Budget Overland Trailer Build Pt3 - Max Coupler Offroad Articulation Hitch Setup & We Go Off-roading

  • It all started off as a Lowe’s utility trailer. In episode part 1 We striped the trailer down to it’s bare bones and started building it back up! I Starting with beefing up the trailers base and tongue, then installed a new 2k lbs axle and installation kit. This allowed us to adapt larger BFG 33” mud terrain tires wrapped around 17” JKU take off wheels.
    Then In episode Part 2 of the offroad trailer build , I continue the plan to fabricate and install a new deck lid for the trailer that will double as lockable storage and provide a solid mounting solution for our Rooftop tent. We also install a few other goodies, like a tongue box for additional storage, some recovery tracks, as well as repurpose some old leveling Jacks I saved laying around!
    Now we are here in Part 3 of the build and it’s finally time to install an offroad rated articulation hitch. I’m also installing some safety chains and a new handle to the tounge, 600 miles later on the hitch , I feel it’s time to do this all over again and shorten the the tongue an additional 16”. Check out the video and see the progress for yourself.
    let’s get to work. 👊🍻

      I totally agree , with the Rtt lower, set up time cut in half, and I can pick up my dog and she can sleep with me on the trail or when we are hunting, it’s very ergonomic and convenient. Also I’ve been seeing a lot of trailers with huge empty spaces under there RTTs and to me it just looks horrible and it’s unused space IMO! I’m currently building some racks to go over the Rtt for two kayaks and/or solar. Just some ideas to boot! Thanks for watching buddy. 🍻

    You mentioned that you shortened the tongue length. It seemed to perform great on the video. What made you decide to shorten it? I have a M416 trailer that I’ve added to the 2’ to the tongue to make backing easier but I haven’t tested it yet.

    • @ATEMOFFROAD
      @ATEMOFFROAD  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So originally, I left the tongue longer because I was unsure at the time how long I wanted it and I do think it did well offroad at the time. But then I realized that I hadn’t filmed anything on the install of the max coupler and I was still considering shortening the tongue So I just went for it and cut an additional 12” off. I think it will still offer good offroad capabilities and I can still park my jeep perpendicular to the trailer and cook off the back of my tailgate with the length it is now. I’m 3.5 from the box to the end and about another 12” from the bumper if I continue using that adjustable hitch. I think 4”+ will be fine but will really get to know soon once I get the 35s on the spare tire in the back of the tailgate. I really hope I didn’t miss calculate! What is your overall length from end of receiver to nearest large object on trailer? Thank you

  • @xbpbat21x

    I have the Lock n roll...I like it. They both seem to be fairly equal in performance. I don't see much difference of one over the other...maybe price? Nice build...what's your overall weight going to be?

    • @ATEMOFFROAD
      @ATEMOFFROAD  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree , they both seem to do a good job! Time will definitely tell how well it holds up, Beats spending 5k on a finite suspension, when all you really need is a single dexter and a articulation hitch. As far as weight goes I’m hoping to get the trailer on the scale either in the next video or after. Thanks for watching buddy I appreciate it 🍻
