While I understand the point of therapy grad programs is to grow us as therapists, I feel like the field does us a disservice by not prodiving resources for those of us who want to go into private practice. Those years we are associate licensed can be some of the hardest because we aren't paid adequately in CMH, and not every state gives the option to do PP as an associate licensed clinician. Then to go into PP and still struggle because we now have to balance being a therapist and a business owner adds another layer of frustration. I'm glad so many therapists are working to fill in the gaps, but it shouldn't be on us to do so.
Yessssss 🙌🏻 One of things I want to hopefully do next year is pitch to go into graduate school classes or do free workshops for students. I’ve had a few colleagues invite me to their courses to speak or student psych organizations and every time the students gain so much 🫶. We needed business courses tailored to the field desperately!
Loved this video! Is it possible to do a more in depth video about how being a therapist is mentally? or any tips on how to know if the career is for me? I have been thinking of going to school to become a social worker, or counsellor. I am fresh out of high-school, and during my last year of school I have thought of counselling, my reasoning is because I love the idea of helping/ supporting others, because of my past experiences I want to be that support. But to be honest I don't know if I see myself being able to sit down and talk 1 on 1 without being awkward? Because I get anxious. Thank you!
I can definitely make another video talking about this more in depth in the future. My encouragement is that most of us feel awkward going into it and it takes practice which is something you will do in the grad program plus your internship. Hope that helps a little.
Omgosh & your a therapist. I would love to have you on my podcast/youtube channel. My audience is ADHD professionals and entrepreneurs and about the same size as yours.
Wow those salaries sound low to me as a therapist in Canada. I am an MSW with almost 20 years experience. Average salaries here for a therapist are in the 90-115K range for full-time work in a hospital or university. Private practice wages are $80 to $160 per hour (depending on whether you are working for an agency or yourself).
It's insane how little community mental health/state gov pay their therapist starting out. Private practice rates are around the same some states much higher like california or new york with some therapist rates up to $200+. I don't regret starting in community mental health though it has made me more resilient in private practice but do wish business education was part of the curriculum so more students can get into private practice and get paid what they deserve.
@cafewithmonica community mental health jobs generally are lower salary here too. I started out as a community mental health social worker and my starting salary was around 40K, however that was almost 20 years ago.
It can definitely get expensive. I don't believe there are any regulated coaching programs so keep that in mind. Technically anyone can become a life coach without a formal education in it.
Watching your video while travelling back home from a trip. Thank you for sharing this content with us 🙏 ❤
This makes me so happy to hear! Where are you traveling home from!? I hope it was a great time!
@@cafewithmonica I had a great time! I visited a city in the Czech Republic 🇨🇿

Thank you for sharing your TH-cam brainstorming template. I love how simple and straightforward it is. ❤
You are so welcome!
I love your brainstorming template for your videos! It seems like a great way to make a task that could be overwhelming easier to act on.
Thanks it really does help me not feel stuck and have a starting point.

I am looking at on becoming a Christian Life Coach. Too many programs to choose from. So expensive.
