  • Dock shooting crappie is very popular and an effective method for catching a mess. Its does however take some practice as G3 Sportsman Scott Turnage finds out early on. The guys are on Missouri's Lake Of The Ozarks, the trees are turning gold and the crappie are tucked under the deep water docks just daring them to try and shoot jigs through their narrow passageways boobytrapped with chains, hoses, floats, cables and angle iron. Sounds easy enough. Todays guest is old friend Shane Long. A bass angler who is just as happy crappie fishing and enjoys watching a first time dock shooter have some struggles. Frustrations, aggravations and jubilation are in store. Hope you like it.

Been using that method for 65 years Scott only it wasn't doc shooting back then. It was out smarting the fish. Didn't have the docks on the Muddy Muskingum River to fish but we did have over hanging limbs to get a line under and it worked great. Thanks for sharing with us , stay safe out there and watch for those angry folks who will call the cops cause you trespassed getting on their dock. Enjoyed the video. Fred.

Dock shooting reminds me of golf. I don’t do either!😂

Scott, Try getting two cement blocks and a ladder ….lay ladder horizontal on top of blocks on each end. Practice shooting under ladder…Practice is the key! Repetition. Another key is have 3 or 4 setups ( all the same rod& reel ) rigged and ready to go. Helpful to use the same set ups for dock shooting, so everything has the same feel. I have found 1/32 oz. & 1/24 oz. Jigs best for dock shooting. Rob in Texas

lol you had me laughing a few different times, Scott. I picked up “dock shooting“ about five years ago on Lanier. You would think I’m good, but I only crappie fish three or four times a year, but have gotten better over time. Lol
I can’t believe Thanksgiving will be here before you know it. God bless!

Nice video, very entertaining and I learned a bit from watching. Would you tell me which boat ramp that you used? I am coming there for the first time this fall, I am wondering about winter draw down and if some ramps are unuseable.

Interesting technique 👌 I haven't seen this although I'm sure many have. Another tool to use.

Next time you're on Grand, dock shooting is the ticket many times during the year. As long as you keep that hook outta your finger, it's a win!

What part of the lake are you guys on? I'm assuming closer to Truman Lake. Great video Scott!

I love mine just got a 6.6 one piece rod. I have the 6 ft 2 piece but like the one piece rod better. The 8 footer is one of my favorite along with my 11 footer! 👍🎣
