    The greatest decade ever!!!! Music TV and movies!!!! I would have a hard time picking my top 25.

    Some deep cuts here. Mischief is quite the hidden gem. It has a great cast and it has a more intricate/emotional plot than most if not all teen sex comedies.

    It was nice discovering 80s movies this month and re-watching ones I haven't seen in over a decade.

    A Nightmare on Elm Street, my favorite movie, is one of the biggest reasons why I'm an insomniac. I started staying up late as a very small child. When my parents were together, I'd sneak out of bed and lie in my doorway, which was directly across from their open doorway, propped up on my elbows watching the late night sitcom reruns they'd have on, which included Sanford and Son. I'd jam out to that intro theme. Anyhow, I was attempting to avoid the terrible Freddy Krueger nightmares that I had growing up. The Nightmare movies were huge back then. We went to video stores a lot, and I don't think there was a single one that didn't have at least one Freddy poster or standee up. I also saw bits of the movies at friends' houses. Freddy's Dead was the first horror movie I ever finally mustered up the courage to watch from beginning to end. My mom had rented it and caught me up watching it in the middle of the night on a school night, so I had to stop it in the first 20-30 minutes. I rushed home from school the next day and watched it from beginning to end before she got home and I loved it. Despite that one not being too great to most people, it has a special place in my heart for being my first ever horror movie and I think it's a good first horror movie if a kid does happen to watch one who has otherwise been too scared of them. It's cartoony and silly enough to not be too scary, Freddy gets killed at the end, and the soundtrack is awesome.

      @bobsblurays  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have relatable stories like that. The first horror movie you watch always holds a special place in your heart.

    Awesome list, Bob. The Blob is one of the best remakes of that genre. I desperately need to re-watch both Porky’s movies. I’ve only seen the beginning of Mischief. 😂😂. RDJ gives an amazing performance in Zero. Yeah…I want Bloodsport too…just not at those prices. 😂😂😂. Great list. 🔥🔥🔥

  • @johnpublic7796

    I marked out when you said Cobra. Over the Top is awesome, too. Both Cannon movies. I've yet to see Lock Up. They actually sold an Over the Top toy that this kid I knew had when I was growing up. It was a plastic electronic arm wrestling table top. It had a hand grip on each side and the "pinning blocks" or whatever on each side where you try to touch your opponent's hand and it would make a bell sound or something letting you know you won/lost. Rocky 3 was my favorite 80s Stallone movie because it's what I had for the longest time, just a recorded VHS copy from the video store, and it had a significant tracking problem before Rocky and Clubber fight for the first time where Apollo is on commentary.

    • @bobsblurays
      @bobsblurays  ปีที่แล้ว

      The Rocky franchise is one of the best franchises ever made. I love Rocky III as well. I love basically everything that Stallone has done.

    So much I want to say. I loved this video. There's not a movie on your list that I think is garbage, although there's a handful I haven't yet seen. I need to see Mischief for sure. Bull Durham is very good, but it probably doesn't make my Top 10 baseball movies, but I'm blown away by how many baseball movies are good. I don't believe I've seen one that I hated and I've seen probably easily over 100 of them.

    • @bobsblurays

    I saw Robocop, one of my Top 3, way too young and thought it was real. I thought the commercials and news stories in the movie were real, as I first saw it on home video, but thought it was on the TV. I actually cried when Robocop was being shot by the police, lol.

    • @bobsblurays

  • @filmfan7895
    @filmfan7895 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Bob
    Love your list . I was 7 years old in 1980 so my list is going to be different . Being a kid back then Luca and Spielberg were the only filmmakers we knew by name. Oh and of course John Carpenter who always put his name above the film title and who thanks to Halloween gave nightmares for a few years.
    But here goes
    1-Empire Strikes Back
    2-Return of the Jedi
    3-Raiders of the Lost Ark
    4-Last Crusade
    5-Back to the Future
    6- E T
    7-Star Trek 2
    8-Temple of Doom
    9-Fright Night
    10-Aliens
    11-The shining
    12-Ghostbusters
    13-Do The Right Thing
    14-Stand By Me
    15-The Untouchables
    16-Cinema Paradiso ( I highly recommend it to film lovers ) the kid in the movie reminded me of myself and siblings going to the theaters and the magic of cinema on us and the whole audience)
    17-Field of Dreams
    18-parenthood
    19- the karate Kid
    20-Day Of The Dead
    21-The Color Purple
    22- First Blood
    23-Lethal Weapon
    24-Who Framed Roger Rabbit
    25-Die Hard
    Loved seeing Flashdance on your list . Back then my father owned a shop near Times Square so I hanged out there a lot and there was more than a dozen theaters near by and I would love passing them and seeing the lobby cards and posters and trailers that always played outside the theaters and seeing long lines. Some movies would have long lines all day for more than a month.

  • @johnpublic7796
    @johnpublic7796 ปีที่แล้ว

    No Robocop, Ghostbusters, or Nightmare on Elm Street? Well, those are my 3 favorite films of all-time. I really struggle to make definitive lists like this because so much depends on my mood on any given day/hour. I'd struggle like hell to make a Top 10, let alone a Top 25. Ghostbusters is my first memory in life. My literal earliest memory is me as a very small child pushing my family's Ghostbusters VHS tape into the VCR and playing it.

    • @bobsblurays
      @bobsblurays  ปีที่แล้ว

      I liked Ghostbusters enough. But it’s not really my type of movie I would normally watch. And I waited way to long in life to check it out. I didn’t see it as a kid. But I didn’t mind it. A Nightmare On Elm Street could easily be close to my top 25.

      I think The Blob 4k isn't the 80's remake but the original 50's version, though. I'm not sure if I saw the 80's one myself. I was in my teens back then, so I probably did but I know I didn't own it.

    I'm kind of surprised you don't have the 'Roadhouse' 4K from VS. Like you, 'Porky's' is in my top 25 and while 'Tuff Turf' isn't in my 25, I have another James Spader in it ('Sex, Lies & Videotape'), but I have 'Tuff...' and it is a good one. Of course, I think all of us have 'Back to the Future' in our Top 25. But I don't know why I forgot 'Bull Durham' when drafting my list. I still have the DVD, but the Criterion Collection BluRay is on the list for their next sale...

    Great list . I have watched and own and love every title you showed. I wish I had bloodsport on a better format. Only have the dvd.
    Mischief is so good and underrated . Have it on dvd on a double feature with license to drive. Took me years to find for a good price. Any of these that didn't make my list could have. Since I said before we have alot of the same taste.
    Still trying to get marie to watch scarface. But the run time always stops her from watching.
    Marie and I made a video of ours. If you didn't see. If you need something to put you to sleep can put on. Haha

  • @johnpublic7796

    I like The Terminator better than T2 despite having seen T2 first back when it first came out on home video. When I saw T2, I only knew Arnold to be a good guy in things, so I totally didn't get it when watching T2 when Arnold pulled the shotgun out of the roses box (Guns N Roses nod) that Arnold had been the bad guy in the first movie. At that point, I hadn't even seen Arnold in many movies. I had seen parts of Predator, parts of Twins, and Kindergarten Cop, and he was all over TV. Anyhow, I didn't really get the significance of that scene until seeing The Terminator, in which I was shocked and confused as to why/how Arnold was the bad guy. The first movie is more of a sci-fi Slasher with regular humans up against an unstoppable machine from the future and that just worked for me more than T2.
