Hi Chad! Always been a fan of yours! We're probably kicking in the same age bracket... Great to see that someone else out there is telling snowboarders that taking care of your edges is good and important.
I wanna suggest a thing or two. The gummi stone you're using to get rid of rock burrs is better used to get rid of the micro burr you create when filing - so basically at the end of a tune, last pass. For rock damage removal they'll just rip apart eventually and never remove much of that crazy hardened steel. Try a coarse (200 grit) diamond or a cheap aluminum oxide stone, both with water. Much better result.
In regards to base edge fling: Since you can't ever back paddle on filing the base edge other than with a base grind that takes down base material, I wouldn't do that too often, and certainly not every time you do side edges. You'll end up with a park tune with way too much bevel and super late, sluggish turn engagement after a short while. If you don't wanna use a base bevel guide, it would be more consistent to wrap some electrical tape around the end of the file, which would lift it off the base at an angle. No more than two or three wrap arounds of tape and then go from there. And then of course you can take this to all kinds of levels with polishing out the edge with diamond stones, but whatever... not everybody cares about that kinda depth.
You might have seen this, I uploaded a full on edge tuning vid last spring. It's long and seemingly a gold mine - according to comments. Check it out if you can be bothered. th-cam.com/video/VLqp8V5p58Q/w-d-xo.htmlsi=yiZosTmHjxPzb-L7
