Ahmed Bayjoo was a guy who worked for Ford mtorsport and a freelance tuner. He worked in conjunction with Harvey Gibbs of SCS in Peterborough on many projects. I used to have his chip on my RS Turbos back in the day. Ahmed sadly died a few years ago. Car looks great good luck with the resto.
Thanks for the comment Gary and the information, much appreciated. Good to know you think the Sierra is a decent car - please do stay tuned for progress. Thanks for watching.
@@cornishcarcollectors Lovely car and looking forward to future content. I think you stole thar car but I'm so envious and will definitely be following you from now on. Good luck 👍
Thanks for the comment Steve, it is great to know you like the Sierra. When you get chance take a watch of the updates on the car... you'll see I go a lot further than originally planned! Hope you enjoy the videos and stay tuned to my Channel, I appreciate it. Look forward to hearing from you on some of my other and future videos.
The algorithm brought me here and love these cars, as well as Volvo cars of this era. They're wonderful and I hope you can give it the love, care and attention that it deserves.
Thanks for the comment and for taking a look at my Channel, it is appreciated. Good to know you like the Sierra, please do stay tuned to see the progress updates. Thanks for watching.
Your video popped up in my feed and I just watched it in full. I really enjoyed it. This was my dream car many moons ago, before I even passed my driving test. Wish you well with your project. I’ll be following. Thanks.
Thanks for the comment, I really appreciate the feedback on the video and the Sierra. My dream car too and I feel very fortunate to own one, albeit I imagine it is going to cost me lots! Thanks for staying tuned to follow the process, I hope to hear from you again.
Thanks for the comment Chris, really appreciate the sub. Glad you like the Sierra - do stay tuned as I will feature the good, the bad and the ugly on the restoration. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the comment Adam, really appreciate it. I have been following your Sapphire build and enjoying it - I'm really glad you got in touch. Give me a shout if you do need any particular bits as I'd be glad to help out and hope you stay tuned for the updates on the Sapphire. Keep up the good work Fella and hope to hear from you again. Who knows, when these Sapphires of ours are done, maybe we can meet up as they both originate from Scotland and both needed saving... might make a nice video! Cheers for watching.
I follow your channel Adam and have really enjoyed your series on the white sapphire cozzy you have rescued. Always great content on your channel mate 👊
Thanks for the comment and advice, much appreciated. My restoration of the Sierra is now underway and I'll post an update soon so hope you stay tuned to see the progress. Thanks for watching.
I came across your video by chance but really enjoyed it. It was very nostalgic for me as I was the Sales Manager in Dalblair of Ayr back then and worked there for many years. That car would not have originated there but may have been sold second hand although many RS owners ordered number plates from us at the time as they liked the look, they were a little bit different. Good luck with the restoration, I'm sure it's going to be terrific. They really were brilliant.
Thanks for the comment, it is really good to hear from someone who worked at Dalblair of Ayr. I will certainly be keeping the numberplate, albeit new ones have been ordered as part of the restoration. Really hope you stay tuned to see how the Sierra turned out, thanks so much for watching and getting in touch.
Just came across this - great video and great value. I remember test driving a friends one in mint condition , loved beyond measure. He wanted 5k and I thought that was steep so went with an evo instead. Have regretted it ever since. Fascinating content will subscribe as I am sure you will of sorted the issues by now
Thank so much for the comment and for subscribing, it is great to know people are still discovering this video and you can follow the restoration over the next seven videos... be sure to watch them in order! 😂 Hope you enjoy my other cars and content too, and I look forward to hearing from you on some of the other videos.
The can looking thing is for the crank case pressure to vent when you constantly use excessive boost. Then you can drain the cooled down gasses that form a liquid. 👍
@@therealsidschuster3180 can't be full if its piped back to the sump? Its a 2 inlet 1 outlet can not a 2 inlet with a drain cock on the bottom... that can has a lower pipe thats piped back to the sump...its constantly drains and as such cant fill up
I've fitted these and removed them for a similar issue, the catch cans allow liquid oil to return, but they do get full with a thick emulsion, over time, if it was just fitted and left it will most likely be full. If theres a clear piece of tube on one side thats the indicator level, but trust me they do fill up!
I never forget my trip to Blackpool in the late 90s there were 20 of us going in 4 cars and it turns out my lift was a tuned up Sierra cosworth, we were in Blackpool in 1hr 5 mins coming from pontefract…I was shaking when we got there and had to change my pants..I’ve never forgot the sound of the dump valve, beautiful
What a find! I remember getting a buzz out of looking at my friend's dad's speedo and seeing 170 on the clock - felt the same emotion when you showed the picture of yours. I think it's my favourite car from my childhood. I need one too! :)
Thanks for the comment - glad it brought back some memories! This was my childhood dream car and I do feel lucky to have one, albeit I am not so sure how lucky I'll feel by the end of the restoration! Please do stay tuned to see the progress and thanks for watching.
We just put our mk1 xr4x4 back on road after 20 years. Engine hasn't been apart, just a good service, and replaced fuel pressure regulator o ring... it's had a very minor recommissioning. Done 1700 miles since end of May with no issues...and achieved 30mpg on a longer run sitting at 70-75 mph...
Thanks for the comment - good to read about your recommissioning of the XR4x4 (brilliant car). Stay tuned to see the progress on this Sapphire. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the comment. I really appreciate you watching and glad you enjoyed it. Thanks also for staying tuned - I will post an update soon, and in the meantime if you like Fords then check out a few of my other videos. Look forward to hearing from you again in the future.
Thanks for the comment and appreciate the information. I am really glad to have bought the car, but lots to do so please do stay tuned as I'll try to feature it all. Thanks for watching.
watching this as just relighted my desire to own a Sapphire Cosworth, also must say your a legend driving it all the way back from Scotland because its probably the best way to get to know your new Cossie, all the best with restoring the car
Thanks for the comment. I ruled myself out of ever owning a Sierra Cosworth a few years ago, but as you say something can reignite the need and I was fortunate to find this one. Stay tuned for the next Sierra update as the restoration has gone way further than originally planned! Thanks for watching.
Lovely classic car 😊. Reminds me back in my days when I owned my Renault 5 GT turbo, we were forever going to car meet ups around the UK. The good old days 💕
Thanks for the comment, really glad you enjoyed the video. Hope you stay tuned to the Channel as it’s not all Ford (albeit we are having a bit of a run on Fords at the moment!). Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the comment and advice. I have seen the horror stories regarding failing fuel pressure regulators - I will certainly be replacing mine. Glad you like my Fords, thank you for watching.
Thanks for the comment, I appreciate you staying tuned for the restoration... I'll have an update out soon. I do feature some other manufacturers here on the Channel, so hope you find other videos of interest. Thanks for watching.
lovely colour, and beautiful car, one of my dream projects, first time I saw a sierra cosworth it was the rwd model. I was about 14 waiting with my friends to be picked up by one of our parents, we were kind of in an industrial area and this thing came rumbling along, the guy must have seen 3 of us with our jaws open in awe, and he went round this roundabout got the backend out, and I just remember the noise, and this monster going sideways up the road with fire coming out of the exhaust. Instantly fell in love with cossies! Anyway great video I enjoyed it a lot
Thanks for the comment, I really appreciate the feedback on the video. Similar to you, I can remember the Sapphire Cosworths in my early teens and I just loved them from then on. I feel very lucky to have one, but let’s hope I continue to feel ‘lucky’ as the restoration progresses. Thanks for watching.
Congratulations on your purchase from a new subscriber from Plymouth now living in London. You got a great buy and the only way is Up while you enjoy the project and the outcome 🔥
Thanks for the comment and for the sub, much appreciated. Good to know you think the car was good value and worth doing - please do stay tuned to see the progress and keep an eye our for the Sierra when next in Plymouth! Thanks for watching.
Your video appeared for some reason on my home page (likely due to my love of various car restoration channels.....gotta trust the algorithm, eh?!). I'm excited to follow your journey with this car, I LOVE a Sierra, always wanted my dad to buy one, but he never did. Good luck, you have a new subscriber, and I look forward to the updates. So glad it made it back to Cornwall for you! :)
Thanks for the comment and the sub, really is appreciated. Great to know you like the Sierra and really pleased to know you'll be staying tuned for the restoration updates... one is coming soon! My Dad did have a couple of Sierras, but nothing high performance which I too always hoped he would buy... turns out I am making up for it now! 🤣 Thanks for watching - look forward to hearing from you again in the future.
Thanks for the comment and for the sub, I appreciate it. There’s a few update videos already on the Channel featuring progress with the Sierra… hope you get to see them and look forward to hearing from you with your thoughts on progress. Thanks for watching.
Great video I remember getting a lift in our insurance company rep’s white j plate 4x4 when i was 16 . It hit 120mph in seconds what a lucky man you are
Thanks for the comment, it is great to know you enjoyed the video and like the Sierra. Hope you stick around to see the progress updates on the restoration. Thanks for watching.
Great car for the age love this era of cars loving the shape of the sapphires i akso like the BMW E30 325i which is a similar shape to the cosworth looking forward to the next videos
Thanks for the comment, I appreciate you taking the time to watch. Couldn’t agree more about the ‘three-box’ design of the Sapphire (and the BMW E30). Hope you stay tuned and follow the Sierra restoration - I have gone much further than originally intended!
Thanks for the comment, I really appreciate the feedback. Thanks for the sub and look forward to hearing from you in the future, as the restoration of my Sierra continues.
Stumbled across your channel. Brought back great memories when I bought a white Sapphire Cosworth in 95 for £5495 when I was stationed in Germany. It would drink a litre of oil for every 100 miles over 100mph! What was funny my mates new Escort Cosworth used the same amount of oil! My dream was to own one and I did but it was a bit of a let down if I’m honest.
Thanks for the comment. Owning one in Germany, allowing you to really stretch the legs of the Cosworth on the autobahn must have been great fun. As you say, it is nice to have a Sierra Cosworth in you car history as they have gone on to be iconic motors! By today's standards the Sierra is fairly tame in standard form and I intend to return this one to a more standard power, but it is not about that these days. Thanks for watching, glad it brought back some memories.
Lovely lovely looking car, my Dad had a 3dr Cossie in black around '87 for a year or so, but I always liked the Saph. You should have far far more subscribers, you present very very well and keep it entertaining. Great video. 😍
Wow, thanks for the kind feedback about the video and Channel, much appreciated. Must have been nice to have experienced a 3-door Cosworth back in '87. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the comment Gary. I try to reply to as many of the comments as possible as I appreciate people taking the time to watch and the support my Channel. As the Channel grows this is becoming more of a time robber, but I am keeping up with it at present. I have always enjoyed my cars and sharing my little car collection via TH-cam is great fun - I am just pleased people are interested. Thanks for watching and hope you stay tuned.
I used to have a black one in 1993 I called the car ollie the fun I had with that car was unreal I wonder if he’s still on the road I sold him to a guy from Aberdeen I live in Glasgow but your cosworth is a Beauty it will come up a treat that motor enjoy it and yeh it sounds a bargain at £15750
Thanks for the comment Mike - I appreciate your thoughts on the car and the price. I am sure you do miss your black Cosworth... worth a check on the mot.gov to see if it is indeed still on the road. Thanks for watching.
What a great video pal! I think you paid a fair price - there is a lhd in moondust on ebay for £18k currently. Will be fantastic when it's finished. I think it really suits the wheels on it and they're still ford RS but totally understand you going back to original...
Thanks for the comment, I am really pleased you enjoyed the video. Also, good to know your view on value. Do stay tuned as I will be featuring the restoration (which is getting out of hand 😂). As for the wheels, I also really like the Softlines but it's going to have to go back on the Lattice... for now at least! Thanks for watching, I really appreciate it.
Good luck with the body ,I still have a base LX j plate SORN zebarted but rusty arches and sills saving to restore great cars and so quiet at speed ,stem oil seals wear fast with the extra performance.
Thanks for the comment, please do stay tuned as I will share an update on the restoration which will include how the car looks underneath. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the comment Steve, I appreciate the positive feedback about the video. Fingers crossed it continues to be a cheap Cosworth... if there is such a thing! Thanks for staying tuned and look forward to hearing from you again in the future.
Lovely looking car, brought back some memories as I owned a Dark Blue Sierra Sapphire 1.8LX on a G Plate back in the 90's, it was a lovely car to drive, can't wait to see it when it's finished
Thanks for the comment Robert, it is great to know you like the Sierra. Nice to hear from people who have previously owned Sierras and glad the video brings back some memories. Thanks also for staying tuned, I hope to hear from you again in the future as the restoration progresses.
Had a lot of welding done underneath and covered with underseal to hide it , pretty crazy considering it hasn't done many miles, must of parked it near the beach for 30 years
Thanks for the comment Karl. I believe my Sapphire will need a fair bit more welding as part of the restoration as I am determined to ensure it is solid. Please do stay tuned to the Channel to find out. Thanks for watching.
I just randomly came across your video so I thought I'd give it a watch and I am so glad I did. That video was brilliant and what a lovely example your Cosworth is. I think you paid a very fair price for the car and once you've restored it you won't fail to make money on it. I am so looking forward to the next video, I can't wait to see the restoration done on this beautiful car. I had to subscribe to this channel, intact I think it might be my new favourite channel?
Wow, thanks for the kind comment. Lots of work currently going into this car which I promise to feature here on the Channel along with my other cars. Really appreciate the support, thanks for watching.
The oil breather you talk about looks like a oil catch can, it stops oil mist from the crankcase from being piped back into the engine and being burnt off.
I used to own a Moondust Silver one too, J725 BNO. They’re some of the last ones ever made. Some “experts” say they’re not genuine as they didn’t make them in silver 😂 shows what they know! I absolutely loved it, I wish I still had it now but glad to be able to say I’ve owned one. I paid 8k for mine, around 2004!
Thanks for the comment Martyn. Your Moondust Sapphire Cosworth sounds nice and, as you say, it is nice to have a Cosworth in your car history. Wish I'd bought one in 2004! 🤣 Thanks for watching, hope you stay tuned.
Love a ford Sierra I have a 1992 black dohc glx estate Recently got it back on the road Bodywork to do but lucky all the arches and sills are perfect It was sat up for 12 years and still runs sweet Being a low mileage car sat at 81,000 miles Love a Sierra Looking forward to seeing more
Looking forward to following the project. I hope you've had a good look underneath. I've not seen a single car from Scotland that isn't extremely rusty underneath, even ones.that.are just a few years old, never mind 30+ years old.
Thanks for the comment; good to know you are staying tuned for the restoration - I appreciate it. I'll feature some content about the floor... I am hoping it is not too bad. I have bought a few cars from Scotland, including my Focus RS Mk3 and MG ZT260 V8. The MG needs some work underneath, and hoping the Focus is not too bad come MOT time! Thanks for watching.
@@rallycrosscraig put the reg in mot checker , tells you underneath was like a rotten sock , welded and covered in underseal, exhaust sounds nice though
That car was a steal....looking forward to the restoration vlogs. My stepdad had the whalefin cossie first in black and traded it for a 330bhp moonstone blue Sapphire. I bet he regrets selling either now but the Sapphire was rapid. The whalefin just looks way cooler. Good luck with the restoration i enjoyed the journey down as i am from Callington but now live in Koh Samui Thailand
Thanks for the comment Jack, it is great to know you enjoyed the video and glad you are going to stay tuned through the restoration. Your Dad sounds like he had a real enthusiasm for cars, with a 3-door and Sapphire Cosworth in his car history... very nice! Nice to hear from a fellow Cornishman too... big move from Cornwall to Thailand! Thanks for watching.
Awesome car! Always dreamed of having one, one day, sadly hasn't happened as yet. Hopefully I might have the opportunity to own one. My family were Ford mad during my youth, from uncles to my brothers, they all had Ford Sierras, all the exact same colour (Azur Blue I think) 2.0 Ghia Automatic, we collectively had around 8 of the exact same cars at one time. At parties, our relatives thought we were mad. 😂
Thanks for the comment, it is good to know you like the Cosworth - I hope you get one at some point in the future... if you do though, be ready for some work! Nothing wrong with a 'Ford family', it sounds to me your family gatherings sound more like a Ford show than anything else... very cool! Thanks for watching. Hope you stay tuned to see the progress with my car.
Sometimes cars that have stood for a long time can use oil initially and then may settle down and not use oil unless pushed. The drive home may be a good indication. I once bought a 244 Volvo that was using oil but after a couple of weeks of use it did not use oil for the next 150K with normal service intervals. It had a blocked crankcase breather which fixed that issue (supposed to be changed every oil change). The replacement breather gauze cost one pound. Best of luck settling it down.
Really enjoyed this video. I think the price you paid was quite reasonable compared to some you see advertised. Looking forward to the updates and the refurb videos.👍
Thanks for the comment, it is great to know you enjoyed the video. Good to know you think the price was fair and hope to hear from you again as I feature the restoration. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the comment Michael, it is good to hear from people who see the potential in the Sierra. Hope you stay tuned to see the progress. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the comment. One of my dream cars and so glad to have bought one in... currently mid-restoration and I have gone way further than intended so thanks for staying tuned as I will feature it all. Thanks for support.
Great project car, oil catch can filling up? Excessive crankcase pressure, blocked breather or worn piston rings. Empty the can and monitor how quickly it fills up. I had use of a customers one for a month great car I was so impressed I went out and bought an 8 year old urquattro- I regret ever selling it!
I like that the cam pulleys are shown...don't like the covers on a cosworth engine, the pulleys are a must see for me. Just found your channel...looking forward to the rest of the build.... Nice car...
Thanks for the comment and for sharing your view on the camchain being exposed... I am trying for the OEM look so the cover is already back on the car, which I hope you have seen in the update videos. Thanks for following progress with the Sierra... another video coming soon.
I bought my 1989 Sierra sapphire Cosworth 2 WD in moonstone blue in 2014 originally from Wolverhampton sold by Bristol street motors in the day, several minor mechanical upgrades new wiring looms made by auto dynamix in Devon and fitted and fully tested at Motorsports development Blackpool a very thorough and cracking job.
Thanks for the comment Nigel and for sharing details of your Sierra, which sounds great. Always good to hear from another Cosworth owner. Thanks for watching, I hope you stay tuned to my restoration.
Great to see a sierra cosworth on the channel.do love sierras.the 3 door in moonstone is my favorite,me dad had one in 1988 for 2 years.i do love the sapphires to tho.look forward to seeing this sorted.glad your putting the vents back in dont like it when they stick aftermarket gauges everywhere.good to see you have the belt cover to.thats another pet hate when they leave them off.its just asking to get the belt damaged.really good price, glad i didnt see it,might just have bin tempted myself.they are crazy prices now.👍
Thanks for the comment Ivan, appreciate the support and good to know you think the Sierra was sensibly priced. We agree on not liking the aftermarket dials - I am really looking forward to swapping them out. Your Dad's 3-door sounds amazing, must have been brilliant having one back in the 80's. Thanks for watching and appreciate you staying tuned.
Thanks for the comment Marty. The drive certainly was enjoyable, once I had a few miles under my belt and had built a bit of confidence in the Sierra! If you like your Mk3 Granadas then please do stay tuned... you may like the next video, which is due next week! Thanks for watching.

Thanks for the comment and for sharing some of your car history - you've had some cracking cars! Thanks also for the sub and for staying tuned, I will feature an update soon... it has not been cheap! Thanks for the comment, glad you like the Sierra. Please stay tuned as I will feature my progress with the car here on the Channel. Thanks for watching.
always wanted a cosworth and im a massive ford fanboy having passed my test in 1990 and lusting after all things rs. had a few fast fords over the years but never a cosworth, maybe one day. subscribed, enjoyed this vid which i stumbled across and you have a great car collection
Thanks for the comment Jamie and appreciate your feedback on my cars... as you have seen, it is something of an obsession! I ruled out ever having a Cosworth a few years ago because the prices had gone so high, but here I am now with one... so keep the interest and I'm sure you'll own one in the future. Thanks for subscribing and for taking the time to watch some of my videos (lots more to come!).
@@cornishcarcollectors no probs. love restoring stuff meself. i'm a jag man but me mate had a cozi the same as yours and wished he never sold it.get sorted mate. they fetch big money now.
Thanks for the comment, it's good to know you like the car. Lots of progress currently being made so hope you stay tuned to see how it turned out. Thanks for watching.
If I found a J reg cosworth sapphire, with 4 decent sills, and 4 arches that aren't all rotted out, I would think myself bloody blessed..lol..Nice find
Thanks for the comment Pete, it is good to know you think the Sapphire was a good find. Stay tuned for the restoration update videos to see if the sills and arches are indeed rot free! Appreciate you taking the time to watch, thanks.
the catch tank is an engine oil breather. uprated boost pressure in the engine causes oil to be pushed up past the piston rings (completely normal for modified turbo engines). the set up thats on your car will have a pipe from the crank case and the cam cover. they are supposed to drain any excess oil to atmosphere. getting rid of it will more than likely cause premature engine failure over time and certainly cause premature wear. the oil that you see from the exhaust could also be signs of a worn turbo. id be more concerned about the temperature gauge not working.
Thanks for the comment and advice, really appreciate it. Updates coming soon on the turbo, oil breather and various gauges... still work on it! Thanks for watching and hope you stay tuned - all the advice is welcomed!
Great video, new subscriber! I think you paid a fair price, and good to see things like the original seized boot lock, shows previous owners cared. Good luck with the resto!
Excellent stuff and definitely top-notch commentary !!!! really enjoyed this upload of my boyhood dream car which I could afford to buy at the time in the late 80s but could not, unfortunately, afford to insure 😢😢
Thanks for the comment and kind feedback about the video. My boyhood dream car too and, like you, I could not afford the insurance! It is nice to have one now, but as you'll find if you stay tuned... it's needed a fair bit of work! Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the comment. I'm going to have to Google Dalblair of Ayr as several people have said they used to sell some decent stock. Thanks for watching.
Gorgeous car 😍 & a fantastic starting point. First thing I’d do is get rid of the ridiculous gauges in the air vents! 🤣 I live 10 miles from where Dalblair of Ayr was, my father bought 4 mk2 Granada’s & 2 mk3 Scorpio’s, my brother bought a Capri 2.0 Laser & an XR3i, my sister bought a mk2 Fiesta 1.3 Ghia & I bought my Sierra 2.0i GT (used) all from Dalbairs. I Loved going into that showroom as a kid & it’s definitely where my love of 80s & 90s Fords comes from. Excellent video
Thanks for the comment, it is great to know you enjoyed the video and like the Sierra. Great family car history, some lovely cars. I had a Capri Laser around 25 years ago (wish I'd kept it!). If you like Granadas then do look out for my next video, which will be live next week. Thanks for watching.
This is the second sapphire cosworth I’ve seen appear on TH-cam bought from scotland. Adam smith is his name but his wasn’t able to be driven so now I’ve two cars to look forward to seeing
Thanks for the comment Tom. I have been following Adam Smith's Sapphire Cosworth recommissioning too - he is doing a cracking job. Thanks for tuning in to watch mine, much appreciated.
@@cornishcarcollectors I’m suprised your channels just appeared as one to watch……. I’m a Ford nut myself having owned mk1 fiestas/orion/escort/Sierra/ and a 1.8 16v xr2i that someone decided they wanted to steal 21yrs ago. I’ll definitely be going through all your videos
Thanks for the comment and the sub, it is appreciated. Nice to hear from another fan of the Sapphire Cosworth... let's hope our dream car doesn't turn into a nightmare! Please do stay tuned to the Channel as I will feature progress updates. Thanks for watching.
@@cornishcarcollectors thanks for the reply and I will be following the progress 100% I had a H reg 4x4 sapphire cosworth in moonstone blue back in the day(same wheels that’s on yours now)Didn’t have the knowledge I have now or I would have kept it🤷🏻♂️ I’ve dreamt of owning another one ever since. Looking forward to the next episode. No other car I have owned in my driving history got the reactions from the public like the cozzy got 👊 cheers bud Tom
What a fantastic project, I always preferred the understated 4 door cosworth. My parents lived in Devon and in the late 90's a local farmers son had a " magenta?" One and when clean ' obviously rare in North devon😇" it looked a million dollars.
Thanks for the comment Bryan, I appreciate your thoughts on the Sierra. A Magenta Sapphire Cosworth is actually my favourite colour, I think they look great! Thanks for watching, hope you stay tuned for the restoration.
Thanks for the comment, it is good to know you think the Sapphire was good value. Not sure what to do with the engine management chip yet... whether to keep it or return the car to a more standard power. Hope you stay tuned to follow the progress. Thanks for watching.
Great video and a fantastic car. I used to have a 1996 R2000 in red, loved it, love the old Fords. When i had that car i was in the FORD RS OWNERS CLUB and went on loads of meets, met some amazing people, great times and very happy memories. Our campervan in a Ford as well 🙂 Just subscribed, happy christmas and New year to you and your family
Thanks for the comment Tyler and kind words about the video, I am glad you enjoyed it. I am also a big fan of the Mk5/6 RS2000s - very nice cars. Thanks for watching and for the sub.
Oil catch can is a good thing to have on a tuned car as you have more gases burning off in the crank case. You could be getting blue smoke if the catch can is full
Thanks for the comment and advice, much appreciated. I am tempted to take the power down a bit more towards standard, but will see - please do stay tuned to see which way I go with the car. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the comment Neil, it is good to know you think the Sierra was sensible money. Hope you stay tuned and follow the restoration of my car. Thanks for watching.
Very, very similar to the EB Falcon exterior looks here in Australia- espexially the front end. Owned a few EB & ED Falcons- 5lt Windsor, a Wagon that i later put a V8 in, and Fairmont Ghia
Wow what a beautiful car always loved the Sierra wish I would of bought one when I was younger, definitely can't afford one these days. Ur a very lucky man. Great video m8 👍 u have another subscriber
Thanks for the comment Carl, it is great to know you enjoyed the video. I know what you mean about Sierra prices really running away over the past few years. I do consider myself very privileged to own a few Sierras, but do stay tuned as you'll see the costs on this Cosworth start to go a bit crazy I think! Thanks for watching and for the sub.
Been a while since I've sat in one but it looks like a 2.5 bar Racetech gauge, if so then it looked like it built 1.5 bar of boost on that one acceleration run, if it's meant to be anything much over 300hp I'd suspect that the intercooler is not standard (RS500 version was a popular mod). That engine in standard tune is boring, there is an optimum level of tuning whereby it drives and runs as calmly as a factory motor but will keep up with fast bikes when you want to, it appears the previous owner was aiming for that level of tune. Friends and family had a string of XR4x4 Turbo Technics conversions done back in the day, and a couple of Cosworths for weekend fun, I remember many happy trips to Severn Valley Motorsport who were one of the go to garages back then. Can't wait for you to get that timing belt cover back on, stresses me out just thinking about it 🤣.
Thanks for the comment and details about the tune, plus your friend's XR4x4 Turbo Techics cars sound interesting. The missing timing belt cover drives me mad too - one of the jobs I am really looking forward to doing. Thanks for watching and for staying tuned, it is appreciated.
A 2wd sapp has just gone through Anglia Car Auctions which was in average condition for 17k plus fees so you've defiantly got a good deal. It gives me hope that I'll be able to find one for similar money when the time arrives for me to get one.
Thanks for the comment and for sharing the news of the auctioned Cosworth - good to know you think my car was sensible value. Good luck finding the right car when you are ready to start looking. Thanks for watching.
13:02 i believe that is an oil catch can designed to only allow the crankcase fumes to re-enter the engine and catch any liquid oil. Btw, how much was that expensive litre of oil?
Thanks for the comment, I appreciate the information. Please do stay tuned to see what I do with the oil catcher can as part of the restoration. The oil was £35 for 1ltr... criminal! Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the comment, great to know you enjoyed the video and good to hear from another Cosworth owner. I promise to share the full restoration - the good, the bad and the ugly. Thanks for watching and the sub!
Cheers, looking forward to all the updates! Had our Saph from new (92) only covered 39k miles. Got bits to keep up with, some quite simple bits, but are challenging with limited ramp time at the garage. Biggest problem is not the mileage of parts, but the age! Gators especially. We recently tried to replace some on the front driveshafts, but are too small. Only put them on to attend a show, but all has to come apart again to fit correctly fitting gators.. Small things, but a right pain. All the best mate 👍👍
Thanks for the comment. The Sierra certainly caused a stir on the drive home, so much so I needed to plan extra time every time I stopped for fuel or to grab something to eat. Thanks for watching, I hope you stay tuned for the restoration updates.
My 3rd car was a f reg Sierra sapphire , you could put your finger through the body work it was that full of rust lol it was £1400 at the time , thanks to that car I can parallel park anything lol .
Thanks for the comment. As you say, a great car back in the day and these days they are iconic, but modern diesels will out perform them today... but that's not the point and they drive really nicely, more involving than modern stuff. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the comment and your thoughts on the price, I am glad you think it was sensibly priced. Hope you stay tuned to see the progress - thanks for watching.
Thanks for the comment, it is great to know you like the Sierra. I thoroughly enjoyed the drive home, once I had a few miles under my belt and confidence had grown that the car would make it! I am fortunate to have driven and owned several old cars, but I have never experienced attention like it... people were coming over every time I stopped to talk to me about the car or taking photos as they passed. Thanks for watching and for staying tuned, it is appreciated.
Thanks for the comment Nick - good to know you think the Sapphire was decent value. Really appreciate you staying tuned for the updates. Thanks for watching.
Lovely car, a great vid, really enjoyed it,well done. One thing iirc the wheels are off a 2nd cosworth, the 4wd wheels were different and unique to the 4wd. Looking forward to the build. Subbed.❤️
Thanks for the comment and kind feedback on the Sierra. Thanks for the info about the wheels - the early (pre-facelift) Sapphire Cosworth 4x4s had the earlier Lattice wheels; the 'Shark Tooth' alloys where fitted to the post-facelift cars (the ones with the curved dashboard). My car is an early '91 meaning the Lattice wheels are correct. Thanks for watching and the sub, I appreciate you following the restoration. 👍
I used to have a mk3 escort convertible running a rs turbo engine conversion with a Ahmed bayjoo chiped ecu in it and the thing was a monster just wanted to light the tired up every time you gave it some
Thanks for the comment Mikey. As you may have already seen on my Channel, I do have a Mk4 Escort Cabriolet which I’ve had for over 15yrs. I’ve always wanted to do an RS Turbo conversion to a Cabriolet… bet yours was great fun. Thanks for watching.
Yeh the car its self was a bit ruff it was blue with the siver bottom along the doors swaped it for a old mk2 fiesta that i had a crash in when i got it from a m8 he said he had ran the car before at 20 psi of boost but even back then to me at the time with little knowledge of turbos sounded a little high he then told me it was wound back down to 9/10 psi to make it a bit more reliable as i would end up killing the car in the firs day if he hadn't bit you no how storys go eh lol
Also had a few other old ford back in the day one being a 1.6 ghia orion that i loved but sadly the old rust got to it and a mk3 escort that i wraped around a tree
Thanks for the comment and good to hear from a local! Do stay tuned to the Channel to see the restoration progress and say 'hello' if you spot the car at one of the local shows. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the comment Chris, it is good to know you like the car and think it was sensible money. Like you, the Sierra Sapphire 4x4 has been a dream car of mine since being a kid. Hope you stay tuned for the updates - thanks for watching.
Not heard that name for years, guy was top notch, sad news.
Good luck 👍
That's sad to hear my series 2 RS Turbo went extremely well with his chip. Rip 🙏
Back in the day I new Harvey gibby well lol. First rs turbo then sapphire cossie both with Ahmed bayjoo chips
This is my first of your videos Lovely colour, love the softlines, car sounds nice, looking forward to seeing progress
Chanced upon the video and really enjoyed it! So nice to see someone giving it the TLC it deserves! Subscribed!
Thanks for the comment Chris, really appreciate the sub. Glad you like the Sierra - do stay tuned as I will feature the good, the bad and the ugly on the restoration. Thanks for watching.
Just emery papering the serrated abs rings and cleaning the end of the sensors usually works 👍 don't get conned into buying four new sensors 👊
Thanks for the comment and advice.
Awesome project fella. I could do with some of your spare parts!!
Look forward to seeing the progress 👍🏼
Come on now Adam.
Catch tank is necessary, you can plumb the pipe which vents to atmosphere back into the block, “recirculate “ and no more oil on the ground.
Those plates are the stuff of legend

Just came across this - great video and great value. I remember test driving a friends one in mint condition , loved beyond measure. He wanted 5k and I thought that was steep so went with an evo instead. Have regretted it ever since. Fascinating content will subscribe as I am sure you will of sorted the issues by now
Thank so much for the comment and for subscribing, it is great to know people are still discovering this video and you can follow the restoration over the next seven videos... be sure to watch them in order! 😂
Hope you enjoy my other cars and content too, and I look forward to hearing from you on some of the other videos.
The can looking thing is for the crank case pressure to vent when you constantly use excessive boost. Then you can drain the cooled down gasses that form a liquid. 👍
Thanks for the info Ian, much appreciated.
The catch can will be full, as above they can be drained, if full it will leak!
Thanks for the comment. What a great memory and fab car, thanks for share. Appreciate you taking the time to watch the video.
Came across this video by accident but really enjoyed it, can't wait to see what you do to the 'cossie' 👍🏻
Thanks for the comment. I really appreciate you watching and glad you enjoyed it. Thanks also for staying tuned - I will post an update soon, and in the meantime if you like Fords then check out a few of my other videos. Look forward to hearing from you again in the future.
Decent engine to clock over 500 miles in 2 days definitely worth keeping and restored
Thanks for the comment Andrew and thanks for watching. Hope you stay tuned to see the updates.
It’s an oil breather kit handy to have on these engines lovely car 👍
Thanks for the comment, glad you like the Sierra. I was privileged to drive a Renault 5 GT Turbo 25 years ago and I loved it. Thanks for watching.
Me too I had a 5 raider loved it from new. Sending good thoughts 🧠💪🙋♂️💕🙏
Will keep an eye on your project and drop a few tips as you go along 👌
Thanks for the comment - hints and tips are very welcomed; I like to hear people's opinions on the Sierra. Thanks for watching.
Quality content. I'm not a ford man but your adventures from Cornwall to Edinburgh then driving back keep me interested
Thanks for the comment, really glad you enjoyed the video. Hope you stay tuned to the Channel as it’s not all Ford (albeit we are having a bit of a run on Fords at the moment!). Thanks for watching.
make sure you upgrade that fuel pressure regulator, and next time a fire extinguisher to be safe mate, loving the fords!
Thanks for the comment and advice. I have seen the horror stories regarding failing fuel pressure regulators - I will certainly be replacing mine. Glad you like my Fords, thank you for watching.
Looking forward to seeing it get restored. I am no great Ford fan, but these Cosworths are quite special.

Nice One...look forward to the next.
Thanks for the comment Kevin, glad you like the car and thanks for watching the video.
Great price! 😎👍 Never seen this channel before. I've subscribed. Can't wait to see the build process.

Wow..... you replied to all the comments , don't see many people doing that 👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks for the comment Gary.
Nice content video, enjoyed the trip back from Scotland in what appears to be a cheap cossie, looking forward to the restoration.
@@cornishcarcollectors you are most welcome 👍
The oil breather you talk about looks like a oil catch can, it stops oil mist from the crankcase from being piped back into the engine and being burnt off.
Thanks for the comment and the info, much appreciated. Thanks also for taking the time to watch the video.

Thanks for the comment and advice, much appreciated. Stay tuned as I will feature whatever it is I find as the car is restored. Thanks for watching.
Really enjoyed this video. I think the price you paid was quite reasonable compared to some you see advertised. Looking forward to the updates and the refurb videos.👍

I ruled out ever having a Cosworth a few years ago because the prices had gone so high, but here I am now with one... so keep the interest and I'm sure you'll own one in the future. Thanks for subscribing and for taking the time to watch some of my videos (lots more to come!).
it'll be worth something done, and you have the parts. brilliant.
Thanks for the comment Kenneth, appreciate your thoughts on restoring the car and for the encouragement. Thanks for watching.
@@cornishcarcollectors no probs. love restoring stuff meself. i'm a jag man but me mate had a cozi the same as yours and wished he never sold it.get sorted mate. they fetch big money now.

Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Thanks for the comment, it is great to know you enjoyed the video... much appreciated. Thanks for watching, hope you stay tuned to the Channel.
I really enjoyed this documentary thank you
Thanks for watching and the kind feedback, I appreciate it. 👍🏻
Thanks for the comment and for the sub, really appreciated. Good to know you think the Sierra was a fair price. Do stay tuned and thanks for watching.
Dalblair of Ayr, remember it well had a fair few decent cars in the window back in the 90's
I live 10 miles from where Dalblair of Ayr was, my father bought 4 mk2 Granada’s & 2 mk3 Scorpio’s, my brother bought a Capri 2.0 Laser & an XR3i, my sister bought a mk2 Fiesta 1.3 Ghia & I bought my Sierra 2.0i GT (used) all from Dalbairs.
Dream car of mine aswell. What better way to snag issues than a good old blast down the uk to get her home. Good channel and new sub here 👊
Thanks for the comment and the sub, it is appreciated.
No other car I have owned in my driving history got the reactions from the public like the cozzy got
👊 cheers bud
Tom
Lovely car , great video , bang on with the money 💰 good luck we ll follow 👍👍
Thanks for the comment, glad you enjoyed the video and like the Sierra. Please do stay tuned, thanks for watching.
Amazing Chanel just found you looking forward to seeing more. 👍👍
Thanks for the kind comment, it is great to know you like our Channel... really appreciate the support. Thanks for watching.
Looks a great buy with a lot of potential. I've got an Ahmed bayjoo chip on my 4x4 saph and it makes good power and torque.
Thanks for the comment, it is good to know you think the Sapphire was good value. Not sure what to do with the engine management chip yet... whether to keep it or return the car to a more standard power. Hope you stay tuned to follow the progress. Thanks for watching.
Good to see another old ford in good hands…great price too.
Thanks for the comment, appreciate you watching and your thoughts on price. Do stay tuned as lots of progress updates to come.
My dad bought his burgundy E-reg Sierra Sapphire 2.0GL from Dalblair Ayr.
Thanks for the comment, I hope my video brought back fond memories of your Dad’s old car. 👍
Banging deal pal,awesome
Thanks for the comment Neil, it is good to know you think the Sierra was sensible money. Hope you stay tuned and follow the restoration of my car. Thanks for watching.
Very, very similar to the EB Falcon exterior looks here in Australia- espexially the front end.
Owned a few EB & ED Falcons- 5lt Windsor, a Wagon that i later put a V8 in, and Fairmont Ghia
Thanks for the comment Max. Australian Ford range has always interested me - you get some cool cars. Thanks for taking the time to watch.
@@cornishcarcollectors Ur more than welcome, looking forward to seeing what u have in-store for the beast
Put the reg in mot checker and you'll find out why it was that price
13:02 i believe that is an oil catch can designed to only allow the crankcase fumes to re-enter the engine and catch any liquid oil. Btw, how much was that expensive litre of oil?
Thanks for the comment, I appreciate the information. Please do stay tuned to see what I do with the oil catcher can as part of the restoration. The oil was £35 for 1ltr... criminal! Thanks for watching.
Great video, saph 4x4 J plate this way too. Looking forward to more! Subscribed!👍🍻
Just beautiful love sierra cosworth!
Thanks for the comment; glad you like the Sierra. Thanks for watching.
Pretty much every car which passes you has a look. Its a very nice looking car and the wheels suit it.
Thanks for the comment, always good to hear from people who have owned and driven Sierras. Thanks for watching.
great car, I remember these back in the day, crazy that a hot hatch has more power now
Thanks for the comment. As you say, a great car back in the day and these days they are iconic, but modern diesels will out perform them today... but that's not the point and they drive really nicely, more involving than modern stuff. Thanks for watching.
that is a bargin ! best car i ever owned , enjoy it mate
Thanks for the comment and your thoughts on the price, I am glad you think it was sensibly priced. Hope you stay tuned to see the progress - thanks for watching.
Wow what a beautiful car dude, I bet she was a real pleasure to drive all the way home. I bet she was turning a lot of heads aswel. 👍
£15750 A good price. Good luck with the restoration and I look forward to hearing all about it.
Im a cornish boy from Truro can't wait toxsee this on the rd
Thanks for the comment and good to hear from a local! Do stay tuned to the Channel to see the restoration progress and say 'hello' if you spot the car at one of the local shows. Thanks for watching.
Great vid. Love the car... definitely a dream car from my youth. Good value.. definitely thought £20k.
Thanks for the comment Chris, it is good to know you like the car and think it was sensible money. Like you, the Sierra Sapphire 4x4 has been a dream car of mine since being a kid. Hope you stay tuned for the updates - thanks for watching.
