Here you will learn what a function is in math, the definition of a function, and why they are important.
Functions have applications in algebra, calculus, science, and engineering. We first begin by describing a function as a mathematical machine that takes input numbers "x" and computes output numbers "f(x)".
We then describe the input numbers "x" as being the domain of the function, while the output numbers f(x) are the range of the function. We will plot several functions including linear functions, quadratic functions, cubic functions, and more.

Life & Family soon became my Priority and I never got into Calculus. So, I figured I did pretty good thus far...how hard could it be? Ha...Calculus is Humbling! Especially if your on your own. Everything always started off with "Function of X"...WTF is that!? Why do they always start off like you already know what that is? Now I know and feel like I can now move forwards :) Your Explanation of the various "Functions of X" is well done and quite Informative too!!!

I had a Russian teacher who did not care to take the time to explain this technique as you did, and my class could not understand through her thick Russian Accent, omg I wish I could have had you as a teacher to explain to us. It would have made a big difference. Now that I understand your concept it makes understanding this so easy. thank you so much Math Science. Your the greatest and you broke this down to us

@@mervismakasi779 think of a function as a method lets say y=x here y is a triangle and x is gonna represent the sides of triangle. So here function is like a machine which is saying that this condition results in x. Fx=x means function of x=x meaning that fx=y as y=x so does fx =x the only difference here is that fx is said as function of x which is equal to y as y equals x .

This may sound trivial or hair-splitting, but I'd prefer to hear, "A function is a machine that USES values of x to generate y." I think students will relate to that quicker than most other phraseology. In other words, plug in a value of x and the function spits out a value of y. You did a good job. It was lots better than Mr. Bloom the freak who pretended to teach us Calculus 101 & 102 did.

Im relearning math thanks to some videos that set me back on which paths to take, and I am visiting functions; these explanations are clear, and his love for the art is amazing. I appreciate how you "summarized" each "f" of various "x"s (x^2, x^3, x^4, 1/x, |x|, and sin(x)) it was very useful to grasp the visual concept of what each one looked like.
