My friend was one of the first people to get one of these. A couple days after they arrived at dealerships. She traded in her grand Cherokee for a passport touring. She loves it.
I recently traded in my 2021 Acura RDX (SH-AWD + Technology) after 3 months of ownership, for a 2021 Honda Passport Touring. The reason being the shallow hatch height of 30” in the Acura, which prevented me from putting in a full-size dog crate that’s 31” tall, and could not fit even my medium-sized mountain bike within the hatch area. These are just regular use cases and Acura’s design team need to be fired for not considering these. The 2022 MDX, a much larger vehicle, also has the same 30” hatch height problem.
For comparison, the Honda CRV’s hatch is 36” tall (a sheer marvel in packaging) and the Honda Pilot and Honda Passport have 33-34” of hatch height. My new 2021 Honda Passport Touring meets all of my utility vehicle needs……can easily fit the dog crate, can easily swallow up the mountain bike.
Having said that, Acura is not the only culprit here…….the Subaru Ascent, the Subaru Forester, the Subaru Crosstrek, the Toyota RAV4 are all in the unusably shallow hatch height category and it is a shame to call these utility vehicles, if they cannot cater to such mundane use cases.
Glad you mentioned the mountain bike. I was considering this now that I am looking at vehicle’s. I have a mountain bike with kinda wide handle bars and was curious if it would fit well in the back if a passport.

It’s weird to think that this is actually longer than my first generation Pilot which is only 188 inches with 3 usable rows. Cars have gotten so big over the last ten years

I think this will hit a sweet spot for most people. Not too big not too small. Honda will sell these like hotcakes.

Great Video! Did you happen to drive the vehicle at highway speeds to determine if ride quality was equal to that of the pilot.
We did not. However, I will say that despite Honda stiffening the springs ever so slightly, we couldn't tell any difference from the Pilots great ride quality

Where is the control for switching from 2-Wheel Drive to 4-Wheel Drive?
How good is the four wheel drive system on challenging conditions. Need an SUV for snow conditions and able to drive in slippery conditions. Like the Honda but not sure it will come close to my Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland.
thomas medeiros my friend traded in her grand Cherokee for this. She loved it. This does have torque vectoring AWD.
I remember the Honda Passport, Isuzu Rodeo, and Vauxhall Frontera from days gone by. They were not terrible, but not refined enough.
As far as if I could have any 2019 year model 5 seat crossover, I think the Cupra Ateca R is one of the best offerings globally. Of course not available in the US. Its a VW derivative, but IMO better than anything VW is offering in the class.
With all these remote features on new vehicles, what is the probability of the vehicle being hacked for entry. & remote start ?

How are the arm rests? I have the old Passport and have the arm rest over the center console. This is comfortable. I am worried that the small pull down arm rest might not be sufficient. Just curious what you observed doing the test drive and if it was sufficient?
I have a 2012 Honda Odyssey EX-L with the same armrest and I have used it on long trips. it does fine.
They're comfortable and wider than they look at first glance. Also they adjust so we have no qualms about the arm rests

I work at a Honda dealership and you are mistaken about the color options. There is no Beige interior option, only black or gray.

I don't know why exactly, but this vehicle feels a little rushed. It's like Honda saying "mine too" in the latest off road capable above compact size SUVs segment like Murano, Edge, Blazer and the new Santa Fe. So Honda just decided to have a competitor of their own. This vehicle could definitely have had a different look than Pilot and a wider stance too. Don't know, I would most probably pass on this one, get the latest Rav-4 or the new Forester and wait for "an all new" Passport after 2-3 years.
Murano is much more luxurious, more an alternative to a Lexus RX than a competitor to the Passport. Edge is a bit sportier on road while Outback is a bit more capable off road. Passport tries to bridge off road ability and on road dynamics. Versatility is Honda’s key to success

I love the review of the Honda passport 2019, but I don’t no what is (inch). Because I am Canadian and in Canada we use (cm) centimètre. Well I don’t know how to compare inch to cm. Just add on centimètre in your video for people like me who don’t no what is (inch) and the rest is good.

Just offer the V6 option for the CR-V and be done with it.
So we now have 3 versions of the Pilot. One that removes the 3rd row, one has a bed, and the normal Pilot.

the problem with passport its suppose to be a middle suv between CRV and PILOT but the price is more expensive than a pilot starting base is $32890 to 44,790 ..... to much .....
Island Prince passport don’t have a base LX trim, it starts at sport. If you compare EX-L to EX-L, or Touring to Touring, or Elite to Elite, you will find that Passport is few thousands cheaper.

Yeah by a huge margin, it is basically a Pilot but shorter in length, but taller in height. If looking at numbers, the Passport is 10 inches longer, 6 inches wider, and 6 inches taller than the CRV.
It's huge. I thought it would have been a Crosstrek sized car...
Most cars in that segment are hideous imo.
That AC fan is a definitely louder than usual.
All in all, this product definitely feels unfinished and rushed. Will wait for the next generation Passport, if Honda ever thinks to bring one. Otherwise, I see no reason getting this over the new Rav-4 or Forestor. Or even Santa Fe (which may be a bit less on power, but definitely feels well thought out and much better interior, not the space though)

Retiredandlovinglife yes basically every car with sunroof will be noise specially in highways. I’m currently leasing a 2018 forester xt and I love the power with turbo. I’m considering to trade it in for 2019 forester cause the new style and redesign plus the apple car play and android auto.
I test the 2019 rav4 and it was terrible the road noise ( I test it in the city I can imagine how terrible will sounds in highway) I would wait for the 2020 rav4 because has better quality interior. Toyota still using same quality interior since 2017.

Joan auditts the Forester doesn’t even compare in relation to the size of the Passport. I’ll take the refinement and reliability of the Honda over the Subaru.
This SUV would have been my favorite in this segment only if it was a bit more wider, like 3 or 3 and half inches wider. That would have made it roomier inside and much more stable and grounded during cornering, as one can already tell it tilts a bit too much when cornering even slightly sharp turns.
Why the hell no passport or pilot in Australia, what the hell is the deal Honda? Only cr v which is so bad for having the only SUV in Australia :/
Great review as usual. I still think the Honda has just made it a 2-row Pilot with bigger wheels and black trim. Some people will prefer 6 cylinders. I like my panoramic views in my 2019 Santa Fe Limited 2.0T FWD.
Love my limited Sante Fe. Still getting use to the Turbo. I really wanted the RDX. Thank God my boyfriend told me to check out the Samte Fe. My only regret is i didnt get the ultimate l

Absolutely no issues. I liked the Ultimate, but I didn't think the extra money was worth heated seats, heated steering wheel, heads up display and navigation (I use mt phone for navigation). It rides well. I get around 25 mpg in mixed driving. Love the BlueLink with the remote start. Warranty cant be beat. Traded a Honda Odyssey for this Santa Fe.
Love everything about this car.... Except that display cluster? Good lord looks really cheap/outdated and doesn't not go well with the rest of that beautiful interior.
you sure hit the nail on the head....Honda is the best looking of the bunch, but that display is pathetic. How cheap!
add in that horrible piano black trim. It screams CHEAP plastic. Shiny, will be so dirty and I don't want reflective surfaces that will blind me a few times when the sun hits it right. The fingerprints are going to be showing up all the time. MATTE please or some other soft touch plastice or even faux wood or something...hate the piano black and hate that intstrument cluster, especially digital MPG (heads up is fine, but give me nice analog gauge for RPM and MPG please.

Auto start stop on all trims? Annoying as heck.. I will pass.. I didn't buy the RDX for the same reason.
You can shut that off after starting it before taking off. (A Off button ) on the middle console under the shift buttons.
So what did you end up buying???
you can also buy a cheap part and have it turned off all the time, annoying but avoidable. stop start ruins parts faster too

I'm not interesting in paying over 39 thousand dollars for the passport. The 2019 forester has more options under 35 thousand dollars with panoramic sunroof apple car and heated steering wheel,AWD.
where do you get 39k? don't you negotiate your car purchases? Bet you haven't drove the Forester back to back against the Pilot or Passport? Problem I'm having is the Passport vs the Telluride....you sure get a lot for your money
with the Telluride. Sadly the AWD only works under 40 MPH, no matter what.
Retiredandlovinglife share your tricks about purchasing cars. I owned 2016 forester for 3 years and I traded it in with a 2018 forester with turbo and they are very comfortable cars no issues in 4 years.
Passport is ok but I hate the interior style and they are pricey, go check it out. I would prefer the telluride but right now I drive a lot and I don’t need a V6 Enginee. Telluride reminds me to a Land Rover
