You can also look at the line counter on your reel when your digital reader is out of commission. You just have to reset it to zero after you deploy and connect your terminal tackle. Thats what you do when you dont have a counter on the downrigger. Trying to help.
I found that if use parts markers to mark things that needed marked, it helps reduce the confusion....like twin down rigger weights. Thanks for the nice video!
Thank you so very much for that. I have been looking for something like this for a long time and you just made my year. Yes you’re correct cringing when you overload the clip and pop then you have to start all over again and waste fishing time especially when you’re going over your favourite spot
Yep I can confirm Scotty stands behind their product. I upgraded from the 1106 riggers to the 2106's. Wasn't too long before one of my digital counters had moisture in it and quit working. Reached out to scotty and they sent me a new one asap. They said there was a bad batch from Thailand can were sending me one no questions asked. I just had to send a photo of the defective counter serial #. I put the scotty covers on them now when we are not fishing...as a preventative. I also love the Chamberlain release. Ran them in 2020-21, then switched to Blacks release in 22-23. Both work well but my fav is Chamberlain for the reasons you described. Going to switch to 1 of each for '24 season as I need to convince my fishing 1st mate.
Sounds good. I will do that JC and will explain when to run short leads or long leads depending on what you see on your sonar. Also lead length between flasher and fly or spoon!
Thanks for sharing. I switch from scotty clip to this release clip. Definitely better, can load my rod a lot harder and the clip doing its work right to release line even a herring size baby salmon bite. Love it
Great video Kevin going to switch releases. Do you max out the tension clip going up so you can load the rod like crazy if so if you don't get a fish at the end of day won't it be hard to manually trip it?
I run these releases as well, I’ve notice I get a lot of chafing on my fluorocarbon line where the release attaches, do you have similar problems? Maybe I’m twisting the line too much. Didn’t know if you had run into this problem and found a good solution.
Supposedly yes but most of the shops won't do it, you'll have to deal with scotty directly. You can modify the cover to accept a manual counter however.
Nice but could not see anything when you clipped it first time in the release as your hand is in the way..tx Good releases for sure but cumbersome for us older folks
No, I’m not worried about the bend in the rod. That clicker is driving me out of my mind. Silence that damn thing. Good Lord, man. Have you no sense of acoustic decency? 😂 Thanks for the tutorial. Great information.
Mechanical releases can damage line and also false release. I stopped using them years ago. I am 76 now and the best release in my opinion is a rubber band. I would never use a mechanical release. Rubber bands are way better and faster to use.
The important information for the proper use of the release you were showing had to do with the connection to the down rigger and leader. Your hands hid the connection in the video and you didn't explain the procedure. Then the rod holder blocked the view. You should scrap this video and try it again.

Great tip!
Thank you Kevin for all the tips. You really know your stuff. I've learned more fishing tips off you than those guys that have tv shows! 👍🏼
You know all this stuff now Buddy! But I will be doing a bunch of videos like thus explains more stuff!!

Great video Kevin, that is some very good tips for rigger clips for sure. Keep the information coming. 👍🎣
Will do buddy!! You keep smashing fish I am going to have to dig out my flasher and flys again! Your killing it out there Bob!
Great video. Question; what is the disadvantage of having your cannonball pulled up out of horizontal? Thanks!
Best I've used is Sam's pro release. Can set them up on a leash like a Scotty or cannon but work a lot like these.
Great vid would like to see a video of leads off cannonball and fishing with flashers 👍

Where can we get the chamberlain release and stacker in Canada?
Would you recommend to just get the scotty with a manual counter? Im about ready to buy the ones with digital.

What is the reason for putting twist in the line?
Best pinch clip, maybe. The adjustable ones are much more precise. Pro Release, Chamberlain, etc. are the ones for serious downrigger fishermen.
If you watch the video the best release i am referring to is the Chamberlain! ;)

This would have worked great on my recent trip, guides had it buried hoping for the monsters and they just weren't around.
That's the issue.
Great job cameraman great job showing us that rod holder
the ONLY thing I needed to see and I get a beautiful look at the pole holder tube. Jeez. Thanks, I guess?
U running braid on you rdownrigger in this video? Do you use the Scotty Sure Stop Pro?
here, watch the rod holder while I connect all the important rigging
Had a shark bite off my Scotty clip as I was retrieving the weight 🤣🤣
Are you running braid on your downrigger rod?
my scotty manuel counter also fail. 2 this year. Do they warranty them?
Supposedly yes but most of the shops won't do it, you'll have to deal with scotty directly. You can modify the cover to accept a manual counter however.

why do you twist the line befoer you put it on the downrigger?
it keeps the line from slipping on the chamberlain clip.
@@FoxFishing4K what about scptty clip?
Nice video man
Thanks

I like your perfection. I will redo this video with much better detail. Perhaps while the boat is on the trailer and not out in the water.
