot of growth. I repeat 2 mantras in my head everytime I'm becoming complacent. If I'm at home trying to find excuses for resting "Just keep showing up" over and over again and if I'm at the gym "Become a monster".
Ryan has helped me become a beast. Whenever I feel like being lazy in the gym, I just think of Ryan and picture him sweating and in pain Lol 😂
For real. I imagine him making fun of my current physique
Kinda gay af
@@MoreBuffMoreMuff I was about to comment this.

Lol yes
Yes! 👏🏽👏🏽😂
I agree too. I get to the gymn and no one matters than me and what I came there for. My music on and let's kick some muscles. Sweat and heavy breathing and repeat. The mind is free. Stress is at its lowest.
The algorithm and luck got me here. The no bull straight to the point no excuses style is gold. 10/10
"For most of us, this is therapy"
I always tell everyone, workouts are my therapy sessions!
Totally agree. Workouts keeps me calm.
Yep, and less judgement. Seems totally normal to have therapy sessions daily!
Me too.
hell yeah 💪🏽
Honestly though. If I didn’t work out or lost the ability to, I don’t even know if I’d still be here
Just a heads up on the ''work to failure'' concept. I completely agree you should push yourself HARD when you are at the gym. If you walk away without a sweat that day didnt count. But i would also heavily advice proper rest, as in longer rest periods that makes you recover completely. If you push your muscles every second day 365 days a year you will grow but your muscles also never fully heal, nor will you push yourself as hard. Its like putting half a tank of gas in a car and expect it to go for as many miles as a fully loaded car, or plug 2 pistons and expect no difference. The potential is there but you dont have enough fuel or mechanical endurance to apply the same force.
I see ALOT of videos about working out and pushing the limit, but few of them enforce rest properly. Those who get into a good routine are likely to fail since they just end up hitting a wall of 0 energy.
I’m happy he got his plaque from TH-cam! Changed my gains results like crazy! Funny as hell! Keep the great content coming!
I’m 45, in good shape, and I’ve been lifting/exercising since I was a teenager. I’ve been 195-200 lbs for over 20 years. Here’s the kicker, I work 13 hour shifts between days and nights. It’s atrocious. Could you do a video for diet and workout recommendations for folks that don’t work 9-5 bankers hours. Appreciate it.
Night shifter and mid shifter here, would like something catered to us for sure.
Yeah plumbers that already get off tired 😆
Yep completely agree. 20 year old juicers and juiced up old men ruin it it for the normal guy. I've been working night shifts and odd hours all my career. Working out consistently for the past ten. I find consistency is the key. Also being older you have to watch out for injuries from years of physical work and a lifetime of punishment from long hours. I find it's easier to ramp up my intensity over a two week cycle. And guy that says you can do intense work outs every day is full of shit and has a doctor prescribed edge. Pretty much this guy shilling this video.
Just put in a double 16hr shift and will do that 3 times a week. Both jobs physical and on feet etc. I still do gym 3 to 5 a week but i have to make sure i cant be sore for work or god forbid hurt...without sick leave or medical ins. So its nice that some people can kill themselves at gym me im just keeping myself lean and quick. Injury free. I have a long season...as far as work and life. Breaking myself at gym is a quick way for failure. Economically etc. So while this vid is nice it doesn't speak for the many of us in service industry who cannot go so hard at gym that we are broken. Im 5'9". Im 155ish. Ive been that for year. Lost twenty lbs over that year. I eat fairly well. Im an ex athlete. As a human being we have goals but being injured and not able to lift a box or tray for qoek because i destroyed myself at gym is simply not responsible. Perhaps to be swole the best recommendation for youtube vids is to go into office work or tech from home. And then there is the rest of us who simply cant follow this and have to find other solutions
Godbless
At 60 yrs old I'm still pushing this concept and you're right sore all the fuckin time but it's worth it
62 yrs young and still pushing. Recovery has become the Achilles.
61 & sore all the time & yes it's worth it.
Pushing 60, 1 year in now working out. Dropped 10 waist sizes and getting some muscle growth but intensive training seems to consume me, had to back off.
I'm 55 and I like to push myself to failure. The first set of every exercise is the one I use to see if I can do one more rep than the last time. After that I always go to failure regardless. I'll even do drop sets just to get in more reps and go to failure again. My heart feels like it's going to jump out of my chest, especially doing curls
Man your like my mentor you really got me thinking about a lot of stuff and really pushed me to start working out and I'm a cancer patient just over 4 years out and I've been hitting the gym now for 41 days and I want to say thank you for that motivation
Ryan, thanks for this video. I am by NOOOO means a muscle machine or even close. I’m 46 and I’ve had seven surgeries for Crohn’s Disease, issues with good absorption, whatever. My point is that I work out a LOT, but not sure you’d be able to tell. The thing that blew me away about this video is when you said if you look around the gym, people don’t seem to be sweating or trying that hard. Yes!!! A tiny bit of background-whenever my son or daughter went with me to our community gym, they would always tell me they’re embarrassed because at the END of my sets, I’m growling or I yell a little or loud exhale, etc. they would insist that it’s unnecessary. After watching you explain this, I understand what’s going on. Despite my actual physique, I try to push myself into an intense burn/failure. Most of the people I watch aren’t doing that. They have a preselected number of reps in mind, and when they hit that, they’re done. Thanks so much for posting. I subscribed to your channel!
I’ve been training in the gym from 17-25 now but with some pretty big gaps off. It was only when I started going with my friend a couple years ago and realised how little I actually was pushing myself. Suddenly I was doing more reps on higher weights just because I had that added bit of encouragement/motivation from my friend being with me. That changed my view on working out and now go in with the goal of reaaally improving and pushing myself while still being somewhat sensible
I'm 47 and this has been one of the most informative and inspiring videos ever. Ty 🙏🙏
I was squeezing out a few more reps of dips well past failure when my right shoulder suddenly gave out. Got benched for almost two months and damn near lost all my progress.
It all sounds easy in theory but everyone is different and though I love the motivation, you didn't take that factor into account. Your body can only take so much punishment before it says 'fvck you bruv' and gives up.
Yep, I have a lower ab muscle that is threatening me currently. I am concerned that it is the start of a hernia. I had to back off of my pushup routine for a few days in hopes that it heals up. If I had kept going, I am fairly certain something would have torn and then I would be sidelined for months. I have also accumulated some serious injuries in my 40 years of extreme sports. Torn shoulder labrum, fractured femur, the list goes on. There are just days where I have to be careful.
Facts. Know your physical actual limits. Been using this methodology for six months now, and my bench hasn’t moved up in six months because I keep getting stuck out of the gym for weeks.
@@ethanmaldonado6574 happened with me and deadlifts, no matter how light or heavy I lifted with good form I always felt a twinge in my lower back so have just stopped doing them completely. Other muscle groups I can absolutely blast but always have to be some wheat cautious with the big joints
Yep, tore my calf muscle by Training every day to the limit. Also hurt lower back so Bad with rowing, that after a lumbago I couldn’t walk for 2 days (yep I peed in the shower). Than I called the doctor and got 4 injections in the back. One year later I did the exact same thing, although this time I called the doc right away. I’m not a fast learner but at 32 years old I’m a little bit more careful now.
@@benr970 Screw deadlifts..they are overrated..and no matter how popular they are these days or what any gym bro says..They wont pack on slabs of muscle...They arent the best for building a huge back at all. Use deep heat on back before training 👍
Building strength and muscle is a long term project, 5 years is not much. Secret of success is to exercise regularly for long time. But training always to failure is too hard for most people, training becomes a burden and they leave it. And this is even worse option than to train with bad attitude, too lightly.
.
I must say "30 day workout plan" doesn't sound a serious thing at all. It is not about what you do for 30 days but what you do for 3000 days, or the rest of your life.
I'm 48, can do almost 50 clean push ups, many muscle ups etc. so I'm quite strong for my age. I do train hard and last reps of my sets are always hard. But I am constantly cautious not to make my sets so hard training will become a burden, not a joy.
You can't train always harder. In the long run you must find a sustainable hard level and if that really becomes too easy then add resistance. So you must not push yourself too hard. Quite often professionals (on gear) give unrealistic and bad advice to ordinary people.
I found Ryan’s channel recently! I’m so thankful I did!! I have clogged arteries and 2 A/fib! I was a big time runner ! Did all races! Then I got arthritis in my hip! At age of 47 I lost my optic nerve!! All I’m left with is! My prefer!! I started lifting everyday! Increasing my pushups! But maybe I’m struggling putting on muscle because !! Maybe I’m not eating enough or putting enough protein in!! I have bought protein powder trying to help my protein intake!! I really am thankful for your advice!! Thank you Ryan
I've started doing dropsets on my last sets and it's been tough, but it has never felt better. I feel proud just getting through the workout and the gains feel more and more like a bonus than the main goal.
Whats dropsets?
I am glad Ryan did this video. I have been doing his program over and over the same way he outlined it. Before this video I thought maybe I was getting carried away or should drop weight when I could not complete a set. This was helpful. My legs are always sore from leg day to leg day, love it!
The bit where you said you consider regular sets as warm up sets just unlocked something in my mind. Thank you.
Great tips Ryan! From my experience I couldnt build muscle because my diet was terrible even though I trained hard. But that was my fault because I was lazy and didnt want to count calories and nutrients. I bought cheapest plan I could find from Next Level Diet and after that my muscles started to grow significantly.
Were you not eating enough calories
Were you not in a surplus?
@@DapperSapper515 you don’t need to be in a caloric surplus to build muscle if you’ve got your nutrition on point. Bulking and cutting is a flabby shortcut to gaining muscle along with a load of fat usually and then having to spend half yore time trying to get rid of the fat. As long as you’re eating sleeping and training right and enough high quality protein you can absolutely build strong lean muscle (admittedly at a slower rate) and constantly be ripped in a small caloric deficit. That’s what I’ve pretty much always done, although it was a lot easier in my twenties and thirties because I really didn’t have to watch what I ate as long as I was training. It’s what athlean x prescribes too.
There's exercise, working out, and then there's training. Most people at the gym I go to are exercising.
I’ve always told others, hard work never killed anyone. In my mind I’m thinking, yeah, but damn near it.
First I’ve seen of your posts. I like it, no bs and truthful
100% agree with the therapy. I have 2 young kids (one with special needs), no family help, and a demanding job. I go to the gym from 5-6:30am six days a week while everyone is still sleeping. At least 3 of those days are brutal AF. It’s the only time I get for myself. I’ve been a gym bro for over 20 years but committed last year to getting in the best shape of my life by my 40th bday. Lost almost 30lbs of fat and kept most of my muscle. I owe a big part of that to this channel and a few others for keeping me motivated.
my problem isn't intensity during a single workout. But, overall my problem has been staying consistant. I get into a program for a few months, then, life kicks my ass a bit and or my circumstances change, my schedule changes, I lose access to a gym, etc. The last circumstance to knock me off my program was getting married and starting a family, the circumstances that got me back into the gym was losing my job when the pandemic hit, I made a 6ftx6ft space in my grarage and started lifting what I had, a few dumbells and an easy curl bar. I'm looking to add more equipment soon, once the cash comes back.
Hey Ryan! I’ve been suffering depression and anxiety since I lost my vision!! Going out to our Walmart or restaurant! I get bad anxiety! Love watching your videos .! By the way.! I’m 55!
When I found this intensity, I was consistently miserable pretty much every day, for months at a time. I was literally always hating moving. Stairs, my literal worst enemy.
Ryan you are really changing lives. For me everything changed since i started watching a month ago. I never comment but you shold know how much your work means for guys like me. Im 33 and started working out for the first time. Lost 10lbs. Feel great. And starting to build muscle. Still a long way to go but i made up my mind thanks to you. Keep it up
Can you please share with your eating habits are??
@geno5169 Just keeping it simple. Im still focused on losing weight. Avoiding processed food and carbs. So meat fish eggs. Some carbs but not to much. Up to 2500cal per day. No alcohol and soda maybe main thing haha
I have been waiting for someone like this. He's clear, straightforward and motivating. Time to get after it.
Started the 'Garage' program, and on the first week gave myself mild rabdo ... spoke to the doc, drank some water, it's all sweet (mamma didn't raise no coward) but safe to say, the shit's pretty great. 11/10 would recommend. 🙌
I love the grimace that Ryan demonstrates for us on each exercise. Once I see that in my garage gym mirror...I keep going, knowing pain and then gain is coming!
I'm 39 and started lifting for the first time since high school last month. (Good ol midlife crisis 😂). I love Ryan's videos. Any other lifting video I skip thru. I watch 100% of his tho because of the humor and humility.
“You should do it because it gives you energy” 🤣 that had me dying as most of my friends are like “you train in the gym so hard you should have more energy than all of us” smh… I’m thinking do one workout with me; just ONE and tell me how that energy formula works in your head.
Lmaoooo I relate it so much.
Sooooo true! 👊🏻💥👊🏻
Yeah unfortunately people don’t know how to work out that hard enough. So when you do it, that think you just have better “energy” or who knows.
yeah they say they feel energized after they work out. My answer is, im gonna go home, eat and take a long nap. im wiped.
This has always been me. I’ve always wondered what the fuck people talk about “more energy” and what not. I’m usually wiped out and in need of a nap after training!

Hello
1) Can I do light weight and build muscle? And how light should i go. I can do 40lb dumbbells chest, 30lb biceps, 45lb squats.
2) How many exercises, sets, reps i should do?
3) How much rest should i do between reps and sets?
4) How much cardio I should do a week?
5) I workout: Monday-chest/triceps/shoulder, Tuesday-back, biceps, legs, Wednesday-chest/triceps/shoulder, Thursday-back, biceps, legs.
Thank you
Congrats on the 1M Ryan. I've been riding with you since 100k. You're the reason i train differently and arent't stuck in the bro science of 8-10 reps and 3 sets.
I wouldn't call that "bro science". Lots of people have built very nice physiques using those set and rep ranges. It's all about intensity and progressive overload. Anyway, different strokes for different folks.
The 8-10, 3 sets is plenty fine for people just looking to stay in shape. Obviously, you won't be competing in any Mr. universe competitions with it. But it was more than plenty to get the bitches.
As a gas station employee I 100% agree with you 🤣
this dude not only spits beautiful facts but he makes us laugh our socks of in the process. Thank you Ryan. You are a giant for all of us!
I finished your 30 day full day gym and it was great! I did see a lot of progress and tried a bunch of new exercises.
I will be completing it again and see if I can improve with heavier weight.
Thanks again for the awesome videos. ❤️
Love the al bundy reference 4 tds in a single game! Congrats on the award
Saw that… awesome
Polk high!
I’m just here because I got that too
dude. that won the internet.
I was there Polk High 🤣
Love this guy! His personality is exactly what gets your attention !
Started watching your videos in like mid-May at 6'4" & 135lbs.. now, I'm just under 160lbs! Thanks, Ryan!
What? 6’4and 135 lbs? I was 80kgs and 6’4 when i started 80 kgs is 180lbs
@@TheUndertaker2408 yeah I basically didn't exists haha
It’s good to know I’m not the only one that savagely attacks my packages when they’re delivered. Seems I’m not very good at opening them carefully
You should get a girlfriend. Your savagely attacked package will thank you.
Not only that I savagely destroy and man handle / ruin any package or bag in the kitchen. Pisses my old lady off a bit.
Thanks for the wake-up-call. I needed it.
Ive got to admit I’ve always pushed myself since the first day of working out and always felt extremely tired i. The sense of i could easily pass out and catch some zzzs 🤣
But one of the best things is doing it early morning and carry on with my day knowing full well as soon as i go to bed I’m out like a light 💪
Only thing that got me out of my depression years back from a divorce was the anger i had toward the end, not the stupid drugs docs had me on that just made me useless. Im gona use the advise you just gave here on using anger to hit the weights harder. Thanks for this video and the no bullshit straight up sarcastic but effective advise bro
Ryan,
Man you are music to my ears. I love the down to earth no bullshit truth.
You are helping with my return to the weight room ( after 3 shoulder recos, one hip job, torn biceps tendon and oh… a kidney transplant)
So thanks dude, appreciate it.
From down under NZ.
Stay strong!
Totally agree. Obviously you know what you’re doing. Being middle-aged and training each body part every 4 to 5 days, I’m in the best shape I ever was in my life. Although it took many years of me working out just start seeing gains. How to get my form down intensity but I’m doing it.
Ive been lifting for 12 years, i gained 40 pounds naturally, i started doing gear after 8 only after i had not gained anything in over 2 years. The god honest truth is that if youve done everything you can naturally over 5-7 years, do at least one minimum dose cycle and never do it again. Youll have a permanent 10-15 lbs of gains and and very good permanent strength gains too. I was stuck at 175 forever, i looked good but it just wasnt big enough for me. I kept 10lbs after my first cycle, Im 200 now and i finally feel like this is where ive always wanted to be physically. One 8 week cycle on test prop with superdrol (or npp) will change your life forever. One test cycle has shown to improve athletic performance for 10+ years, theres no reason not to do it. Youre not gonna have left ventricular hypertrophy after one minimum dose cycle. Trust me i understand the concerns, but you will never even do 1/3rd the dosages these professional drug addicts do.
Thanks for the honesty man. It's pretty ironic that I am also a Nic stuck at 175 😂 but I plan on turning every stone on this planet for gains until I decide to start the juice. Been experimenting with natural ways to increase test and hgh like fasting and have managed to add a few pounds over the past couple years.
Thank you!! I knew I was doing something wrong! Thank you for pointing me in the right direction!! Empty The Tank!!❤ every time

His workouts are insane - in a good way. These are the hardest lifts I’ve ever done and really do get the mind-muscle connection. Spend the $20 and don’t back out when your first set is 100x2 :)
one hundred sets of two reps?
@@tylergoralski8728 i also don't get what he means by that
Two sets of 100 reps each

I used to train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu regularly (pre-pandemic & different job) and it's easy to give it your all when the alternative is being choked or joint locked into submission. Before BJJ I could train by myself with intensity, but now on the other side I have so much trouble being intense in my training without that external motivation.
Thanks for the encouragement.
Personally my favorite way to get motivated to work hard is music. I can go waaaaay harder if I've got the right music, and it also makes my workouts enjoyable in the moment, not just for the future gains.
Thanks Ryan - have terrible tinnitus that made me suicidal last year, and the only thing that gives me relief is lifting which helps me sleep better too. Thanks for you channel from 🇬🇧 UK
I caught COVID about a month ago and since then, I can’t push my self like I use to. I never had lung problems but I get tired so easily. It’s fckn frustrating seeing all your hard work you have put over the years disappear in front of your eyes.
Dude when I got covid, or when I got the shot it set me back up for weeks. Hella sucks because even if you want to do it your body ain’t gonna hold
@Seth Dean Same here...i live a normal life and refuse to wear a diaper on my face and will NEVER take the kill shot. Has flu like symptoms 3 times last two years and all only lasting a few days. Very mild. Have zero clue if it was scamdemic flu or not and couldn`t care less. Eat clean and take your vitamins to support the immune system and you have zero to fear.
I had the same issue. I just pushed myself to do my usual cardio routine and although it took nearly 2 months I feel like my breathing capacity and energy levels are back to where they were before I had it
@Seth Dean There are plenty of illnesses not everyone gets. Proves f*** all about anything.
“She threw away the whole costume and wore just the tail” 😂😂😂 yeah a good old heartbreak always gets her done!
