  • www.VideoJoeKno... How to remove mildew from a sidewalk is discussed, in this short howto video. You might need some special cleaner for this mildew removal sidewalk project. How do I know this? Ha! It was a joke. You probably have the cleaner right in your house, for use on your mildew sidewalks, or pretty much any removal mildew project you can find. Joe's been using this product for years, to clean &/or remove mildew.....sidewalks, stucco, concrete block, & brick, included. www.VideoJoeKno...

    If you use a pressure washer, make sure you wash evenly or you will see little lines all the way where you got the sidewalk cleaner than other areas. Use the fan spray tip & don"t put the wand too close to the surface then move in closer if need be. Be prepared to then wash the entire square inch of sidewalk. Good luck with your project! Joe :0

    They've got 10% chlorine bleach for use in pools, that you get at a pool supply store. It also comes in 12%, but 10% is more common. I've read that's what you want to use (in cleaning up after a flood, 1-1/4 cup per gal), not the kind of bleach for laundry purposes at the grocery store. Apparently, that has things in it that you don't need, and don't want to use.
    Another article I read said to use some Dawn dishwashing liquid with it . . . "To stop mold from growing . . . This interferes with the spore process, and sticks them together." Dawn is a detergent, which uses petrochemicals. Murphy's is a soap, so it's more biodegradable, and more eco-friendly . . . Maybe Murphy's interferes with the spore process also, and would be good to use, but maybe Dawn lasts longer . . . this is where I'm at.

      Kevin Hardesty If you use enough water you can dilute it's strength & or direct most of it down the sidewalk etc. then dose the edges with extra water. Yes I would think you should be careful but I don't think it will be a deal breaker. Thanks for your message!

    I did this with no brand bleach on a concrete patio it sits under a wood deck so it gets a load of run off. Bleach works perfectly as does mean green mold and mildew with bleach. I never even brushed, just pour, let it sit, rinse it off with a high pressure hose nozzle.

    THis would take days to do it this way for a large area. Spot cleaning is ok but never never for large sidewalk and patios. Pressure washer works wonders

      We didn't have a pressure washer & I did not want to spend the money renting one so I did it old school & the sidewalk looked really good when I got done. It didn't take me as long as you might have thought & Aunty loved the results when I was done. Check!

    That's great what you can do with a pressure washer......but alot of viewers may not have a pressure washer. For those viewers, this way will work. Thanks for your comment. Much appreciated! Joe :0

    • @VideoJoeKnows
      @VideoJoeKnows  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ganaa boldoo I'd say when the water dries you're good to go. Remember to put it on then let set a bit then scrub in then let set again & if need be scrub a little more before rinsing off with water. Repeat process in stubborn areas. Joe :0

    Your video has a technical flaw. Even after cleaning off the moss, your concrete sidewalk looks green due to the reflection of the grass on the side that shows in the water. If you wanted to show the results properly, you should have dried the concrete so no green would appear.

    • @VideoJoeKnows
      @VideoJoeKnows  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      LMAO so sorry for that! I will show all sides so there is no problems with knowing half of the sidewalk is clean while the other half is not! Nice thought though....I think you might think too much for your own good sometimes.....LOL

    so what if you have more than 12 square inches to cover? do you use a spray bottle in each hand and spray the entire driveway, sidewalk, and patios?

    Is Clorox the same as bleach? Did you dilute it or just spray it neat? You talked about concrete/stone etc surfaces, but what about wood? I have a back patio that's wood, and I nearly kill myself on it every time I don't remember to nail sandpaper to my shoes.

    • @VideoJoeKnows
      @VideoJoeKnows  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes clorox is bleach. I think I put it on full strength & just put it in a bottle & spray it on. Now not sure about a wood deck but you could put a couple sprays in a corner to see & not sure though if it would bleach out the wood all the way or not. You could probably spray simple green on it & take a plastic scrub brush to it & let sit for a few minutes then brush some more & leave for like 15 minutes then rinse off with water to see how well it came off. Let me know if it works!

    dilute clorox 1 cup to one gallon works as well but doesn't kill plants just mix in a pump sprayer one gallon or more and rinse thoroughly so it doesn't sit on plants.

    $5 of bleach vs $150.00 to $1200.00 for a pressure washer vs paying someone to use their pressure washer or renting one. It all depends on what is the best economical solution. Small areas treated infrequently bleach wins for cost reasons. Huge areas needing treatment frequently, would benefit from a pressure washer. If you have a 3'x3' area to treat every 10-15 years, than buying a pressure washer is a waste of space and money.

      amii tucK Yes try the clorox method & after you spray it on, let sit for a bit then take a small brush & brush around then let sit some more & wait for it to pretty much dry then rinse off while brushing a bit more. If you see any excess green around, repeat process or at least spray some more on there & let sit & it should clean it. Let me know how it goes! Thanks for your message! Joe :0

      I just cleaned a 500 sq foot raised deck with a homemade cleaning solution (1 qt. bleach to 3 qts water plus 1/3 cup laundry detergent). I watered the grass under the deck first, then covered it with a tarp. Proceeded to clean deck, rinsing well. I channeled all runoff to a plot of weeds. I ended up using a total of 12 gallons of solution (so 4 gallons of bleach); grass is fine .... an unfortunately, so are the weeds. Not one single weed died!!!!

      VideoJoeKnows Joe, I went to bed in pain whining like a little girl. Where do I get the muriatic acid?

    • @VideoJoeKnows
      @VideoJoeKnows  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Message to little girl...... you can get muriatic acid in gallon containers at most large hardware stores. You can also get it at pool supply stores too. Wear gloves & a mask when using this potent stuff. Pour it out on your concrete & brush it all around with a bristle push broom. It will steam up & start cleaning your concrete as soon as it hits it. Let sit on the concrete for several minutes &/or until all steam subsides then wash off with a garden hose. Try in one spot first so you see what happens. It works really well. Also works for brand new concrete as it will etch the haze right off. Let new concrete set for apprx a week or so then have at it. Have fun! Joe :0
