TeamRICHEY I honestly think Speed and Size aren’t compatible the balance is so hard and I think Strength suffers the most when it comes to evening out, others will know far more than myself just an opinion.
@@anthonygibson437 It might suffer somewhat but neither the mile time nor what these guys are able to lift is something to scoff at. The aim of crossfit is to be good at everything and not really special at anything. You could argue the top crossfit's athletes are really good at everything so considering their size it makes it impressive.
This one reappeared in my timeline inspired me to test. I had been doing a bit more running because of gym closure. When I started I was around 7min mile my PR was 6:37. Hit 5:55 as a 49 year old I’m happy with that. Keep inspiring.
Being an athlete (Track & field) I’m so glad you broke down some of the info at the end (1609m etc) I would put money on the top crossfitters running sub 5 mins and squatting 500lb in the very near future. If your ever down in Essex and fancy a track session hit me up
Hey Craig, sick content continues. Just wanted to add a random fact that might blow your mind - Eliud Kipchoge, the GOAT of marathon running recently broke the WR. The best mile here, at 5.07 averages at about 76s per lap for 4 laps. Kipchoge averaged 68s per lap. For 2 hours. 😳🤯
TrueFilter yup. They’re the decathletes of the fitness world. You wouldn’t expect a decathlete to get into their country’s tram for any of the individual events but overall they are considered the best athletes in the world. Same here.
boohoo397? Decathletes are the Decathletes of the fitness world. These guys are a million miles behind. Strength, power, endurance, speed, aerobics. That's what fitness is.
Really great analysis, helped to put the times in perspective. Some great footage as well of the runners and what that amount of mass looks like moving so fast.
Amazing that a guy as big as Zack George ran a 5:25 mile...the content was sick bro, loved the facts on the mile and it really puts things into perspective for CrossFit athletes...I do think a crossfit athlete will eventually run a sub 5:00 mile and will squat 500lbs. On a side note it blows my mind that 7 people would actually give these vlogs a thumbs down, just shows that their will always be haters out there. Keep up the great work!
Great video as usual. I love the inclusion of fitness tips and insights when you include them. I really think if this kind of content was added on a regular basis your subs would skyrocket.
Good article Craig. Good research. I was a little surprised the cross fitters didn't go a bit faster given how fit they are. I am a 62 year old cross fitters,. Relatively new it an completely useless. I can't run to save my life now but as a teenager I was a serious competitive middle distance runner. My best time for the mile was 4 minutes 36 seconds when I had just turned 15 years. It seemed easy to run at that place then which leads to my expectation that the elite cross fitters would be a bit faster.
As a former division 1 distance runner and now above average crossfitter I have an all time best of 4:19 @ ~170 lbs and a crossfit best of 5:06 @ ~200 lbs. 400# back squat since that was also mentioned.
Running is the ultimate SINGLE test of fitness, and the mile is a perfect mid distance race for speed and endurance. CrossFitters should be tested on it more often in my opinion.
I wasn’t aware of that. The 4x100m is so different bc it very far beyond record 400m. 36.84 for the 4 x100m and 43.03 for the 400m. Both events use such different energy systems.
I'm a runner...not a crossfitter. These are very solid times given the size of these guys. It seems they have improved a lot over the years. I think they could get a few more seconds with a better warm-up. I didn't see anyone do any jogging...and strides...only static stretching...which you really don't need.
Yeas. The “500 Club” has been on my mind as a 50th birthday goal since I first heard about it on a Crossfit Games Update show several years ago. Let’s do it. It might take me three years of hard training so I just need to quit my job and stop hanging out with my kids all the darn time.
With all your connections to elite crossfitters, if you do this again with power/weightlifting or a 2km row, or any “standard” event; message Tia, Mat and some of the other guys at the top of the game and get some of their results in to compare to as well!
brandon irwin I respectfully disagree. The biggest issue is that crossfitters are not good at pacing, especially in a running event. How often do we run 1600 for time? It takes roughly 5-7 times to run an event before you understand the pacing. I guarantee you the guy who ran 5:07 would break 5:00 if he had the chance to run it 5 more times without changing his training routine.
Go Ozeni I don’t know the guy who ran 5:07 does he squat 500lbs? My question is which one will be maintainable or would this be a one time thing. Like one rep 500lbs and then train a for sub 5 mile and attempt it 2 months later. Will you still have a 500lbs squat? My body would not maintain the mass to squat 500lbs, personally.
brandon irwin don’t know if he can squat 500. My point is he doesn’t have to train to run sub 5:00. If he ran a 5:07, he can learn to pace it better just by running more 1600 m races. Just imagine if you did any benchmark WOD like grace, Amanda, Karen. The second and third time you do it you will be better because you strategized it better, not because you are more fit. Same goes with running.
Go Ozeni you can look up his crossfit games profile. He does not squat 500lbs. But I agree with you. For me I am closer to a 5 minute mile then a 500lbs squat.
The criteria for race walking is for one foot to remain on the floor at all times. If you appear to have a "flight phase" you get a penalty. You get 3 chances. Most race walkers don't actually walk
I hate to run so I’m trying to run every third day and I’m starting out with a 5 min walk then a half mile jog for four intervals to try and help me get just a little better at those 400 m runs in some METCONS.
Those are impressive times. I do track work 2x a week because running is not something I like doing nor am I good at. I recently had some issues with my knees from running. I can still squat at DL with no major issues. But running hurts and sometimes jumping. I had to give running a break until my knees feel better. Hopefully it's nothing serious...for now I'm just supplementing with elliptical machines and turning up the resistance. No impact, keeps the legs moving is a somewhat running motion. Hope to get my 1.5 mi time down to a 9:30 which is my goal. I hear that aqua jogging is a really effective way to train running when your injured. Has anyone had experience with aqua jogging?
To put things into perspective the fastest guy ran 5:07. Professional marathon runners run sub 5 minute pace for a full marathon. (26.2 miles)Basically these guys are running the same times as like junior high kids.
I thought I was a beast 😂😂. I’m 184 running 5:30 💀💀💀....I only run every so often though. If I trained I could see go low 5 minutes...maybe even lower.
Not bad times considering how heavy these guys are! Back when I weighed 58kg I could run 6 miles at 5:25 pace lol... Now I'm 70kg and my 1 mile pace would be about 5:00 🤣
The reason why most crossfitters will never be elite runners, has less to do with mass, as it has to do with form. Crossfitters emphasize artificial, short term goals of volume and intensity, rather than mastery of form, which in the end is what cripples them from further progressing intensity or volume. Looking at their form, it's as if they never ran a mile in their life, and the only way they were able to achieve even their times despite such clumsy form was their super aerobic capacity, strength, and tolerance of pain.
4.24 for mile footage - 8.15 for Mile time Talk :)
