Back in January of 2020, I spent nearly two weeks exploring the state of Kerala, India. It’s also known as God’s Own Country, as well as the Land of Coconuts. I started my road trip through the state in its capital, Thiruvananthapuram, also known as Trivandrum.
There, I linked up with my friend Vishnu, who graciously took 72 hours out of his schedule to show me all around his city, including his favorite food spots and some of the top attractions in and around the city.

Sites like Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple, Attukal Bhagavathy Temple, and Chalai Bazaar are great places to get a real feel for the local culture and everyday life. You also can’t miss Kovalam Beach, Napier Gardens, and the colossal bird statue at Jatayu Earth’s Center in nearby Chadayamangalam.
But, as expected, it was the food in Trivandrum that truly blew me away. From the beef curry and fresh porottas at Good Morning Hotel to the pazham pori and pothu curry at Edaneram Restaurant, I was in Southern Indian food bliss! And no trip to Trivandrum is complete without having a traditional sadhya feast at Mother’s Veg Plaza.
But, as much as I’d love to tell you all about why Trivandrum is an incredible travel destination, let me just show you in this documentary detailing my 48 hours in the city!

I recently did 23 and me. I've learned that I have equal percentages of South and Northern Indian ancestry. After more digging I learned that my family came from Karela to Guyana 🇬🇾 as indentured servants. Visiting Karela is on my bucket list. My family cooks more like the South Indian cuisine than northern. Love this video David👍🏾

    Good morning David in Dominica
Just finished watching the video. Great job on this one. The content, editing, and continuity were well done. I had to watch it bit by bit though because of it's length, but never lost the essence of it. I love the fact that all the foods you ate had a purpose and meaning behind them: all foods that are good for your digestive system. People can go to a restaurant and leave with a full stomach and not know anything about the food they ate. Not here where all the foods meant something. Your host did a great job explaining how to eat everything that was presented to you. The history of Kerala was very interesting. What a beautiful beach and what a MASSIVE bird sculpture. I don't seem to recall if you mentioned what bird it is because that would have a lot of meaning too. Just wish there was an aerial view to appreciate how huge it is. Thank goodness you are in good shape to do all that walking especially going up and down all those steps. It's good that you are doing these documentaries because we might see things that we may have overlooked previously. Well done. Kudos to you, Nathan and Brandon and your entire team. Blessings as always. Stay safe and blessings to everyone involved.🙏🕊️❤️🇹🇹🇨🇦

only a month ago I went to a week long trip to Kerala. visited Trivendrum, Trissur , Guruvayur and Mannarsala. Absolutely loved the people, the natural surroundings and the temples. the only thing that shocked me was the beef consumption !! my co-passengers in the train had already warned me that it would be very difficult to find vegetarian food in Kerala. Being a vegetarian, I mostly survived on Kadala curry and Appam !! I had no idea about this Sadhya place. Next time definitely eating here.

@@renukasivadas3117 I tried dear but could not find any. Please do give me a small list of vegetarian restaurants in Trivendrum, Kochi ect where I can enjoy the sadhya meals. I love the food items in Sadhya. there is one place in Mumbai called Deluxe restaurant where we do get awesome Kerala meal but wanted to have it in Kerala too with all its authenticity. I plan to go to Kannur, Kochi, Periyar and Kottayam next time. ive heard a lot about Kannur that it is an amazing place.

Hi, it’s not hard to find vegetarian food. Just look for meals ready signs on the streets. Let them know you’re vegetarian and they will bring you vegetarian meals. Which is just Kerala style thali with a whole bunch of different vegetarian side dishes and Sambar. In Kerala, we eat vegetarian food a lot. In my family only once a day we eat fish/chicken/beef/egg. Every other time we try to eat vegetarian. Unless we have guests over then it’s a non veg feast 3 times a day haha😅
