Having owned both personally I can assure you that both are absolutely amazing cars. Each one is superb in its own way so guys just appreciate each one for what it is and stop arguing. At the end of the day if you have either of these cars (or any other car for that matter) you should be happy with it and shouldn’t care what a random person might think about your choice.

@@cazantrabant519 The internals of the EA888.3 TSI are forged aluminum if I remember correctly. Hence as to the capabilities and performance you get with little to no mods these cars. But yes upgrading the forged internals for some that are capable of higher horsepower than 550bhp which is the breaking point of the stock block with how it comes from factory is necessary for pushing more whp. With stock internals, these cars can push pretty much 450-500whp.
I own M2 stage 2 and man that golf doesn’t give up that easy.

The VW and the GOLF R are the best one in their classes and cost range. But, some things must be said: 1) the M2 has bigger engine + 2 Turbos and more HP/torque (stock), therefore has natural advantage over the R, I imagine that even tuned both cars will have a 100Hp-ish difference in power and, smaller, but in torque too. 2) the R was chasing it not by a far distance (rolling) and launched ahead on the drag race, 3) the R is better ROi given it's cost and performance per buck.
The m2 has only 1 turbo - its a n55 single turbo and not s55 competition

Depends on the tune. You can have a tune making 450hp in the bmw and the Golf can make the same. Or you can have a weak ots tune making 400hp. Not all tunes are the same, you can have a very big difference just switching tunes

You can get an e85 stage 3+ mk7 golf R for the price of a stock m2. That’s just the price but you also look at the performance and it’s shockingly close. The golf r is the sportiest model of a family economy hatchback vs the sportiest model of an already sporty line of coupes. The golf r is down two cylinders, a turbo and a liter of displacement and is keeping up decently.

Unless you actually want to hit the track, then a Golf R is going to be the better choice. Lighter, AWD, and the bigger brother to the 3rd fastest hatchback around the Nurburgring. Sure, oversteer is fun, but some people find more enjoyment in getting around the track faster with better traction.

I would like to see the tuned HP of both cars so I could calculate the HP per litre ratio. I suspect the 2 litre car is punching well above its weight & that the 3 litre car is definitely not producing 50% more power than the 2 litre. The 3 litre will probably last a lot longer though!
Idk man, these 2.0 TSI's seem to be pretty damn reliable. What's the 3 liter? I6? If so, I'd put my money on it outlasting the 2.0 TSI. If it's anything else, my money's on the TSI. The only engine I'd take from BMW is an I6. Everything else from them seems to be subpar when it comes to reliability.
I m a motorcycle guy , but if i were to take one of these 2 , I would take the GOLF R because it comes with factory fitter shoulder checks and indicators.

Guys many of you don‘t understand anything. This is an m2 n55 they don‘t have a lot potential for tuning. Stage 2 on the m2 should be at 400-430hp not more. Take an m2 competition and tune it to stage 2. it would be twice as fast as the golf

BMW DCTs somehow shift and engage slower than VAG’s DSG/S-Tronic/PDK. Drove a Z4 35i and S5 back to back and the Audi shifted lightning quick compared to the BMW. The longer gearing of the BMW M2 here doesn’t help either.

Haldex car are FWD bias, only time the Haldex clutches are engaged is launch and when the fronts experience slip, the gen 5 is reported to be preemptive but who knows. So when rolling it’s actually more like RWD vs FWD.

People don't realize, other than from a dig, an IS38 swapped GTI is faster than an R due to less weight and drivetrain loss. IS38 and an R tune means you have the same engine minus some beefed up internals.

Interesting run. Stages don't mean much, is a general term. What's the hp that the cars have? If the golf used meth as bmw, it would probably be faster. That 2.0 tsi is a beast.
Stages give you a general idea, but you have to look into what each stage brings you to, in terms of power, for each car. For example, Stage 1 for a GTI is around 320hp give or take. Stage 2 is around 400 give or take. Not sure for the Golf R, because I haven't looked into that. Only looked into the GTI stuff because I have one. But I'm a fan of talking power figures instead of stages too. But the whole stage thing is nice when you're trying to give a quick explanation of what you've done to the car to someone else who's familiar with that platform. Other than that it's just an unneeded layer of extra complication.

So assuming that a stage 2 M2 BMW ( 440-450 hp) has 40-50 hp more than a stage 2 GOLF R (around 400) and in addition to that, the BMW runs %10 eth, we can rightly claim that a stage 3 GOLF R (around 450 hp) with 10% eth, could easily smoke the BMW. No doubt the 3.0 l inline 6 is a great engine, but the triple 8, given the size and the fact it has just 4 cylinders is a true beast. I Iove that engine.
