    I purchased my Abajo in the spring of 2019. Nothing but fun to ride. Sure, it might be a little heavier than other bikes out there, but the confidence I have on the bike and its ability to track are wonderful. I also like the geometry. The bike is tailored for trail riding and helps you feel centered in the cockpit with a wonderful center of gravity. I am just over 200 lbs and I did upgrade the brakes to the 4 piston SLX to provide a little more stability when braking. Everything else is stock from the $1999 purchase price and is still functioning very well. Really happy with the purchase and recommend to anyone, to consider this as a viable purchase options.

    Ordered mine this weekend , gonna be waiting 12 weeks for it , but its worth it , I have been researching bikes for weeks, and this one had best overall package for the $$$, and like some of the others, I don't see me out skilling this bike anytime soon, these thing will hang with the boys costing 1k -2k more .... SO waiting 12 weeks but getting a 2021 in a New color... cant wait.. I really really really really appreciate this review! Thank you, thank you, than you. Ive been looking at bikes under 2k for about 3 months. Currently have a 600$ hardtail. Dialing in exactly what i want and comparing every bike at this price point. I narrowed it down to the abajo peak and the trek fuel ex 5 2020 edition (LBS carries this). There has been almost no reviews on this bike (and whatever is out there I have read). I'm going to go with this after this video! Biggest things that i was concerned about was the fork but you made me so confident in getting this. Also beats out the trek in the drivetrain and a lot of people are upgrading the brakes on the entry level trek which it doesnt look like I will have to do this with this bike! I might even push that little extra and go for the dropper! THANK YOU!!!!

    I bought my Abajo almost 2 years ago speced out the same as yours but with Guide R brakes. Over that time I've upgraded almost everything but the frame, cockpit and brakes as my riding has progressed. Its definitely an overlooked bike because it's not mainstream or a big name. This is the kind of review I needed, most of them tell you everything you can simply google on their website and not how the actual bike rides and handles. Fezzari does not have enough of their bikes out there for anyone to even see one much less test one. And yes nice to see more people beginning to understand most riders budgets are at or under $2,000, gets really tired and old to see the disclaimer of "Bike tested at the $4500 level" or the Carbon model. Great job JC.

    Also, after searching just about every bike around 2000, this has the best components. It's the only one to offer SRAM NX eagle where all the others have SX Eagle and cheaper forks and shock. Most only offer dropper for around $200 more. Also, you can get tubeless as well. My choices have been SCOTT SPARK 960 BIKE, GT Sensor Sport, KONA PROCESS 134 29, Stumpjumper ST Alloy 29, 2020 Polygon Siskiu T8 Shimano SLX 12sp LTD Dual Suspension Mountain Bike, Polygon Siskiu N8 Dual Suspension Mountain Bike, Marin Rift Zone 2, Marin Hawk Hill 2, Giant STANCE 29, GHOST SLAMR 2.9 29" Bike - 2020 and maybe some of the Vitus bikes. Anyone else care to add other bikes that are available for around $2000. Still seems Fezzari is in the lead?

    Great Coupla questions: You said it was quiet, was part of that the hub not being clicky? Was hub engagement good? Did the rear shock feel progressive or linear? You mentioned the weight but didn't talk much about the climbing. I assume it felt a little slow. Thanks for the review and ride!

    • @jctrails
      @jctrails  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Gerry Giese the Abajo was extremely quiet. The hub is brand new with fresh grease in it and not many Poe so not much clicking going on. The suspension design I bet is actually pretty linear but they put a proper tune on the X-fusion air shock and they haven’t feeling quite progressive (I recommend 25% sag) . It’s a decent climber and don’t really notice the weight because the bike is so comfortable to pedal.

  • @JZMartinez
    @JZMartinez 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    @JC TRAILS Thanks for reviewing this bike. Not a lot of content on the Fezzari bikes at this price point. I looked at this bike hard one year ago as my first squish bike. Not a lot of independent reviews like this so I passed. I ended up on a left over 2018 Trigger 2, XO1 build. Watching a skilled rider on the Abajo Peak convinces me that current direct to consumer $2K price points bikes offer a lot of value. As a newer rider, my progression in the last year came from time in the saddle, progressive trails and riding with fitter and more skilled riders and not from an XO1 build. I might have been better off using the price difference on some quality coaching and to pay for a couple of more trips to Burnette, TX or Bentonville, AR. If you can afford more, spend your money on what makes you happy. If you don't have the extra coin, shred what you can afford. I've learned people really don't care what you ride, just that you ride.

      if you are in between sizes fill out the 23 point fitment that they offer and they will tell you what they think you should be on. Make sure you put "comfortable riding position" unless you are sure you want a racing position. i am in between Sm ( wich my current bike is) and a M. They put me on a M after going over all my measurements.

    Hey bro, is it playful and poppy? I don’t think you mentioned that. 😜 Just kidding. It is a decent entry point for anyone who wants to jump to a FS bike. I think you have to jump to $2.5K-3K to get a big brand bike, and now that would have SRAM SX, Tektro brakes, and Rock Shox Recon. Fezzari looks legit.

      @tylercloward1677 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gerry Giese it’s about 300 gram savings in the wheels, but you also get some good weight savings in the cassette (~180 grams). There also some weight trimmed in the fork. The cascade also gets you 4 piston brakes for more stopping power.

    Hey thanks for this bike review. I’m in the southern New England ma ct ri area and looking at this bike seriously. Super helpful to see reviews on terrain and trials I ride in real life. I wonder if you find on the east coast you gravitate toward wider tires as much as possible?

    • @jctrails
      @jctrails  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      John Lawrence if this is your price point you can’t go wrong with the Abajo. I mostly ride 2.3 wide tires on my local trails. Anything gravity oriented I might throw on something wider for the extra traction.
