  • Truly a starry night, a dream come through night for Yury Zakharevich. In 1983, he dislocated his left elbow when he tried to break a WR in the snatch. He got his elbow rebuilt with synthetic tendons. His performance at the 1988 Olympics was simply sensational - gold medal in the 110kg class and fantastic results in snatch (195KG, 205KG WR, 210KG WR) and in clean-and-jerk (245KG, 251KG WRx, 251KGWRx). Part 1 covers the snatch part of the competition. Part 2 covers the CJ and medal ceremony.

    I've watched a lot of lifters over the years, and yes, he was the coolest cucumber I ever saw no matter what the level of competition. Always calm and collected, but that was Yury. It's simply the way he was made. I miss the competitors of yesteryear that kept their egos in check & were composed and displayed great sportsmanship. Today, so many of the young men in sport seem to display so much anger, emotion, ego. People like Yury prove it's not necessary. You can be both a champion AND, a man of composure & dignity. That's how people admire & respect you.

      I have to laugh when I see him after his failed 3rd attempt & backstage he clowns with Khrapaty & Arsamakov. They were still just boys really at this point. It's amazing to look back. I consider myself blessed to have been present at several of these. This will never be again, just like the live Rock & Roll concerts from the 70's & early 80's. Grateful tape of this exists. Thanks very much for uploading.

      Have you seen Pisarenko or Vardanyan after a successful lift? The former was a charming showman and the latter literally jumped over the chalk stand in euphoria when he won in Moscow in 1980.

    Is kavarevitch ukranian?

    • @AdamantS
      @AdamantS ปีที่แล้ว

      Of course Zaharevich is not Ukrainian. He was born in Russian Federation. His father is Belarusian, his mother is Russian. Yuri has nothing to do with Ukraine at all.
