I’m crying, I literally thought the same thing and went to the comments to see if anyone felt the same. 😂😂 what’s he going for, waves? I want to know who thought this hairstyle was good, yeah?
I'm a NYC golf maniac (75 rounds in the area a year, in three simulator leagues, practice indoors or outdoors multiple days a week). 5iron's $375 a month is a solid deal for morning sessions every day on a trackman that you can use year round. For reference for the UK audience, the cheapest membership golf club near NYC that you don't have to be a CEO to join, Lake Success (which is kinda mid), is around $8,000 a year (no facilities other than golf, no pool, no tennis, no dining, just a golf course). That's the CHEAPEST and it's still required to basically have a car to get there and 40 minute drive. Everything else around the city have waiting lists years long and five and six figure initiation fees, then 15-30k a year in annual dues, not to mention multiple letters of reference from members to get in the door. Thus, most of us city golfers do a mix of simulator golf and leagues, and then hit up all the public and municipal courses in the area. You simply can't compare UK golf memberships to the NYC golf scene. Great vid though!
5iron member in midtown Manhattan, and happy New York Golf Center customer. I should’ve joined 5iron years ago. I go before work, walk there and walk to my office. You can join country clubs in New York, or you can play the dozens of public courses around New York City that are phenomenal… Like Bethpage and Ferry Point.
The score flip at the end is one I can relate to. Playing in a board comp off 12 hcap, I shot -2 on front 9, then my arse fell out and I shot +12 on the back. I won the comp by 1 shot, but was gutted about what could have been! 😢
Whilst there may not have been a huge amount of gof chat today, I have to say one of the funniest podcasts you guys have done. From Guys (or is it Grant?) blonde mohican (sorry for the spoiler) to G-Wagon club captain I was all in for it today. 🤣🤣 Top work gents.
So as a new yorker! New York golf center is the main place people get fittings! They have such a huge variety of clubs and some pretty great fitters! its also pretty cheap in comparison to the PGA store version!
NYC resident here…$375/mo may sound like a lot but you’re not close to getting any memberships for that. I live within a few miles of several private courses and you’re easily looking at $30k/yr for dues before you consider initiation expenses. $300/mo for an individual puts it on par with a decent gym/health club around me, similar to say a David Lloyd in the UK.
That’s just the world we live in, some places pay a premium. A David Lloyd near me is £60 per month and a membership at Gleneagles is £3600 per year… like you say it’s all supply and demand in that area.
That’s New York for you. The whole city is a bit tired. It’s dirty, some of the facilities are the same since the 70’s and 80’s, there’s a garbage problem, a rat problem, and it’s one of if not the greatest city on earth. I absolutely love it. It’s the only place in the world where you can walk around and feel like Batman, Spider-Man, and Jon Gotti all at the same time. It’s great.
As a LH golfer I find that a lot of course do not have clubs to rent or if they do they are not in good shape. I find it hard that I have to send/ carry my clubs when I go on vacation or sometimes not be able to play a course I want to play. It has improved since I originally started playing 20yrs ago but still we are outcasts 😂
To the point of clubs not having left handed sets to hire, would it be too expensive for clubs to buy maybe 2 sets off Golfbidder etc. so they could fulfill any request ? Can't believe it would cost more than £500 and they would surely recoup that over the first 2 years
Enjoyed this one. Followed a 3 ball sharing clubs and my round took 5hrs.. they would let me play through as they said I was on my own so had no entitlement. They clearly felt entitled to break the club rules (I found out later that at least one of them was in fact a member of the club)! 😠 Had to laugh when you were discussing whether a double and pars was better than pars and a double on the last. These are scores I can only dream of!🤣🤣. Keep it coming team Rick
Lol love you calling the New York Golf Center fitting bays tired. I went for the first time a few weeks ago and loved the experience but that fitting bay was worn down. The guys working it seemed very grumpy. Incredible store though.
As a low index player, I shot 98 on a golf break in Spain last week. We had played every day walking and carrying. And on our last round ending the trip and the whole season of 2024, honestly after three holes my swing and game just detoriorated. Wheels flew off and I lost all confidence in my ball striking. The round turned into an absolute nightmare and it was grinding all the way thru since the third hole, where I skulled a wedge over the green from 70 yards, got under trees and into the perimeter fence. Could not get my club at the ball. Tried to chip anyway out from the horrible spot. Hit a tree ending up even closer to the fence and had to take an unplayable… Really horrible decision to even try the first shot off the fence. Should have cancelled the shot - taken an unplayable right away and play another ball from the spot, I was trying to reach the green in the first place. Then on the fourth tee shot I hit the dreadfull hozel rocket behind the trees and close to the next teeing area for the first time since, I don’t know how many years. Had to hit a flop-shot over the pine trees and magically saved a bogey on the par-3 though. By this time my selfconfidence had been dented really badly. I could not find the face of any of my clubs, and was in fear of another shank for the rest of the round. Golf is so hard, and needs your full attention, when playing and trying to post a score. Fatique kicking in and you lose just a little of your concentration, there is very little you can do, but to try your best still and forget the previous shots, You have allready taken. It may or may not help, but at least you can say, I tried and did not quit.
I remember going on a syndicate day to a golf club (wont mention name) where afterwards we had a meal and stayed for a few drinks . the visitors area was tired with one barman working between 2 areas and couldnt get a drink. we noticed the members area was beautiful but behind a glass door with a number button lock on the door was a club logo and the date the club was founded. to our surprise the lock code was the date with no one about we decided to take over the members area for a short while until asked to leave politely but that hour holds good memories with freebee drinks available in the members lounge.
To Zack's point there shouldn't be a problem with you splitting your clubs to create two half sets and you could go one more and buy a cheap second hand putter online so you don't have to share that.
Yeah, we were able to sort it out our end - but that's because we already enjoy golf and are invested in making it work. If someone new to the game wanted to give it a go and met with quite a lot of pushback - 'no, you can't borrow any of your mates clubs, no you can't borrow any from us' etc. I wouldn't be surprised if they decided to knock it on the head and try some other sport with a lower threshold of entry.
Golf is seen and is engrained in history to be more of a class sport. Its just how it is. Not saying it should be but that is the perception. It would take a few big names in the sport to play tourneys in jumpsuits or jeans to change anything. To me though, golf attire is some of the most comfortable apparel I own and I wouldn't want to wear anything else on the course. It just needs to be more affordable...
Re clothing. I work in France and play at a decent club whilst there (Dieppe.) The French often play in jeans and a Tshirt and it's not frowned upon. I was a bit taken aback when I first saw this disgraceful behaviour but you soon get used to it being the norm. Now I'm quite envious of their laid back attitude but it now feels normal. Our stuffiness is definitely ingrained and I don't see how clothing should affect the enjoyment of the game or classiness of the club. We recently allowed hoodies in the UK and now it's normal.... Us Brits need to chill TF out a bit. In France they even take the dogs round on leashes tied to their trolley..... why not? Am i really here praising the French? 🤣
Van Cortland Park - main in city golf course. Chelsea Piers is expensive if you go regularly. The auto tee system is v labour saving. 😂 I used to go twice a month, then it worked out cheaper to move to NJ and play there. There is a similar driving range in Edgewater, NJ across the Hudson River.
I wonder that one day some of the YT golfers will build their own golf courses like the Bryan Bros did and then compete amongst each other, like teams events and such. I think Good Good is working on building a course. Could Rick Shiels and Peter Finch build their own course and create some kind of YT competition amongst TH-cam golfers? I just saw so much opportunity when they did their latest collab across the pond. IMO YT golf is the best golf there is right now.
Is the membership only Five Iron just a NYC thing? In Chicago you’re able to rent bays without a membership. It’s pricy, as you noted, but for a casual golfer like myself it scratches the itch when there’s snow on the ground outside.
NY GOLFER…. New York itself just outside the city has lots of course…. Public courses in the city suck especially after COVID …after COVID plus is a lot of people discovered golf…after COVID the downside is ALOT OF PEOPLE DISCOVERED GOLF…. Slow pace would be an understatement….. just get use to teeing off before the sun comes up and get first tee times if u want any chance of getting a 2-3hr round in…. But golf is available…
Thank you ever so much for answering my question fellas. Ever so sorry, Guy (or is it Grant?), bit of a brain melt moment. Gonna go hide and be embarrassed now.
HJey guys loved the Solina content, what a great course. \you really ought to invest in filming at some of our \uk \municipal golf courses for a change. We are particularly blessed along the south cpast (Bournmeouth.Southampton). It really would be a chnage from the top end courses you feature mostly.
Makes no odds if they wear a hat in clubhouse, wear a football shirt on the course or does it, my experience is they also tend to be the ones visiting the trees on 14 holes but shoot an 80 - just saying
Gret content as usual. However, I don't think the rules about having your own clubs is because of time. I think it has more to do with money than anything. If everyone could share, they would struggle to rent out their rental sets. Could even effect their golf club sales. I think a simple fix would have been for them to just pay for the right hand rentals, and then share the lefties out on the course. I doubt anyone would pay any attention, or even notice.
59 versus 58 is ridiculous. There is no logic! lol. I get the thought behind the hole in one on par 3 and par 4, a par 4 feels like pure luck after a good drive where a par 3 feels more like "skill". But Im definitely taking the par 4! The scores and birdy/par/bogey combos to achieve a score is ALL dependent on the quality of the shots, not the results. For me I would absolutely rather play well, hit shots how I wanted and not quite make scores rather than play B or C level and squeak in putts and random chip in saves. Give me a quality round that doesn't bear fruit rather than iffy play that gets lucky.
I was able to get a second putter from the attic, so in our case we were able to get it sorted. My general point is we tried quite hard - and HAD to try quite hard - to find an alternative solution because the clubs around us weren't able to provide one. If someone is new to golf and wants to give it a go, but comes up against those kinds of obstacles, I'm a bit concerned they'll just decide not to bother. If you wanted to try playing pool and there was no way to borrow a cue, either from your mate or the pub/pool hall, would you bother trying again?

I can't see that ending well. Assuming that less shots = less pay. Considering that something like 4% of golfers break 80, that's potentially alienating 90-95% of the playerbase 😂
18:13 Luckily the 2 vs 2 vs 2 was described as the longest video, I can now skip it without regrets… Full round coverage seems to be the trend now. I don’t actually second this development. It’s been good to consume more channels within the same time span we now get to see just one mega-long movie.
I'm fairly new to golf and to my view it does have a serious inclusion problem, and it's very much perception based i think. I'm a beginner, I've been idly browsing the local clubs/courses to have a go at or try to join when i get good enough. But i'm not set on being a member, i just like the challenge of learning golf because it seems ruddy hard. There is nothing more of a turn off than a club website with the 'Rules of Etiquette' 'Dress code' or stuff like this plastered right up up front for all to see. It feels snooty and in some cases a bit creepy to care about the height of someone's socks or how tailored ones shorts may be. So long as people aren't dressed lewdly anything more than that seems like snobbery to me. I don't want a lesson in deportment and manners before taking up a leisure activity. So having one immediately makes the sport off-putting. Golf seems to assume everyone is going to be impolite and rules accordingly. Why not assume people will be polite and have a word with those that aren't. Much nicer for those who would be polite without rules, amtd those those surely are the ones you want to encourage. If clubs need new members they need to bear in mind that rules only discourage people who obey rules. People who both want to play golf and don't give a damn about rules will turn up anyway and put effort into subversion of the rules. Who do clubs actually want?
TH-cam golf lessons are the worst thing someone can do, ive done it myself, 1 million thoughts when standing over the ball my mate on the other hand doesnt watch any stands over the ball and doesnt think about anything other than hitting the ball, im going to get lessons because my brain is fried with it all, i learned the basics of a golf swing which im happy about but by christ some of the stuff people put out can completely mess your swing up, me being one of them
So true, now I just focus on what I think I need. Stick on one thought until it’s ingrained then move on. These golf tip “experts” are annoying 18hc grifters
@MrBoysOG I agree mate, my mind is destroyed by it, I could hit the ball now I mostly fat everything just overthinking, I think I'd rather get lessons off my clubs pro
Phil Mickleson said this in his video with Grant. “You have to find a way that works for you. There is no ‘right’ way to swing a golf club. I’ve had my head mashed over the years. I’ve found a new guy who keeps it simple.
@@MrBoysOGcan’t agree actually used Ricks driver and iron swing videos back in the day and have to say he broke it down pretty well…. The issue is the individual golfer …. Once we figure out to keep it simple stupid then we start actually playing golf….
Maybe I have missed it in past episodes, but wondering if you guys have ever had the chance to play at a popstroke? I haven’t yet, but can’t wait to try one!
Absolutely shocking that light putter company made such accusations against Rick. They were the ones who reached out in the beginning! Completely unserious to not take the criticism from which they've asked.
I would take the 1 minute it takes to read the post they did and Rick decided CONVENIENTLY he wouldn't read, so he just doubled down here and didn't read the parts about how the price was 899 but he for the first time in history converted to euros "1299.34!!",more SHOCKING factor I guess, the part he didn't read the letter explaining why the putters were light (much better to say WHY, WHY,when you have the answer right there),or how the weights were clearly installed flush in the video thumbnail (go watch it before they change it like the titleist video!)but didn't later. btw,you can cross thread anything and it's clear as day what happened there. Rick shiels proves the drtbag he is nearly every single video I watch, the koepka thing, the my golf spy thing, "fuming " because an employee drops something, the fitting, the past masters champion slander..just a real peace of work, and if you think FOR A MINUTE this interaction pulling the putter conversation and the "oh wait they wrote about me,send them hate minions ",YIKES. That's how measly he is.If this was my company I would delight myself flying to England to stuff a Turkey
Snoutiness would make better sence. 😅 Snootiness is a phenomena between competitors in any sport. You end up in a pack of same skill level or results in your sports, but try to be polite with the lesser gamer as well. But it defenately shows on most people’s mannerism, that they don’t apreshiate the last third of the field the same as the better half.
Just head off with the two half sets on the back of a buggy or rent a set from any myriad of holiday club rental firms. I'm surprised a club wouldn't say we don't have lefty sets, but you can rent at set from ...
We were surprised too! We bothered asking to be respectful to the golf club and not to 'try and get away with it'. Just a bit disappointing that the onus was on us to work out a solution and the clubs didn't make much of an effort to try and help, I guess.
A hole in 1 on a par 4 is pure luck. A hole in 1 on a par 3 is a lot of luck but also skill in knowing how far you hit each club, judging the wind, flighting the ball, picking a landing spot, spin, hitting the shot.
Did love that 3 hour video. Broke it up into 3 different sittings to watch it. I did not skip a single second and watched it the whole way through.
Could it be splitted into a series?
Guys haircut is more controversial than that fitting video. Wow.
I’m crying, I literally thought the same thing and went to the comments to see if anyone felt the same. 😂😂 what’s he going for, waves? I want to know who thought this hairstyle was good, yeah?
Those in glass houses...
That haircut makes me feel like I’m about to get a ticket for speeding.
That Is The Worst Hair-Cut I've Ever SEEN 👀 In My LIFE!!!!!!!.
I thought it was Ian Beale for a minute.
Only messing, Guy. Looking sharp as usual ❤

@ $30-$300

"Real" memberships at Golf Clubs in the USA, not "memberships" that simply offer discounts, are absurdly expensive, and at times, very exclusive.

Another great episode, keep up the good work Rick and Grant
Lived in New York for my first 58 years. New York Golf Center, across the street from MACY'S, certainly used a lot of MY money to pay their rent.
“I’m sorry you shot an 87” 😭😂 absolutely savage Rick love it

I think this series with the others has shown a difference in golf ability over what may be considered as style or what the swing looks like.
Good video guys. You forgot to mention Wesley shot the course record 61 at the RSM. A notable achievement.

Lol love you calling the New York Golf Center fitting bays tired. I went for the first time a few weeks ago and loved the experience but that fitting bay was worn down. The guys working it seemed very grumpy. Incredible store though.

A fun thing to do at Chelsea Piers is to hit from the top level and hit a ball over the net into the Hudson River. I’ve seen it. It can be done.
You guys should of hit The Bob Does Sports partnered five iron in the city! Great spot, love hearing how you guys view NYC as a native. Lol
What brands had a bigger hammering this week? Jaguar or Zenturuon?
I agree with not sharing clubs but if the club cant rent them clubs there should probably be some leeway

You should review your ping putter again. It's been better than you thought
Brooklyn golfer here, its doable, its hard, but it's worth it.

Its an option but not the majority of what people do, memberships are largely for morning hours.
I still wanna see Rick review Mizuno st230 hybrids!! Since he’s a hybrid guy now
Rick!! Next time you’re in NYC we gotta do a video!!
Seeing the state of golf shoes nowadays is the perfect example of how something was massively frowned upon is now completely accepted.
I listen to the podcast because TH-cam ads are getting wayyy to much

The uncle could bring his Driver and putter . They then could be put in the spare bag along with the even clubs .

Club sharing is considered a pace down issue. But it shouldn’t have to be.
You should have played Beth Page Black 😊
Should golfers pay green fees based on their total shots?
I can't see that ending well. Assuming that less shots = less pay. Considering that something like 4% of golfers break 80, that's potentially alienating 90-95% of the playerbase 😂
18:13 Luckily the 2 vs 2 vs 2 was described as the longest video, I can now skip it without regrets…
Full round coverage seems to be the trend now. I don’t actually second this development. It’s been good to consume more channels within the same time span we now get to see just one mega-long movie.
Manhatten is not the only part of NY
Are you guys on a Christmas break?
.... haven't seen any content recently.
Elvis Smiley..... easiest emoji/clothing brand ever!
Any barber will tell you they don’t charge for what they take off they charge for what they leave behind.
Sounds like NYC for sure! lol
Why r brits so worried about score and handicaps?
I haven’t yet, but can’t wait to try one!
shot 87 i wish that was me haha
Has Rick got an ongoing problem of confusing Wesley with George? lol
Hahahahaha guys a jarhead stoner now, love it!
He gives reacharounds for a wage
A one handed golfer might appreciate a lighter putter
"Snootiness" shouldn't be mistaken for etiquette
Try golf in VT-3x harder than what you just played.
Guys hairline looks like a bike seat 😂
Rick and Guy accusing folk of not being able to take criticism.😂
Especially after the titliest fitting fiasco.
Guy: I’m wanting to look as if she’s turned the weains (kids) against us
Barber: say less
Snoutiness would make better sence. 😅
Snootiness is a phenomena between competitors in any sport. You end up in a pack of same skill level or results in your sports, but try to be polite with the lesser gamer as well. But it defenately shows on most people’s mannerism, that they don’t apreshiate the last third of the field the same as the better half.
Why would you even bother asking the club staff if you can share clubs? Just do what you want, geez.....
The Rick Shiels golf show, where Guy talks for an hour straight 😂 need to go New York now
That junk probably has 80% margin on it. lol
Sad that crime and drug use is such a thing to remember on a visit to what used to be one of the greatest cities in the world…..
These guy are obsessive over places making money
First
Here in America they wouldn't care if you shared golf clubs. Don't understand why they wouldn't want you to
