I took the same walk yesterday. Sergels torg, Drottninggatan, Centralbadet. Then over to an empty Hötorget, and two way to early stops at Kungsan and the Bandit festival.
Done the same many times. Ordinary big city.

is it me or do all the lovely retail mall type shops are so dead ,and the café bars etc are full its just like this in the UK! but amazing beauty is Stockholm ill visit one day ,also I've heard clothes are so expensive in Sweden is this true.

Forgive my American ignorance but can Germans and Swedes understand each other? Their languages seem fairly similar.
Naah some similar words but we can not speak to each other
The languages are not close and a only few words are similar but grammar etc very different. But Norwegians and Swedes can talk together with reasonably good understanding (60-80%) and Danish is similar too but sounds very different so talking together is harder and they in my experience use English to chat, but it’s not impossible to read Danish/Swedish.
As a German knowing a little bit of Swedish: Swedish, Norwegian and Danish are North Germanic languages, and are quite closely related. If people from these countries talk to each other, often each one uses his native language, and the others understand well enough. While German and English are both West Germanic languages. You understand German? - obviously they are less related to each other, also because the English language had a lot of influence from Latin and later French.
Example: house - Haus (German) - hus (Swedish). city/town - Stadt - stad. tree - Baum - träd. - You see, some Swedish words are closer to German, some closer to English. Sometimes, speaking English with a friend from Sweden, if I do not remember the English word, it helps if I just use the German one, he may understand. It is generally assumed that for Germans it is easier than for most other nations to learn Swedish.
But: no, we do not just understand each other.
Thank you for that clarification. American English and pure English - what is called the King's English - is basically the same. Americans, British, Australians, etc., can understand each other most of the time. As the saying goes, separated by a common language.
