Installing RailPro Controls in a Large Scale Bachmann DASH 9

  • Well, this is certainly a new one for me! One of my viewers asked about installing RailPro electronics in some of his large scale models, and since he was willing to provide the controls for testing, I figured I'd give it a shot! I don't know if I did everything quite right in here, but it all seems to be working fine! I ended up doing this on my dining room table since the workbench doesn't have enough room for this kind of project.

    I have never been into model trains but I found your channel for relaxation. I like asmr and for some reason this is just so relaxing even though it isn't asmr, but it works the same for me. You're awesome

    Just saw this and recall that one should avoid looking into how laws and sausages are made. Thanks for the good work.

    Ive been looking into railpro for awhile and honestly i think its one of the best dcc systems out there. Once i start my layout im going to go with it. Honestly the sounds can be easily fixed since you can add your own sound files. With the locomotives communication between one another and temperature monitoring, no need for speed matching. Honestly i dont think it can be beat

    Great work as Always Darth! I've always throught modelling in this scale would be fun, but man it must take up an entire backyard! (PS: You're at 5.99k Subs, only around 10 to go!)

      Or at least a large barn or open basement! I think I’ll stick with HO myself, but working on something else now and then keeps things interesting.

      @@DarthSantaFe Depending on the size of the house, you might only get a loop in! (PS. Do you know what Hobbytowns bearings are made of? I got an RSD-5 and found out it doesn't have any of its Axle Bearings! I would assume copper?)

      @@RocketStephen618 The bearings are made from bronze. If it's an old one with the plastic wheels on one side of each truck, then the bearings will be half-circles that drop into the slots and the axles rest in them, and I've replicated those before by grinding the top off of brass tubing. Any others newer than that should have the square flanged bearings, and you can get those from Hobbytown: hobbytownofboston.com/

      @@DarthSantaFe Got it! It is one of the older ones, as the "worm" gear still has both of its bearings. Makes me wonder if the person who had it before had binding and instead of filing the slots down just decided to remove the bearings. Thank you for the help!

    Were you able to operate the smoke with it wired using the common and +voltage?

      Sorry, I’m not sure. I gave the model back after finishing the video, and I don’t think the owner actually uses the smoke units.

    Where did you get the wheel rollers from?

    • @DarthSantaFe
      @DarthSantaFe  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The owner of the models provided them since I didn’t have a place to test these. They’re made by Bachmann.

    Railpro sounds terrible.

      I have yet to hear any sound system that can match my Pioneer towers, so my own trains will remain sound-free until someone can make something at least that good. :)

      @@DarthSantaFe what pioneer towers?You talking about stereo speakers?

    • @DarthSantaFe
      @DarthSantaFe  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@cato12 They're Pioneer SP-FS52 floor standing towers. Hooked up to a rebuilt Sansui stereo from the 70's, and the sound quality is better than a lot of systems I've heard that cost 5x more!
