    Absolutely beautiful jackets. Thank you for doing a thorough review on your jackets and hood, it is helpful as I just ordered my first Barbour Beadnell Waxed jacket and hope to hold on to it for years to come! The review of the hood is helpful as well and I will be ordering it to go with my new jacket. Thank you!

    Great jackets...I've owned these for years and other Barbours.
    Just being picky, but even though it's spelt Bedale, it's pronounced 'Beeedale'
    Glad to see people over the pond appreciating an amazing British brand. 🇬🇧

    I was fortunate enough to find a store that had these jackets and I gotta say wow! Just looking at pictures or videos doesn´t do justice, unlike most brand jackets it actually feels justified to spend a fair ammount of money on this jacket. For me the Beaufort feels right for me, I strongly prefer that easy to access inside zipper pocket instead of that velcro on the Bedale and the large back pocket will come very handy.

      Nefus1988 great jacket. there is no other jacket in the world like the Beaufort. in fact if there was one jacket I could wear for the rest of my life the Beaufort would be it. it works from wet snowing freezing windy weather to warm summer rain showers. Enjoy.

    The lining now (2022) is a more modern tartan, larger print. My brother bought a Beaufort 30 years ago. It only expired recently, so he got another one. The Beaufort is one of the very few Barbour jackets made in England. If it is not written Made in England on the neck label, then it is made in China , Turkey or Romania.

  • @puma1304
    @puma1304 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I am the same height as you are, but for me even the Beaufort is too short (arms also) I would prefer it longer, like my DIY waxed navy smock I use for fishing. I would also welcome some thoughts about the design of the collar and frontal neck piece which should be roomier in order to accommodate something like a heavy wool scarf or a turtle neck Irish fisherman´s sweater... the cover of the collar could perhaps also benefit from another type of fabric than corduroy, which could be better suited for extreme climate. A hood for $45 ??? at this price I would expect a better collar design (as mentioned)!! Interior pockets are a must, and true wool tartan also, better if it is also your clan´s tartan... longer arms and a better cuff closing system are also on my list. These jackets are a classic and it is not advisable to change too much, so improvements should respect the original design and concept. So its up to the manufacturer to see if these recommendations are feasible. I love these jackets, after sweating and freezing for years inside Gore-Tex & friends, I am totally into waxed cotton and wool... greetings from wild, wet, windy and wonderful Western Patagonia

    I believe Barbour repair 1 owner jackets that are 50 or more years old. I’ve had several of their jackets. Several because I’ve out grown the early ones. Had my Beaufort repaired and re waxed after c.30 or so years wear. Only downside is returns in the U.K. can take 2 or 3 months to arrive back. If repairing, best sending off in summer time. In days gone by, detachable hood was included. Now a separate purchase. A traditional product that doesn’t date.

      I have never seen a Blackwatch tartan zip in liner vest. The older A1xx wax coats used snap in liners and back then all the snap in liner vests were the acrylic/furry/fleece gilets. The newer A322 Modern Tartan black coloured wax Bedale/Beaufort does indeed have a matching Modern Tartan liner gilet that zips in. I have an ashby S that fits me perfectly even with a dress underneath, the chest is 92/93 cm so the 34 would be fine but I'm afraid that the sleeve is short. I saw a table that says that between 34 and 36 only the chest circumference changes but the sleeve length is the same. I don't know what to do ... ..can you help me? If a small Ashby fits you perfectly then I suspect that a 34 Beaufort will fit you well if you intend to wear it the same way. If you intend to wear more layers and if you want to wear it with a liner in as well then a 34 may end up quite snug.

    • @tripreed
      @tripreed 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The "Classic" version comes in Olive color, which is different than the normal/traditional Sage color. The Classic also uses a lighter weight waxed cotton called Sylkoil while the normal version used a slightly heavier material called Thornproof. In the video, his Beaufort and Bedale are both the normal thornproof version, while the other jacket that he holds up at 3:00 is a Classic version (you can tell because the Classic has a different interior tartan).

      I've had both these jackets for well over 10 years and the dress gordon lining is clean as the day I got them. Albeit I sparingly wear them in normal urban/suburban fall/winter/spring conditions during a part of the year. If you find your lining is dirty or smelly Barbour can easily clean it or replace it for a small fee.

    There's one thing that most people are unaware of .
    The Bedales sold on the Barbour website can be different to others sold in shops .
    My New with tags bedale i bought off of ebay , had no ribbed inner sleaves or the studs to attach a hood .
    ( thinking i had a clone/ fake )
    After speaking to barbour , checking the🎉 authenticity, barcodes, and numbers on the label , i was told some jackets are made for retail .
    (In other words, they have a lower spec )
    Im not sure if retail is just meant to those sold in the UK or other countries.

    • @olaf2046

      Yeah I agree the original sage green over the dress Gordon is a much brighter green than the darker ivy green on the new ancient tartan. The only place you can source an A150 and A100 is on the eBay USA or eBay UK websites. The UK eBay always have several of these older jackets usually in mint condition for super cheap (under $100) but not many sellers may want to ship to the USA or if they do then shipping will be around $30 usd

    Olaf, you can get the coat rewaxed in NYC? Or are you saying sending from NYC to North Carolina takes two weeks (NC being where Barbour says to send)?

      Yes. In NYC Orvis for $45 will ship your jackets to a site in New Hampshire. It takes 2 to 3 weeks during the summer months when everyone forgot they have a Barbour jacket in their closet (May to Sept). However it can take 3 to 6 weeks during the peak seasons when everyone realizes their jackets need re-waxing and cleaning (Sept to April)

      I believe the Barbour USA website and actual NYC Soho Barbour store may use a different site for the rewaxing. Unless NC is the new site and NH is no longer used. I haven't rewaxed my coats this season as yet.

    I've always wondered, what is the art behind you? Do you know the artist? Seen this video a lot and my eyes are always drawn to it

    Hi mate, I know this is an old video now so might not get a reply. but would you say the bedale is a slightly tighter fit or could you fit a jumper/sweater underneath still? Thanks.

      Hi MJ! I'm still here. LOL. The Bedale is oversized and not a slim fitted jacket. It is actually meant to be sized to take a formal dress shirt and thick wool sweater worn together underneath. I'm 5'8" tall and 160 lbs and have a C38 Bedale that fits me with space for sweaters.

      @0LAF2046 Hi Olaf, thanks for the info, I'm still deciding between either the bedale or the ashby. I'm just over 6ft so i think the slightly longer ashby would benefit more... just wish it had the cuffs on the sleeves like the bedale haha.

    So you wear a Bedale in 36 and a Beaufort in 38 ?
