Yeah, I helped a friend build a hot tub once. He found an old coal stove called a bucket a day at a yard sale. It only took a bucket of coal a day to keep your water hot, and was designed to circulate water through it. He set that up in the basement along the wall where the tub was going, and next we built a hot tub room off his bedroom, used old sliding glass doors for windows and skylights, then built forms and poured concrete to make the hot tub. This was 34 years ago, I got the sequence wrong, we built the forms and poured the concrete first, then built the room around it. He did all the piping and plumbing because he was good at that stuff. My plumbing experiences are just like yours, to many trips to the hardware store. I only got in the thing once, it was so hot it made me sick. Cold nights are coming, enjoy yours.

Yard sale find gone out of control, lol. I like that you built the room around it. And it can make you feel nauseous if it's too hot or you stay in to long. So in my version I cook it for 3 hrs...for a 15 mins soak. Reminds me of Thanksgiving...all day prep ...over in mins.

Nomadic Fanatic has a portable hot tub he has used several times as a hot tub or just a pool to cool off during his travels. I don't know what he paid or what you have invested in your project, but his would be a lot less work and give you more time to focus on another project. I have a friend in upstate NY than has a hot tub on her deck. She loves soaking in it during the winter nights. I am NOT a cold weather person. I don't think my body could handle being in the cold while wet. LOL I would enjoy it indoor though. LOL HUGS~Donna

He probably paid nothing for his, ha. Mine ran me about $300 ...but $100 of that was because of inexperience. :) The trick is to sink all the way into the tub with just your head sticking out. It's so close to the water that you stay good and warm. We are going to fire it up today so we'll see what happens.

did you end up using the entire 50 ft length of copper tubing? or did you cut it short somewhat?

We cut it short. Unfortunately I left water in it, it frozen and split the copper tubing. It's sitting here waiting for me to figure out what to do next. I'm thinking of just building a fire under the tub and ditching the tubing...which is expensive
