i hear he is a great teacher and true wing chun praactitioner who used to fight all the time in hong kong to prove WC effectiveness. i say that some of his movements in this vid arent too relaxed and flowing like they should be, but it could just be for the video. he is a true legend thats for sure
@gangstakurv Wong Shun Leung took out a Russian Boxer named GIKO in 1964 who towered over Sifu Wong Shun Leung, standing at over 6 feet and weighs 250lbs (113kg). 50 Air punches in the won't help. It only takes a couple to take a guy down.
The opening sequence is not from a movie -- it was made specifically for the video. One of the martial artists is an actor and the other is a stunt man. We wrote and directed this film back in 1982 for World Video...and we are still making videos...
i've seen someone demonstrate wing chun against a boxer who was much bigger than himself. the whole point of wing chun is that it doesn't rely on speed or strength. as long as you have good form, size shouldn't matter.
@Weston1968 That is very true. Wing Chun is very good at close range fighting which it was designed for, it was not designed for ground fighting. If you want to learn ground fighting learn BJJ.
A senior student did a thesis on the history of Wing Chun Kung Fu. It has been proven that the nun is a mythological story. A French doctor toured China many years ago & produced a large book. In that book he saw 4 places where they taught Wing Chun Kung Fu,,,, not one as has been told to date. All these old building have been destroyed over the years. I had the good fortune to train briefly with Wong Shun Lueng & my grand master William Chung, so I got to speak directly with those who know the facts better than anyone else
Its one of the better videos about wingchun. It explains the principles and methods of wingchun very good. The beginner-drills are shown very comprehensable as well. I missed the mentioning of the `connection to the earth´ (footwork and stances to uphold a mechanical-system with the ground), since this is the mainpoint of effectiveness in wingchun. What i would like to miss is the remark of bruce lee! Couldnt he be a chess-player or a violonist? His name holds to all fake-masters of wing chun.
@@فروخ-ن3د In my opinion it is completely up to you to express yourself freely. That whole "taking offense"-issue has gotten completely out of hand anyhow. I saw your first comment as somewhat odd yet humorous way of expression. If your initial/edited question was about the positional height of your fist during a punch to the nose or shoulder, then I would emphasize, that it rather depends on the context of the punching-situation! During the form, the fist in the 2nd set is positioned in front of the 'sternum' (center of the middle-line OR starting point of the centerline) and is driven forward by the elbow until the arm is fully stretched and the wrist snapped. The aiming position of that fist - that's what I learned in WT - should be at least higher than its starting point; preferably aiming the knuckle of the little finger(/pinky) towards the spot between the nose and the upper lip. Most important is to get an upward motion - which hinders you from developing a punching technique in which your fists would fall in the final steps of the movement of your arms. During a fight it naturally depends on the position your fist is already situated in and on the position of your opponents center.
@jimajim what we know about bruce lee is a stone in the middle of the ocean, he was a great filosofer, fighter, kung fu master and inspiration for all the human kind, a mind that wasnt even ocidental or oriental, a mind that was always learning something, dont talk bullshit, he wasnt just a hollywood actor
Stop arguing guys, like Bruce Lee said, styles are not important anymore. ALL STYLES ARE GOOD IF THEY ARE EFFECTIVE! And all styles if used INCORRECTLY will suck of course!
@bebo3ful close range fighting means like very near each other. if you have a lance, or a bow, would you call it close range? no, you call it long range. same with guns
@aminul1984 The easiest thing to remember is Wing Chun was designed by Women. If it helped a Women to develop power at short range then what could it do for a Man. As far as I am concerned it is the foremost art for close range fighting. I however believe that it is only an add-on & not a complete fighting system for modern self defence. But as an add-on it can only help to develop & refine other arts.
@super1commenter super all styles are good but win chun the wong way that is stuff Wong Shun Leung was undefeated, oh if you take into account the fact that his mate at the time Grandmaster william cheung took him out drinking the night before the match... think about that Wong Shun Leung was a legend
Wing Chun is fine by itself. Perhaps what you should have explored after working with your master is dynamic footwork. Very few WC masters teach dynamic footwork anymore. It took me looking into 4-5 masters from different lineages before I found one from a Pre Yip man lineage. His footwork is far more mobile yet rooted than what I've seen even coming out of Bruce Lee. Perhaps u should re-explore before u write wc off. And no WC is not a rigid fighting style.
@sahapoom1975 you do know thats just a training stance, appying it in the real world your stance is neutral. that just to strengthen the quads and caffs.
@prodgex Yeah, also, Bruce Lee was a philosophy major and a psychology minor, so he was very open minded and he was opinionated on issues especially martial arts.
he achieved a great deal & did so much to promote martial arts. Bruce Lee only trained with Yip man & the two senior students for 1 year at the time being Wong Shun Lueng & William Chung. Both smiled and said he was a bit arrogant... they ere trying to be polite
I don't understand how you guys say "close range fighting" apart from the difference in range between kicks and punches, aren't all arts fighting at 'close range' ? Aren't all arts just a 'fighting art' ?
@super1commenter yes agreed, but unfortunately martial arts are like religions to people, and they argue that there martial art is the best or this ones the best. and of course they will because thats there martial art and they need to justify this, the comparison would be like saying Christianity is better than Buddhism or Hinduism etc etc, and master Bruce knew this because he barely won the fight that the Chinese martial arts community sent to fight him to stop teaching the western world
@artpwnify I mean, Wing Chun stance is so gayest and fighting in rhythmic, so it is easy to attact Wing Chun just by skip the rhythm. I think it is good self defense for office girls who wear a straight skirt because of the creative stance fo Wing Chun.
lol square stance low hands and the general target is the opponents nose. and they even go on to say its "proven" to be one of the most practical self defense forms to date. come on that silly thought that all styles are equal is bullshit. this will get you killed against an opponent who knows how to box/kickbox/grapple.
@soundman420 So ur saying that a good WC fighter will get beat up by a pro boxer? kickboxer or grappler? Well if they are good then it will be a good match. Sifu Wong Shun Leung had over 100 fights and won mostly all of them using Wing Chun, and most of those fighters came from a different style. Don't disrespect Wing Chun because of your lack of knowledge, study it with a GOOD teacher and learn it PROPERLY, APPLY it then see if it's good or not.
This is the best Wing Chum documentary ever.
I really like old fashion choreographies

The Production seems like should be in a 70's Theatre.
i recon the slo mo realy helps to show the right way how to do the moves... that helps allot. i recon.
@Weston1968 That is very true. Wing Chun is very good at close range fighting which it was designed for, it was not designed for ground fighting. If you want to learn ground fighting learn BJJ.
@prodgex I respect wing chun and wong shun leung, a talented man. Wing chun is a very unique style compared to other chinese kung fu styles.
OMG!!! This so helps me understand how to spar better and train better for my class! I would like this 10 more times if I could. XD
wing chun is amazing. what i would give to meet ip man...
I watch at 2x speed for greater impact.
Man, that '70s soundtrack and sound effects...But great Kung Fu!

great video

I don't know if I'm alive or not, but should I have my fists at shoulder level when I punch my My shoulder or nose?

I have seen the bald guy in a chinese martial arts movie, but I just remember which one. is it The 36th Chamber of Shaolin
they were never made
RIP Wong Shun Leung
@vishwanathstorm
Yes I thought I was the only one, he is the monk that fights the main character to see if he's worthy enough to move up!
I dont know but i know another interesting wing chun movie called "Ipman" you might really like it unless you already know it.
The sounds are so fuuuckiiing faaaill!!
@super1commenter Many claps for this.
Wong Shun Leung has that fighter look in him, not some "kungfu show" like the recent wingchun guys.

thanks for posting this ;)
What is the name of the movie at the begining of this video. The wing chun exponent is Lee Hoi San
WC is the basic of Jeet kune do !!!
