Appropriate because the were literally making an exodus after Moses freed them.
Listened to this around the 35th kilometre of a marathon. Couldn’t feel my feet at that point and my quads were in major pain - But this song really made me dig my heels in: when I started marathon training I honestly didnt believe that I’d make it. 40km seemed crazy. But here I was 5km away from the finish, and I realized my belief had brought me up to this point. One full year of running almost 1800 km in total, and throughout that time I slowly began to believe in myself, and have faith in the fact that if I left it all out on the race course then it wouldn’t matter how long it would take for me to finish. Probably one of the most tunnel-vision kinda moments of my life, but this song was a huge part of that moment
Why should we wait for the end? This song marks the beginning of new hope, of complete faith in God and (although they did not know it) marked the beginning of extreme difficulties for the Israelites. I think we might be missing the point of the song if we're waiting for a 'better time' to blast it across the world. :)

I just watched this for the first time the other night and when the little girl started singing in Hebrew I completely LOST it. Children shouldn't have to be subjected to the horrors this movie portrayed, but to see them come out of it with more hope and joy than ever was so powerful. And to do it in a way that's historically accurate and culturally sensitive? I'm not religious in any way, but I can appreciate a masterpiece when I see one. Bravo, Dreamworks. Bravo.
Why not be religious. Our civilization is disconnected from all others, and to allow yourself to explore orthodox Christianity will absolutely blow your mind. It is truth, reality and makes skepticism seem so easily defeated. But you have to do it justice and study!
don't get me wrong, i like the mariah and whitney version i really do, but this version is more meaningful, more personal, than the other version mostly because of the hebrew lyrics that are being sung, but also the sense of victory and achevemnet that you hear in this version compared to other version! listening to this song after facing some sort of anti-semitism, helps me heal, and makes me remember that i am proud to be jewish! AND WOULDN'T GIVE UP MY JEWISHNESS FOR ANYTHING!
I hope you're okay, wherever you are. May you stay safe and strong out there. May you take care of yourself, and others, as much as you can. 1:11 Originally the lyrics in When You Believe were “You can do miracles” but they were changed to “There can be miracles when you believe” in order to not discourage people achieving miracles.
I am in a very dark place at the moment. Much of my believes are being shaken to their core after being exposed to so many "truths". It is funny, I never really expected this movie to stay with me like it has, but this song gives me hope. That there is a God who cares for me, that I am not alone, and that I will endure the dark times I am in. If there is anyone else out there who goes through the same, know that I am empathetic to your plight, but together with the help of our God we will endure it. I do my best to help others. Though it can hurt to see so many hurt themselves when they are capable of so much more. It gets hard to bear witness to the evil in this world, but it is even harder to not let it overcome you. Do not let it overcome you my friends. Do not allow your heart to harden. Let it be soft and gentle. Even if people will take and abuse it. Our God showed us that we cannot hope to live if we live only for ourselves. Live for each other, and love one another. Then maybe you will find that the world seems at least a little bit brighter than it was before.
Awww🥺❤ I teard up reading this thankyou because I'm in a dark place right now and I've thought of giving up(if you know what I mean) it's so hard to be strong when I'm going through insecurities, depression, and anxiety and just lost of hope.
I remember being so bored at my grandmas house. Typical little kid looking through her things and I found this movie tucked away on a cassette. I put it on hoping for some entertainment and was overjoyed when I saw it was a cartoon 😂 man, I can’t even explain how powerful the feeling was that overcame me that day. I watch this movie from time to time and always feel the sense of magic and power behind the story of Moses because of this movie here.
I hope you're okay, wherever you are. May you stay safe and strong out there. May you take care of yourself, and others, as much as you can. As a Messianic gentile this makes my heart happy. I watched it as a baby Christian and it still holds the same value. From child to adult this song has kept me.
I can’t even describe in words the beauty and power coming from this song…and the adorable and happiness of the little girl and children singing together is just so pure and beautiful. It really shows the joy that the Israelites must’ve felt at being freed from slavery. And then when everyone comes in and sings the chorus together….My gosh…It just…Words cannot describe the power, beauty, hope and emotion in it
The children singing is what gets me everytime. It's beautiful in its entirety but the children... gosh. Their singing sounds so joyful after so much pain, it's so powerful
To think that this happened in real life... Not talking about the whole god thing because that's debateable, but the slavery, the cruelty of the Egyptian sovereigns... To think that this happened for thousands of years and the people were stripped of their freedom... As a person living in this age, I cannot even begin to imagine the pain, the suffering, the torment. This movie really is a masterpiece for portraying history so perfectly.
Civilized society, as we think of it, is a precious exception in human history. Those who take the broadness of prosperity and large scale freedom for billions we have today for granted are fools, to be blunt.

Yes but the songs were written by Stephen Schwartz who is the composer of Wicked and co-wrote the music of Pocahontas, Hunchback of Notre Dame and Enchanted with Alan Menken.
Well there's a Broadway musical about the story of Joseph called Joseph and the Amazing Technicolored Dreamcoat, and there's Jesus Christ: Superstar, and those are both pretty biblical
This was one of my fav movies to watch as a kid, i never really realized it was about god. My family never took me to church, but i could watch this movie everyday i still have it on VHS from when i was little. It was nice it showed a man saving people and changed the way people saw them. Now i want to watch it again
I think adding in Hebrew was one of the best movies this movie could have made. Every time they start singing in Hebrew my heart is warmed. It's amazing to me that texts of those living in oppression survived this long and this extensively, and that we still tell the story all over the world. Salem!
I like how Miriam and Tzipporah are shown to be really close, they even sang this song together! And even in the ending, after hugging Moses, the next person Tzipporah hugged was Miriam.
My name is Jacob and I met with DreamWorks on this amazing film for the Israeli Folk Dance animation scenes. It was group of us and myself. This track "When You Believe" is no doubt my favorite. May God Bless you all and Keep you.

i watch this every year at least one for passover to honour my background since i am not religious but have connections etc....and this song never fails to make me cry, even more when the children start singing, it is so meaningful, especially since my cousins, who are jewish introduced this film to me and my sister, i am sad i couldnt watch it with them this year
ASHIRA, ASHIRA, ASHIRA! This was my mom's most favorite song in the film and it was definitely the one song that she loved to sing along to the most, when I hear this song and sing along to it I can hear Jesus speak to me and remind me that there really are such things as miracles even in times of pain and suffering, my mom believed it growing up as a Christian and now so do I. I know that there are miracles even during this time of confronting the Corona virus because I believe they're there and Jesus will help us to find them as we continue to try to know where to look. I think of my mom every time I hear and sing this song, and I know and believe that she is here just like the miracles Jesus has waiting for us. This is for you mom, and especially you Jesus my Lord and Savior from now until the end of time! ASHIRA, ASHIRA, ASHIRA!!!!!😄😄😄😄😄❤❤❤❤❤😇😇😇😇😇💖💖💖💖💖😃😃😃😃😃💗💗💗💗💗
CHORUS: There can be miracles when you believe Though hope is frail it's hard to kill Who knows what miracles you can achieve When you believe, somehow you will You will when you believe. VERSE 2: In this time of fear when prayer so often proved in vain Hope seemed like the summer birds Too swiftly flown away Yet now I'm standing here With heart so full I can't explain Seeking faith and speaking words I never thought I'd say. *REPEAT CHORUS^ *key change: There can be miracles when you believe Though hope is frail it's hard to kill Who knows what miracles you can achieve When you believe, somehow you will Now you will You will when you believe You will when you believe
This was always, always my favorite song from this movie. ... To those that are moved by the beauty of this song -- it is the Holy Spirit, don't ignore it or turn away from it -- embrace it. Listen to it ... listen to it whisper and call out to you from the annals of the very real but distant path that beckons from this song, urging you to seek Him out. ... The Hebrew in this song, it praises the Father! "Ashira Adonai Ki ga'oh ga'ah." -- I will sing to the Lord for He has triumphed gloriously. "Michamocha ba'elim Adonai" - Who is like You, Oh Lord, among the celestial. "Mikamocha nedar bakodesh" - Who is like You, majestic in holiness. "Nachitah v'chas d'cha am zu galata" - In Your love, You lead the people you redeemed. "Ashira, ashira, ashira" - I will sing, I will sing, I will sing.
V Hammond I am moved by the beauty of this song. I’m also moved by the beauty of Wagner’s operas and Strauss’s Four Last Songs. I’d like to believe that’s not the spirits of Nazism and anti-semitism urging me to seek them out. Beautiful music has its own power.
I only listen to the film's version( I'm not into those ''ya~~~hmmm'' stuff in another version). You don't need to perform too many singing skills to make a song sound great. It's the meaning of it that touches your soul.
Not only is this movie so great with all these powerful songs but it brings people together as well. We can all connect through our emotions. I find it really enjoyable to watch this movie with loved ones.
I will sing to the lord for he has triumphed gloriously, Who is like You, oh Lord, among the celestial, Who is like You, majestic in holiness, In Your Love, You lead the people You redeemed.
This song is such an inspiration!! It doesn't matter if you believe in a God or not , aslong as we people believe in ourselfs we can achieve more❤️ It doesn't matter what religion or beliefs we have , we are all ONE!! Spread peace and the world becomes a better place ✌🏽️ Big respect to Hans Zimmer for making such beautiful music , he's a true genius
Don't forget Stephen Schwartz since he wrote the songs and he had Zimmer's help. Other than that, I agree. I don't really go to church on Sunday mornings like I used to but I do appreciate my religion.
This song is about believing from within, like once you believe from within, you can find true freedom from yourself. It’s that path that you can find true love. Love of world, love of life, just love all around. This is what ballads were all about in 90s and 00s. We can’t find that any more. Powerful ballads is what people need more now, just something to hold onto. It wasn’t that important then because life was so positive and happy then, we took granted these songs, we need it more now.
Listening to this while on the bus and totally forgot about the part with the little kids singing. Literally yelled out "nope" and had to skip to the next song to stop myself from tearing up and embarrassing myself in public. 😅😂 Will replay it when I get home in a sec though. Need a good cry!
As someone who has always had a hard time believing, in God but also in many other things, this song always gives me chills and could almost make me cry if I let myself. A masterpiece
This song is pure genius. Lightning in a bottle. You can feel all of it. The hardship the hebrews faced as slaves, the pain Moses feels for what he and God just did to his own brother. Then, hope. New beginnings and the unknown as yes, here they are. Free, at last. When so few of them had dared to even dream of it. A new life, a new beginning, far from whips and oppression. First the playful children, leading their disheartened parents, because they havn't yet suffured a life of slavery and hardship. Then men, women, everyone, joining the youth in a glorious and joyful song to celebrate freedom and the hapiness, the closure it brought and will bring them, the voice of a people. The goosebumps, I swear...
this year I was in my first high school musical in my junior year. There were tons of traditions that the group had and one of them was that we all stood in a circle holding hands and singing this song. We had our closing night a few nights ago and we had to say goodbye to so many incredible seniors and our incredible show. Even though I haven't been involved with this specific theater group until now, hearing everyone's emotion and connection to each other while singing this song was so beautiful. I cried a whole lot that day lol
I love every song an everything this stands for I love Jesus an Jehovah Jehovah means rebirth but god will be whatever he needs to be in our time of need

Through a personal relationship with our God, eternal life can be given us all.
Through Christ, all if all be willing shall be saved.
May God bless you my friend, Samuel.

BELIEVE!
Many nights we've prayed.
With no proof anyone could hear.
In our hearts a hopeful song
We barely understood,
Now we are not afraid
Although we know there's much to fear
We were moving mountains
Long before we knew we could...
*Chorus*
There can be miracles
When you believe
Though hope is frail
It's hard to kill
Who knows what miracles
You can achieve
When you believe
Somehow you will
You will when you believe
In this time of fear
When prayer so often proved in vain
Hope seemed like the summer birds
Too swiftly flown away
Yet now I'm standing here
With heart so full I can't explain
Seeking faith and speaking words
I never thought I'd say
*Chorus*
There can be miracles
When you believe
Though hope is frail
Its hard to kill
Who knows what miracles
You can achieve

Somehow you will

By far
It's from the Exodus, Chapter 15. It's something like:
I will sing to the Lord for he has triumphed greatly
I will sing to the Lord for he has triumphed greatly
Who is like You, O Lord among the gods.
Who is like You, glorious in holiness.
In Your loving kindness and guidance you
redeemed this people.
I will sing, I will sing, I will sing.

That's inspiring bro
When the crisis gripping our world finally comes to an end, I think this song will be played all over the world.
This and many more
It absolutely should be played.
Why should we wait for the end? This song marks the beginning of new hope, of complete faith in God and (although they did not know it) marked the beginning of extreme difficulties for the Israelites. I think we might be missing the point of the song if we're waiting for a 'better time' to blast it across the world. :)

that little girls voice pierces though every layer of emotional defense you have and reachs you.
Bravo.
A masterpiece! I remember seeing this in the movies and being blown away.
I loved that they gave the children that beautiful moment❤
Why not be religious. Our civilization is disconnected from all others, and to allow yourself to explore orthodox Christianity will absolutely blow your mind. It is truth, reality and makes skepticism seem so easily defeated. But you have to do it justice and study!

don't get me wrong, i like the mariah and whitney version i really do, but this version is more meaningful, more personal, than the other version mostly because of the hebrew lyrics that are being sung, but also the sense of victory and achevemnet that you hear in this version compared to other version!

1:11 Originally the lyrics in When You Believe were “You can do miracles” but they were changed to “There can be miracles when you believe” in order to not discourage people achieving miracles.
Such a powerful song. I literally get chills during the crescendo at the end.
Amen, amen, amen!!!
Yes especially during this period, we need to Unite as one and be aware of whats to come!!
Thank you, God bless you :')

The children are mainly singing "I will sing unto The Lord" (god, Jahweh, etc).
And, "There is no one like you among the heavens."
"I will sing unto the Lord, for He has triumph gloriously. Horse and rider, he haw thrown into the sea." Beautiful.

I can’t even describe in words the beauty and power coming from this song…and the adorable and happiness of the little girl and children singing together is just so pure and beautiful. It really shows the joy that the Israelites must’ve felt at being freed from slavery. And then when everyone comes in and sings the chorus together….My gosh…It just…Words cannot describe the power, beauty, hope and emotion in it
I always cry hearing this song, a true masterpiece. 😢😢

That moment ALWAYS sends goosebumps all over my body. The way they all sing together as one is so powerful and epic.
I saw this movie a few days ago...Why does the music have to be so freaking BEAUTIFUL!!!! The whole movie in general, but dang son...!
+No Hesitation The music was composed by Hans Zimmer, the guy who scored Lion King, so of course it's amazing.
Yes but the songs were written by Stephen Schwartz who is the composer of Wicked and co-wrote the music of Pocahontas, Hunchback of Notre Dame and Enchanted with Alan Menken.
This song reminds me of my favorite student teacher in music class it makes me sad and leaves me in tears 😭😭😭😭😭
Why hasn't this turned to a Broadway musical again? This should be a Broadway musical or at least try.
I totally agree! This music is absolutely beautiful and the story is great.
Wednesday Adams Yahiko25 I was just thinking the same thing! It would be spectacular on stage.
I dunno... Too Biblical?
Well there's a Broadway musical about the story of Joseph called Joseph and the Amazing Technicolored Dreamcoat, and there's Jesus Christ: Superstar, and those are both pretty biblical
+Yahiko25 Too hard to stage. Especially with the river at the beginning, the plagues, the slaves working, the Red Sea, etc.
Salem!
2:59 gets me everytime. chills.
Moses wrote the song of the sea
I like how Miriam and Tzipporah are shown to be really close, they even sang this song together! And even in the ending, after hugging Moses, the next person Tzipporah hugged was Miriam.

I know that there are miracles even during this time of confronting the Corona virus because I believe they're there and Jesus will help us to find them as we continue to try to know where to look. I think of my mom every time I hear and sing this song, and I know and believe that she is here just like the miracles Jesus has waiting for us.
Love this song, so love the movie. I always tear up when I listen to this song, it really moves me.
This song is so powerful and so beautiful.. everyone in the comments is being so nice I could cry! 💕🥺
Out of the whole movie, this is my favorite song! Glory to God!
I will sing to the lord for he has triumphed gloriously,
Who is like You, oh Lord, among the celestial,
Who is like You, majestic in holiness,
In Your Love, You lead the people You redeemed.
This song is such an inspiration!! It doesn't matter if you believe in a God or not , aslong as we people believe in ourselfs we can achieve more❤️ It doesn't matter what religion or beliefs we have , we are all ONE!! Spread peace and the world becomes a better place ✌🏽️
Big respect to Hans Zimmer for making such beautiful music , he's a true genius
Don't forget Stephen Schwartz since he wrote the songs and he had Zimmer's help. Other than that, I agree. I don't really go to church on Sunday mornings like I used to but I do appreciate my religion.
“... NOW you will.” 🙏
This song is about believing from within, like once you believe from within, you can find true freedom from yourself.

The cadence in this song is the deal! "There can be miracles when you belive. though hope is frail, it's hard to kill" chilly bumps every time.
