Jacobean refers to a period in British history in the early 17th century. It usually refers to a very dark oak stain.
I've followed you ever since I caught one vlog and became hooked. I watched right back from the beginning.
    Keep up the good work.

Hi Martin and Julie! I wanted to let you know about a couple tools that would make the drywall experience easier for you, when you go and work on the main part of the house. 1) "Blind - Mark XT," is a tool to use instead of the lipstick method. 2) "Q bit" is a tool you put on your oscillating tool and it cuts all four sides of the drywall at once for outlets. These tools were shown on another You Tube channel. The apartment looks so great! 😃 Have a great rest of your weekend!

The term Jacobean is derived from the Latin name for James, which is Jacobus and indicates the reign of James the sixth of Scotland who was also James the first of England. The pronunciation is Jacko-be-an.

Julie, in response to your comments about "Jacobean" (as in the stain for the countertops), the Jacobean era was a period in English and Scottish history between 1603 and 1625, when James VI of Scotland (also known as James 1st in England). It was characterised by distinctive styles of Jacobean architecture and furniture (much of which used dark woods or stains), literature, visual and decorative arts,

Julie, 'Jacobean' was the British era of King James from 1603 to 1625. Jacobus is Latin for James. The period was renowned for stately homes with wood panelling that matured to a deep colour - hence your Jacobean stain.

just a hint for installing the casing on the doors with the drywall being proud (sticking out) from the jamb: you can use a hammer and just hit the drywall to smash it which will break up the gypsum and make it so the trim can be installed. the smashed part can be hidden under the casing just like you did in this video with the part you cut with the knife. You could also use a utility knife to cut the drywall at an angle for a safer and easier job. Love watching the channel and the progress! Homestead Goals for me and my family! God Bless you all.

Jacobean was an era in England during King James. Jacobean is similar to other styles like Victorian, Italianate, Georgian, Empire and so on. The color is from that design aesthetic. I have used Jacobean from Minwax. It is a beautiful dark brown, rich color, while still providing a high level of contrast considering it is a darker stain. The doors are beautiful!

Sure. Come to N Idaho so you can live with cougars and bears , coyotes and an occasional wolf, and long, cold ,snowy winters. Last summer we had weeks of over 100 degrees. Smoke from forest fires. People that protest the covid shut downs, don't wear masks. Want to live off the land away from people instead of live in civilized planned communities. That's just so you know what you're getting into.

I don't like 100 degree days but doesn't last long in Indiana same for snow we get snow but then will be gone within a few weeks not months and months of inches of snow. The best place I ever lived weather wise was the Bay Area in San Francisco, just lived the weather there.
