Never noticed they asked the trivia question about youngest player to homer in a postseason game with the soon to be youngest player to do it up coming up in Andrew Jones.
As a kid my older brother would always get Braves tickets through his job. I bet we went to 20+ games in the mid/late 90s. It seemed like every time we went it would be Maddux pitching. After awhile I was like “oh man, Maddux again ?!?”. I’ve seriously seen Smoltz and Glavine pitch maybe twice, every other time was Maddux. Now I realize how lucky I actually was, although Smoltz and Glavine were pretty good too 😂
Easy to forget that in this series-closing 32-1 blitz by Atlanta the Cardinals had their chance here - the 8th inning was when the Braves could have been had. Gant had been hot and knew how to hit his former teammates and Wohlers was shaky. And had he kept it going the heart of the order was up after him. That was their moment but they missed it.
32-1? Edit: nevermind, I forgot that the braves won the previous game by a large margin. I remembered a big game 7 but had forgotten all about this game 6 score
No pitcher on the planet fielded his position better than Greg Maddux. He might not have looked athletic, but he had unbelievable reflexes and lightning quick hands. He would've made a great doubles player in tennis.
I'll concede the 91 series loss, but how tf does peak maddux, glavine and smoltz lose to an average Yankees team in 96? Still pisses me off to this day.
Man, I forgot how umpire Bob Davidson screwed them out of a huge run. This was the Jeffrey Maier year ... also the same postseason when the fat umpire interfered with Jermaine Dye, before Jim Leyritz did his thing.
Was this series one of the first instances of the on-screen scoreboard graphic? If you watch other broadcasts from prior years and even the various LDS series from 96...you never see that on-screen scoreboard. This FOX sport broadcast is so inferior to other broadcasts of this time in every other way...announcers, pregame hype, etc....but man, the scoreboard was a game changer. That's how you take down Costas and Uecker at NBC if you're FOX sports
Fox Sports was already using on-screen scoreboard graphic once they obtained the NFC contract from CBS in 1994. Nobody anticipated Fox to create their own sports division, or becoming a top threat to the established broadcasters of ABC, NBC, or CBS. You noticed how CBS Sports began using the on-screen scoreboard beginning with the NCAA broadcasts during the 1997-98 season and once gaining the AFC contract from NBC. Fox Sports changed the landscape of sports broadcasting into what we watch today.
"Probably?" As much as I miss Skip Caray as a person, he said some pretty durp things. I remember so many times in the '90s when he was like, "Gant has great strength, but those muscles don't really mean anything when you're talking about hitting a baseball." I was like... um... WHAT?! Of course it was proven even more incorrect during the 'roids revelations.
Bob Davidson is the biggest joke of an umpire EVER! I watched a Braves vs Cubs game and Bob Davidson called a two balls strikes that were at least one ft off the plate on Andrew Jones and it was beyond pathetic. He was baiting for an argument just to throw someone out of the game. He's narsasistic and has a massive ego problem.
Lol 40:19 - 41:53 lol the inning lasted a minute and a half. Maddux was on another level
Yes lord
Only 4 pitches lol

Yes, was incredible. They brought that record with the question 😂😂😂
I just noticed that! That’s actually incredible, and still the right answer to that question.
Greg not happy to be taken out. The Master of Control Pitching. True treasure to watch him pitch.
I have to disagree. Bobby Cox gave his big 3 a choice. He put trust in Maddux Glavine or Smoltz. If Greg came out, it was his own accord.

@@cadon35 you know you're the best of your era when you are the ace of a team with usually FOUR aces on it lol
"In game 6, Greg Maddux stepped up, as did the Braves defense, 'GRISSOM THE DIVE N THE CATCH!'"
That crazy! In less than 6 innings pitched Maddux averaged less than 3 balls and inning.
I was there.....10-16-96. My very last game in the ole stadium.
Thanks for posting. HUGE memory of my childhood.
Greg maddux.. the GOAT
Of his era, tough to determine all time imo. Definitely the most impressive because he didn't throw hard
Best pitcher in the 90s for sure. 2000s belong to Pedro and Johnson.

39:22 This “strike” was so far outside it almost hit me at my desk 27 years later.
1:07:45 I believe a young Andruw Jones would break this record just a few days after this game
The next night, I believe. He homered in Game 7 of this same NLCS.

We should've won the World series in 91, won in 95, and 96.
92 and 99 we weren't as good, but we should've won those 2 for a total of 3 in the 90s

Base hit Willie McGee. Maddux' pitch selection is second to nobody

Cuz
Andrew jones went from 23 hits and 13 rbi in 1996 to 199 hits and 104 rbi in 2000....that's not steroids...or is it ?
rookie year lol
@jaredmenard7645 you don't think no player used steroids in baseball..this was the exact time when the majority was using
@@randyjohnson6845 lol I know, but 1996 was definitely Andruw's first year, and he wasn't even full time

Little Ron Gant probably was on steroids
