It's interesting what you say about people in your village living in summer kitchens.
Some years ago there was a property for sale on Alternative Living Bulgaria that was a summer kitchen with a shower and toilet built into it. It was like a big freestanding bedsit. A young couple with a baby were living in it. IIRC it even had two petchkas in it! The main house was falling down, but that didn't matter.
As a single person this really appealed to me.

It's very common. At the bottom of our "drop off" there's an older man and his mother who live in a lovely summer kitchen. They obviously abandoned the house years ago but their garden and orchard are beautiful and their little summer house is perfect

@@Bulgaria_Bucharest Thanks for your reply. I thought I might be the only one who had such a "Mad" idea!
Most of the properties I've seen for sale in villages are quite large family houses.
As you rightly say, getting many of these into a habitable condition could end up being quite expensive, but a little summer house would be much less daunting.
I was thinking you could probably use a lot of the wood from the main house as winter fuel.

What I find rather interesting about houses in BG is the non typical western layout of specifically dedicated rooms , like 3 bedrooms , a living room, dining room and kitchen etc. They just have 3 or 4 rooms that act as multiple purpose rooms . Also in the descriptions of houses , they simply say a large room ,but don't give the measurements.

@@VWApacheyNotice how many beds a lot of houses have. Often there's no lounge type furniture, just beds and wooden or metal kitchen chairs.

Also outside staircases....that's because the family would live downstairs in front of the fires in the winter, I think!

Oh, that is interesting. I didn't know about closing down the business account. I probably owe loads then.....

This is the village our house is in. It has two springs. Large bins at different points in the village which are emptied weekly or fortnightly. It's a large village with shops and amenities. We rarely lose power or water. It's high up so wells are unusual.
