CBD is a great option. I believe our pets are here w us for a season of our lives. Sucks when they die. For that reason alone, I do not believe in dental care, cancer treatments, or whatever prolongs their suffering for me to selfishly keep them hanging on longer. I also don't have a problem of being snuffed out by a pillow should my mind or body deteriorate. Its been a great ride !

One of my outside cats left a mouse on the doorstep and I did not have my glasses on ... all I heard was crunching so if it was not dead, it sure was after that.
I would not speak for Matthew, but my wee girl Holly is presenting precisely like Stella. I hate this part of pet guardianship, but our gift and responsibility to them is to keep them comfy, safe and loved. When the day comes that you know it is time, the kindest thing IMHO is to be with them as they gently cross to the Rainbow Bridge. They are always in our hearts so they never truly die. I have had to do this many times and within 6 months euthanized 2 of my Newfoundland dogs. Thought I would die of grief, but remembering them and their antics makes me smile to this day.

Stella looks as though she's lost weight the last few vlogs. I hope it's nothing serious. Definitely the hardest part of being a guardian, my beautiful rescue boys both lived to 20 and made life an absolute joy
Don't do the other tests, if Stella had cancer, they can tell from her blood work, exrays were not nessisary for what you went in for. If her blood is fine, her weight loss is probably because she is an older cat, that's what happens. Don't be trapped into spending more money. So glad Stella is okay.
Totally agree with you, treatments and specialists can run into the thousands. Cancer drugs for instance generally only prolong their life 4-6 mos. and makes them miserable. Dentals espec on older animals with extractions run $600, rediculous! My 15-16 yr old dogs, one just lost two teeth on her own LOL

Tough news about Stella, my heart goes out to you and the girls. As a cat owner, I have gone through this many times, especially when they live so long. Like you said, as long as they're happy and not in pain, just keep on loving them. Great video, Matthew.
Might be just age. My cat Harley started losing weight around 16. Maybe 1/2 lb - 1 lb a year. She was always an 11 1/2 lb cat. She lived to one month shy of 20 years old. She ate, drank water, pooped/peed normally just lost weight! Prayers everything turns out good! Just feed them, love them as long as neither are in any kind of pain!
My beautiful girl Baby died in September 2021 of cancer. She was a rescue cat and I adopted her at age 2 by which time she had already had 2 litters and had an awful life with her previous guardians. At least I was able to give her 10 years of love and she gave me 10 years of love back. She died peacefully with her head laying at the feet of my Buddha statue. I know I will meet her again one day in another life and look forward to our love story continuing!💞
Bless you, all our cats have been rescues, When they let you know it is time to let go, they will be waiting at the rainbow bridge for us when our time comes ❤

Our grocery prices, what we can still get, has TRIPLED in less than 2 years. Our fuel, as every nation, has quadrupled and rent has went up 60 to 75% Cat food is scarce, dry and can, amongst so much more! So if there is anyone who enjoys Matthew and his vlogs, but can't afford to financially donate, I know Matthew still loves us too! And understands the hardships of life, we've all suffered them. First of all I just want to say how much I'm loving watching these. & I know how much fun you must be having making them! Secondly, I'm sorry. I was afraid that's what the vet was going to say. I lost my sweet Irie last year. She was 16 and had lost a lot of weight in a relatively short amount of time. We had the same conversation with the vet and as a family. We just loved on her like crazy for about 6months. Then one day it was just time. I still feel weird not feeding her while i wait for my morning coffee, or hearing her purr when I lay down to sleep. Give Stella lots of love from all of us.

I know it’s tough, I just spent $6K on vet bills for my dog in a couple of months time, who passed shortly thereafter. He was a senior. But we gotta do what we can to make them comfortable and see if we can do anything to help. If not, as you said, one of the hardest responsibilities of being the parent of a pet is to know when it’s time to help them pass. It’s very good sign that Stella is eating, poo’ing normally and in good spirits, maybe Miss Penny is just stealing her food 🤨. Wishing the best for you all!
Yuuup. Wasn’t even surgery involved, except they took a little cyst off his elbow while he was there. He was diagnosed with Cushings Disease and the tests alone are astronomical. That’s US Dollars. I would have paid anything to make him more comfortable. Most of us would. Some vets take advantage of that, some don’t. Took him back to my regular vet (even though he was really far away) and costs reduced by HALF. Which means some vets overcharge by a lot.
Happy to hear that there's nothing immediately wrong with Stella, I experienced my first loss of a furry family member when our hedgehog passed at the new year and it's still rough. Good vibes to her and your back, both!

My mom's cat lost slot of weight from cancer but significantly improved after my mom started having her drink dandelion tea & lived alot longer than expected.
I’ve seen a cat lose extreme weight as a decline to the end, and it took a very long time, so Stella might have a very long time yet. Such a sweet girl. Even with a little spiciness. Going into the carrier as if asking to go home.
I'm really hoping that the unexpected news is that Stella is perfectly healthy for a cat her age. If not... Well then you have my deepest condolences, losing a pet sucks. My dog Buddy died very unexpectedly two years ago. He was only ten.
I’m sorry Stella is not feeling her best. She’s a beautiful girl. As someone who has several inside and outside cats, it is always hard when our fur babies get older and their health declines. In the last two years I’ve said goodbye to three of my babies and soon I will have to make that choice for another one. Give Stella all your love and you will know when it’s time to make that decision. Hugs.

You are so right, knowing someday our beloved furry buddies will need our help to pass comfortably is so hard because we love them so much. Our last kitty " Tipsey" was 22years old when she finally looked at me one morning and I knew it was time to help her pass.. Tipsey was born in the EastEnd of London on my daughters 10th birthday. They grew up together. When we moved back to the States Tipsey got her own passport and flew with us. She moved everywhere we went with us. Enjoy the time you have and bless you for keeping her close to you, she loves being with you. There is no better last chapter than spending it with those you love.
My cat has lasted longer than any of my girlfriends...lol. My cat will be 23yrs old in summer of 2023. In 2019 took him in too see a vet. They told me that after some tests & $500 later my cat will need 2 teeth pulled & surgery on his chin. Cost over $3100, also the cat will not survive the surgery. Did not go through with the surgery or teeth pulling. He is still alive today, brush his teeth probably about 6 times a day. No issues with his eating or pooping. Vet told me to give the cat some restoralax in wet food too soften his stool. Love my Cat!!!
Stella is such a wonderful friend. And she may have lost weight but she sure seems pretty happy and contient. We just love our fur babies, they are a big part of our family.

I've been down this road before, and all I can say is that it does suck. If there is any consolation, it is that animals have the privilege of having us keep them as comfortable and safe as they deserve until the time that it is no longer pain free for them.
I had the unfortunate task of putting my senior cat, and my dog down, one week apart in 2020. Such a caring but difficult thing to do for our best friends. I wish you and yours lots of continued quality time together; however long that may be. They are such true pals. -Bonnie

I have had dogs and cats all my life. They all lived to double digits. The dog I did the most tests on didn’t live any longer than the ones I refused tests for. It’s one thing to test a young animal when it is unusually sick but older animals - it’s just not worth it. Test results bring worries and guilt and of course, vets love to see you spend money. Over time I’ve come to understand that as long as they can feed themselves, potty themselves and aren’t in pain (withdrawing to sleep more or in the case of dogs, panting and being restless), if they are older - I avoid tests like the plague. It’s a huge expense with no advantage when the animal is over 10 years of age. Save your money, spoil her and just be mindful of her comfort. The best thing you can do is plan her exit from this world with as little fuss and as much love as you can give. Good luck - you are a good and conscientious pet owner and she is a lucky cat to have you.
Pets are wonderful, but like all live creatures they have a season. I say it's best not to know too much. Keep an eye on her because you know her best. Until then spoil her and love her as that's all she wants and needs.

Yea, it's hard to tell if you're cat is sick because their nature is to hide being sick. My cat showed no symptoms until one day she couldn't walk straight 😢. Anyway, you're such a good cat daddy, just follow your heart and keep loving your girls and taking good care of them..
I've been in your spot a few times with my furbabies...it's hard...but loving them thru it and enjoying what time we have is what I have had to do. They don't understand other stuff....take good care of yourself and love on your furbabies. Hope your back feels better!
Stella reminds me of my 16 year old cat. She got really skinny but was “healthy ” according to the vet’s. It sucks big time when our family gets sick all I can say is to love Stella and make the best of the time she has left. Make sure she is not in pain and when the time comes remember the hard choice is for the better. Keep positive and one day at a time.
Hiya sweetie, I too have a 16 yo cat. His name is Bailey. He is slowing down. His biggest problem is arthritis. He takes meds for the pain. Not a lot of pain, but still, that’s my baby boy 😢☮️

No idea how you stayed calm. I took my cat in to see why he was vomiting and peeing so much and was stressed out. Unfortunately, I got gut punched when they said renal failure. It's shocking to get a terminal diagnosis so bluntly. I tip my hat to you for recording such a private moment with your cat. #catdad

My cat loves his carrier. He will get into it simply when asked to in order to come on road trips with me. He also very occasionally uses it at home. I keep it accessible after we survived a four alarm condo fire on 2018. That night the carrier was in our building basement storage room out of reach. I spent hours pacing on the sidewalk until the fire crew were able to use a borrowed carrier to rescue him once the fire was under control and being watched for hot spots. Our cat and I learnt to love his cat carrier that night.

Sorry to hear about Stella. I had to put down my 15 year old cat just before the holidays. Saddest day ever. Mine also lost lots of weight. His problem was not drinking so his kidneys went out and I had to put him down. I know all about vet bills. I live in Niagara Falls Ontario and the local humane society here took care of the euthanasia for a fraction of what a veterinary office would charge. If it comes to the worst case scenario see if Calgary has that at your local human society. Wishing Stella the best.
Hope it works out man...losing an animal SUX...my brother has a cat...similar story, started losing weight drastically and is 19, they did the testing and it actually turned out to be a vitamin issue?? If i remember correctly... Whatever they were feeding her didn't have enough of whatever nutrients the cat needed, they changed her diet and she's still around. She was literal skin and bones.
I hope Stella will be ok. I have a few farm cats out here and I try not to give them names cus they seem to come and go. The only time I can pet them is when I bring out the food bag, and then they are all my best friend. Great video as always and we will see you in the next one.
Shes so good for a tortie. Usually when I called for both my 2 torties I called and let them know ahead of time I was bringing in a tortie. Their known for being temperamental. My one tortie was 16 when she lost alot of weight and it was cancer she lived to 18.
Just know that Stella is fine as long as she is eating, pooping, and engaged in her everyday life. She will let you know when/if it's that "time." You'll have plenty of time to mourn if she leaves you. But for now, you spoil her and love her like you've always done.
I really hope Stella doesn’t have cancer because I love your kitties. I’ve got cats too and I know how devastated I would be if something happened to them.

I live with chronic sciatic pain. My L5 vertebrae is shifted forward 7mm so my spinal cord and the nerves don’t have as much space as they should. I don’t like the idea of surgery so I’m on a mission to drop 50lbs as I know that will make a huge difference! Other than that, ask your doctor about gabapentin if it persists. I hope seeing a chiropractor helps you though!

I lost my sweet Irie last year. She was 16 and had lost a lot of weight in a relatively short amount of time. We had the same conversation with the vet and as a family. We just loved on her like crazy for about 6months. Then one day it was just time. I still feel weird not feeding her while i wait for my morning coffee, or hearing her purr when I lay down to sleep. Give Stella lots of love from all of us.

I know it’s tough, I just spent $6K on vet bills for my dog in a couple of months time, who passed shortly thereafter. He was a senior. But we gotta do what we can to make them comfortable and see if we can do anything to help. If not, as you said, one of the hardest responsibilities of being the parent of a pet is to know when it’s time to help them pass. It’s very good sign that Stella is eating, poo’ing normally and in good spirits, maybe Miss Penny is just stealing her food 🤨. Wishing the best for you all!
Yuuup. Wasn’t even surgery involved, except they took a little cyst off his elbow while he was there. He was diagnosed with Cushings Disease and the tests alone are astronomical. That’s US Dollars. I would have paid anything to make him more comfortable. Most of us would. Some vets take advantage of that, some don’t. Took him back to my regular vet (even though he was really far away) and costs reduced by HALF. Which means some vets overcharge by a lot.
Happy to hear that there's nothing immediately wrong with Stella, I experienced my first loss of a furry family member when our hedgehog passed at the new year and it's still rough. Good vibes to her and your back, both!

My mom's cat lost slot of weight from cancer but significantly improved after my mom started having her drink dandelion tea & lived alot longer than expected.

I’ve seen a cat lose extreme weight as a decline to the end, and it took a very long time, so Stella might have a very long time yet. Such a sweet girl. Even with a little spiciness. Going into the carrier as if asking to go home.
I'm really hoping that the unexpected news is that Stella is perfectly healthy for a cat her age. If not... Well then you have my deepest condolences, losing a pet sucks. My dog Buddy died very unexpectedly two years ago. He was only ten.

I’m sorry Stella is not feeling her best. She’s a beautiful girl. As someone who has several inside and outside cats, it is always hard when our fur babies get older and their health declines. In the last two years I’ve said goodbye to three of my babies and soon I will have to make that choice for another one. Give Stella all your love and you will know when it’s time to make that decision. Hugs.

You are so right, knowing someday our beloved furry buddies will need our help to pass comfortably is so hard because we love them so much. Our last kitty " Tipsey" was 22years old when she finally looked at me one morning and I knew it was time to help her pass.. Tipsey was born in the EastEnd of London on my daughters 10th birthday. They grew up together. When we moved back to the States Tipsey got her own passport and flew with us. She moved everywhere we went with us. Enjoy the time you have and bless you for keeping her close to you, she loves being with you. There is no better last chapter than spending it with those you love.

My cat has lasted longer than any of my girlfriends...lol. My cat will be 23yrs old in summer of 2023. In 2019 took him in too see a vet. They told me that after some tests & $500 later my cat will need 2 teeth pulled & surgery on his chin. Cost over $3100, also the cat will not survive the surgery. Did not go through with the surgery or teeth pulling. He is still alive today, brush his teeth probably about 6 times a day. No issues with his eating or pooping. Vet told me to give the cat some restoralax in wet food too soften his stool. Love my Cat!!!
Stella is such a wonderful friend. And she may have lost weight but she sure seems pretty happy and contient. We just love our fur babies, they are a big part of our family.

I've been down this road before, and all I can say is that it does suck. If there is any consolation, it is that animals have the privilege of having us keep them as comfortable and safe as they deserve until the time that it is no longer pain free for them.
I had the unfortunate task of putting my senior cat, and my dog down, one week apart in 2020. Such a caring but difficult thing to do for our best friends. I wish you and yours lots of continued quality time together; however long that may be. They are such true pals. -Bonnie

Spent 1100 back in 1995 for hip surgery on my puppy after getting hit by a car. Probably be 3300 today. Nikki lived another 15 years after that.

I have had dogs and cats all my life. They all lived to double digits. The dog I did the most tests on didn’t live any longer than the ones I refused tests for. It’s one thing to test a young animal when it is unusually sick but older animals - it’s just not worth it. Test results bring worries and guilt and of course, vets love to see you spend money. Over time I’ve come to understand that as long as they can feed themselves, potty themselves and aren’t in pain (withdrawing to sleep more or in the case of dogs, panting and being restless), if they are older - I avoid tests like the plague. It’s a huge expense with no advantage when the animal is over 10 years of age. Save your money, spoil her and just be mindful of her comfort. The best thing you can do is plan her exit from this world with as little fuss and as much love as you can give. Good luck - you are a good and conscientious pet owner and she is a lucky cat to have you.

Pets are wonderful, but like all live creatures they have a season. I say it's best not to know too much. Keep an eye on her because you know her best. Until then spoil her and love her as that's all she wants and needs.
I recently lost my senior dog to cancer. It took hundreds of dollars just to get a diagnosis and spent countless hours of worrying every day. Enjoy the time you have with your kitties as much as you can while they are doing good. There is only so much you can do after you have spent all the money and time to try and save our pets. I'm sure you know all of this. Hoping it is nothing serious and Stella has many more quality years.

Yea, it's hard to tell if you're cat is sick because their nature is to hide being sick. My cat showed no symptoms until one day she couldn't walk straight 😢. Anyway, you're such a good cat daddy, just follow your heart and keep loving your girls and taking good care of them..
I've been in your spot a few times with my furbabies...it's hard...but loving them thru it and enjoying what time we have is what I have had to do. They don't understand other stuff....take good care of yourself and love on your furbabies. Hope your back feels better!
Stella reminds me of my 16 year old cat. She got really skinny but was “healthy ” according to the vet’s. It sucks big time when our family gets sick all I can say is to love Stella and make the best of the time she has left. Make sure she is not in pain and when the time comes remember the hard choice is for the better. Keep positive and one day at a time.

No idea how you stayed calm. I took my cat in to see why he was vomiting and peeing so much and was stressed out. Unfortunately, I got gut punched when they said renal failure. It's shocking to get a terminal diagnosis so bluntly. I tip my hat to you for recording such a private moment with your cat. #catdad

My cat loves his carrier. He will get into it simply when asked to in order to come on road trips with me. He also very occasionally uses it at home. I keep it accessible after we survived a four alarm condo fire on 2018. That night the carrier was in our building basement storage room out of reach. I spent hours pacing on the sidewalk until the fire crew were able to use a borrowed carrier to rescue him once the fire was under control and being watched for hot spots. Our cat and I learnt to love his cat carrier that night.

Sorry to hear about Stella. I had to put down my 15 year old cat just before the holidays. Saddest day ever. Mine also lost lots of weight. His problem was not drinking so his kidneys went out and I had to put him down. I know all about vet bills. I live in Niagara Falls Ontario and the local humane society here took care of the euthanasia for a fraction of what a veterinary office would charge. If it comes to the worst case scenario see if Calgary has that at your local human society. Wishing Stella the best.
Hope it works out man...losing an animal SUX...my brother has a cat...similar story, started losing weight drastically and is 19, they did the testing and it actually turned out to be a vitamin issue?? If i remember correctly... Whatever they were feeding her didn't have enough of whatever nutrients the cat needed, they changed her diet and she's still around. She was literal skin and bones.

Shes so good for a tortie. Usually when I called for both my 2 torties I called and let them know ahead of time I was bringing in a tortie. Their known for being temperamental. My one tortie was 16 when she lost alot of weight and it was cancer she lived to 18.

Just know that Stella is fine as long as she is eating, pooping, and engaged in her everyday life. She will let you know when/if it's that "time." You'll have plenty of time to mourn if she leaves you. But for now, you spoil her and love her like you've always done.

I live with chronic sciatic pain. My L5 vertebrae is shifted forward 7mm so my spinal cord and the nerves don’t have as much space as they should. I don’t like the idea of surgery so I’m on a mission to drop 50lbs as I know that will make a huge difference!
Other than that, ask your doctor about gabapentin if it persists. I hope seeing a chiropractor helps you though!
