I thank you for teaching this great lesson-before this, I had learned to make clones with cuttings in a sterile environment. This seems way more entertaining, and much easier to care for!
Hi. Thanks for the video with all the keikis. But I don't see where you show how or where to apply the keiki paste on dendrobiums. Can you please do a video or explain how to here in the comments? I have seen a couple other comments asking the same thing. If I missed it in the video I apologize. Thank you
I have a dendrobium stalk that lost most of its leaves except for a few on the too and the base, can I make a small incision at the top to try to promote growth?
Orchid Species well, they look great. When I started working at a nursery I cared for the orchids and a lot of them needed some special tlc. They usually spring back up and they do pretty well if checked on often. I find it kind of fun picking off old bulbs and grooming them. haha Liked the video very much! beautiful orchids u have. thanks
Hii, Singapore has the biggest orchid collection in the world in the botanical gardens, that’s where my love for orchids started. Im sure you will find the keiki paste in Singapore. Good luck.
Thanks for the cool video. Sounds like you are from Northern England and I realize there is accent involved, but I live in Hawaii, and we pronounce the word "CAY-key".
Hi Les thanks for the video. I am from Harrismith in South Africa and I have never seen Keiki Paste. How can I get hold of some. I am building a hothouse as our winter temps drop to minus 14C and very few plants survive that. I already have a number of plants that cannot withstand those temps and am growing them successfully. Any advice on cultivating orchids will also be welcome.
I realized the store closed though I’m not sure why they stopped selling supplies and at least selling local.I don’t know who the people are that order orchids via ebay from overseas..nobody I know does but I sure won’t because I feel like I don’t really have anyone to go back to to complain or follow the money etc. But my point is Les, many of us like your detailed videos and sure wish you would do more. So many of the youtube’s are people trying to be entertainers and just plain silly...I would rather have the facts and be able to see the details from an experienced grower. So many of the youtubers - are the “let’s see how this works”, “never tried it but I’m going to show you how to do it”or they are the “let us take another wack at it”. Where you are obviously well grounded in the art and culture of growing orchids - many types. So I don’t know if you will see this....but do come back - maybe at least once every month or so. I know it takes time and prep to do these but they are appreciated and it is a worthwhile effort to teach. I have watched a number and sometimes I forget to click like...but I really do like them - I just get in a hurry to watch another one.
Hi, Orchid species! Can I do on phal species? Will it work? How do person do a cloning paste such as basak keiki? I've seen pictures but where to apply. Heh! Lovely video!
Do u think it depends on the photoperiod of the light whether it produces flowers or veqetative qrowth? 12 hours light /12 darkness or too much dark would promote flowers wheras 24/0 or 20/4 would promote veqetative leaves? Thank u. Please reply soon.
Can this paste be used on other plants than what you have shown here? Over the years I have developed a love for restoring/reproducing various house plants, could this paste help?
Hi Mary, It's unlikely to have any effect as the hormones in the paste are intended to change a growth buds growth path and make it produce leaves and roots rather than flower stem. Not sure what the hormones would do to other parts of the plant. Give it a go - you never know!
I regularly apply keiki paste to my phals, but have only achieved one keiki so far, most covered nodes will grow after application, but tend to turn into flower spikes instead of keikis. Any ideas why this is?
It's most likely that the parentage is causing it (some species take to it well and always produce keikis and others are less willing to produce) or it could be that there's not enough paste being added. Try to completely enclose the bud in paste so plenty of the hormones migrate to the cells beneath.

Best to apply to a stiff stem rather than a sappy one but really any time is good, as the stem stiffens is probably the best time though as the sap is rising
now as far as something that is unpredictable goes such as a vanilla planifora. They seem to grow (or at least mine does) with growth of leaves and then single roots from the following nodes. Is it possible that this paste could be put on these nodes to produce keikis instead of roots?
No, I think this paste will work only on dormant growth buds rather than root buds. Vanilla is so easy to clone anyway with cuttings that it's probably not worth it anyway
Hey Orchid Species! Can you please tell me - when I bought keiki paste and applied it to all of my orchids, even single phalaenopsis produced me a keiki, all of them produced flower branches, so why I didn't get any keikis?
about 2 months and all they did was they produced big, very big green ball of witch about three new flowers spikes comes out . .. looks like an alien but no keikis, so what is the problem?
Vytautas Poška it did work then but produced spikes not keiki. That suggests the dormant bud was not all that dormant after all! Try a bud further down and apply fresh each month to top it up
does anyone know where I can obtain anoectochilus lylei plant or seeds? I've been strenuous searching online and wasn't able to find any information on this. much thanks~!
Hello there :) As far as I know, I've never heard of an orchid sprouting keikis from the leaves themselves. I believe they only come from the flower stems. I hope this helps :)
If I apply the keiki paste on a stem that has a flower above the application site, would that cause the nodes above the application site to stop producing flowers?
Perhaps not enough was put on to the bud or the selected buds are already branch buds. Try adding more and choose a lower bud from a spike in full flower.
It's not worth it as the components (lanolin and hormones alone) will cost you more than a tube of paste! £11.99 including UK delivery. £14.49 Including EU delivery and £14.99 including WORLDWIDE delivery. www.orchidspecies.co.uk/KEIKI-PASTE-for-cloning-orchids.html and www.orchidspecies.co.uk/Keiki-Clone-Orchid-Cloning-Keiki-Paste-worldwide.html

Great vid, I've always wanted to give this a go, as an orchid lover and collector this is something I would like to test on some of my orchids.
I have a dendrobium stalk that lost most of its leaves except for a few on the too and the base, can I make a small incision at the top to try to promote growth?
They flower stalk dried so I want to see if I can get one from the stem
thanks for sharing, my first time to have an orchids and i don't have any idea how to care and separate the keikis
my dendrobiums gave tons of keikis!!! never heard of keiki paste before this. wow @ 6:56 that epidendrum! omg
I know, they grow like weeds for me!
Orchid Species well, they look great. When I started working at a nursery I cared for the orchids and a lot of them needed some special tlc. Thank you for this expert video on all aspects of Keikis and keiki paste. Wonderful.
Thanks for the cool video. Sounds like you are from Northern England and I realize there is accent involved, but I live in Hawaii, and we pronounce the word "CAY-key".
Great healthy roots! Do you use rooting concentrate? Thanks.

How taxing is this for the mother plant and is there a limit on the number of times you can do this
I couldn't get it to work. I might try again once I get my lazy Phals to spike. Happy growing yolí ♥

How to apply the keiko paste on dendrobium orchids
maria christina diza I want to know too
If I apply the keiki paste on a stem that has a flower above the application site, would that cause the nodes above the application site to stop producing flowers?
Nature is fine
No, it will only affect that bud
+Orchid Species So if that stem had flowers on it but had a bud lower down you could add the paste and it would make a keiki?
You could scrape of a little of the tough outer layer then put the paste on it and it'll work.
How long does it taje for the kekis to bloom
If you leave keikis on the plant then they can flower in around a year, if you remove and pot them up then it's usually 2 - 3 years
Orchid Species Nice video. If we don't remove from the plant, won't that become heavy on the main plant when they start to flower..!
Gopinath Kara Yes they will eventually but you can remove them at any point after they have roots so if they get unmanageable just remove them
Whenever I try to put this stuff to my orchids, I ALWAYS freaking get not keiki, but new flower stem!!! what I do wrong>!
Perhaps not enough was put on to the bud or the selected buds are already branch buds. Try adding more and choose a lower bud from a spike in full flower.
do you know how to made it home at keiki paste

Archana Rathod You can look up on amazon or ebay, they have it.
wre do you buy the paste?
We all want to know where we can buy keiki paste. I live in Argentiina
Elaine Grant you get it on Amazon.
I used this paste on my orchids and all produced a flowering branch instead of a new plant. Why this is do you think?
Ildiko Orban Could be that the buds had already started or it may be the variety is difficult - depends on the breeding

I think you need to clone on the growing season instead of blooming season....
hi love all your videos. is a species phals harder to do this on then one of the hybreads???
