    I like everything on that design except for the log lift, I prefer a crane. The box wedge self return arm is the best I've seen. Very good job!!!

    Seems to be nice machine like the set up log lift seems to need adjustments butt all in all seems good now here it’s beginning of 2023 what’s the price tag ? And is it made in the states here ?

    Great machine, and as someone else said, the best return system which holds the log with springs so that it drops vertically into the trough, unlike other systems where the operator is constantly adjusting the log.
    Interested to know the details inside the box. Are the blades staggered or angled or both, and are they just welded top and bottom or cut into the horizontal plates. The forces in there must be tremendous as wood is so strong in compression.

    Nice splitter. I'm curious how does that beast handle freshly cut oak with knots and perhaps that strandy type of maple (dont know the name) that is tough on normal Splitters. How often if ever do the rounds need to be sledge hammered out of the box wedge design? Thanks.

    Designed and built one near identical 15 years ago as a proto type .Have had it stolen 4 times now, made mine with auto cycle so you could reload between strokes does 12 metres hr one man and any type of wood including knots low to no splitters this machine takes alot of r&d to get to this stage mine cost me over $30 000

    Needs a diesel engine & oil cooler.....

    • @steelandwoodltd9724
      @steelandwoodltd9724  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      how have you come to this conclusion ? oil running temp is 40 -45 degrees Celsius . petrol consumption is $1 per cubic meter of wood split .

    • @splitdoctor1993
      @splitdoctor1993 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Running a machine all day, every day diesel hands down is king......The off road diesel fuel is much cheeper per gallon & you will get double the hours per gallon than gasoline......Low RPM high torque with correct pump......Heat kills hydraulics, ten hrs of splitting in summer time, a cooler should be an option.......You have a great machine, after many hrs of operation, you can make it greater............ : )

    • @wiredforstereo
      @wiredforstereo 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@splitdoctor1993 True. Much lower fuel costs, much more durable engine. However, vastly more expensive. Here in the US, a new Honda gas V-twin can be had for $1400. A similar horsepower output diesel is going to cost you upwards of $6000. (I picked up a Mitusbishi L3E at a yard sale for $250).
      You can buy an awful lot of petrol for $5000 worth of engine. For a very commercial operation, it might be worth it, but it's all about payback period.

  • @philwagenknecht1499

    Great looking machine. Some nice ideas. See if you can get something to cover your springs for when the ends break off, as they wouldn't be great flying around. Also what would be great is a two speed pump.
    Check out mine on "Phils Woodsplitter" th-cam.com/channels/avU1wbIkLXBdU0dVkqkZVw.htmlvideos?view=0&sort=dd&shelf_id=0&view_as=subscriber.
    A larger two speed pump on mine would be great but its actually matched to the engine size. Mine was built on a budget with a lot of recycled parts and everything works well enough to split all the wood I need.
    I like the simplicity of your log return but here in Australia I can put some really tough hardwoods into mine and the return actually pulls anything that jambs in the first horizontal breaking knife. As for a cooler, I haven't needed one as yet but it would be and advantage to make your hydraulics last longer. mine is somewhat like yours and doesn't get that hot.
