This is just one of those songs that you don’t fuck with. Simply because it’s perfect how it is, with its calming beauty. Disturbed did it justice and so did Peter Hollens and Tim Foust. This is just a great song.
If you watch the Tim Foust Vocal Range by Axel Fuentes, you will get a real feel for his range. He has said in some interviews he has a five octave range.
One of the reasons that he has such an expansive range is due to the fact that his vocal chords are so big/thick so that he can reach the bass growl notes. The thickness of his vocal chords help him tighten his chords to hit the high chest notes and falsetto ranges.
What most people do not get, is that there are 2 voices. BUT, those 2 voices can and do record, edit and mix the post. This is a video. Not Live. There is a big difference.
Even though I was *around* for the original 2 versions by S&G... The one by Disturbed is the one I'm In Love with! Even now, just thinking about it gives me Goosebumps. S&G's as well as this one, remind me of the Shy kid in school, trying to tell me something from across the lunch room....in a whisper. Both, while sung as a Sweet Melody...are a tad Tame, for the Message it's about. (If you like I can tell you All about That, at another time) suffice it to say...that the Social Turmoil (Racism, Bigorty, Hate, War, Police Brutality without consequence, Looming Threat of Another War and Economic Devision among the Classes,etc.) Unfortunately and Sadly are very much the Same NOW as THEN. So..while these 2 Melodic versions MATCH the Protest Music from the 60's-70's....Too MANY Chose SILENCE & ACCEPTANCE. Not ENOUGH *LISTENED* THEN... So NOW, in This Day... We NEED a Stronger Voice to deliver this Message...and David IS That Voice. Because to be quite Frank ... We Either Effect REAL & PERMANENT CHANGE, WORLDWIDE...... OR WE ARE *DOOMED AS A SPECIES*.

wow I love your reaction. You guys are wonderful because you picked up all the nuisances that most reactors miss. Tim often uses his range in a very subtle way and sometimes people miss what he's doing when he moves from tenor to bass. Of course, sometimes, he does a big payoff low note that isn't subtle in the least like in ROF. But mostly, he moves effortlessly between bass, baritone, and tenor.

This seriously doesn't have enough traction, between these two, the best you can get without going to the original S&G, I grew up on them, so you couldn't find a better critic. Loved Henk Poort's version on Beste Zangers, which was a version of Demented's take on it, which was awesome by the way. I preferred Henk's version as he is more classically trained (Professional opera singer who did Phantom of the Opera for years) and hit the soul and power of the song better than David, not to mention he literally did the no-no of opera singing - the distortion, he did it for Floor (they both love each other's work a ton!) and carried it into the Phantom of the Opera duet they did on that same show ... epic!

I must say I prefer their Sing-Off version of 'Ring of Fire', probably because Tim gets to sing all the bass parts himself. I've become a huge fan of his. I enjoyed all their Sing-Off performances so much.
Personally I prefer the version with Avi, but I can see why you prefer the sing off version, both are really good. I just like the two bases harmonizing, I wish there was more of that. Good base voices are rare.
I think another reason why I prefer the Sing-Off version is that it was live. I keep getting impressed by the fact that unlike many singers, Tim at least sometimes sings lower during HF's live performances than in the recorded versions, even if it's only by a semitone. Most singers do it the other way round. :)
