I used to have "clean up" parties: Armed with hot dogs, and a tub of mac salad, and a half keg 'o beer, you come grab a big ole lawn bag, return it full of trash, and you eat and drink free. Starting early enough (8am) most folks were happy enough about the project that they'd bring 2 or 3 bags before settling in for grub and chat. That was awesome...no pristine woods, no moss, no perfect situation, just some trashed up wilderness area by a river thats seen better days, but you did it. You brought the goodness with you. You turned it into a paradise and made it accessible and doable for the average city person to "just do it", just go outdoors and enjoy. Thats the way it's done. Great Video Phat Outdoors ! If you look beyond the litter it is a beautiful place. I have seen similar areas cleaned up by a city crew and the next week it was trashed all over again. Never ending till we get to Heaven. Ha ! Nice river views ! People don't realize what they have. You have good gear my man ! Your thoughts on the outdoors as a good "natural drug" is on spot. I am motivated to do my own but right now were having some serious snow in northern Pennsylvania. The trash is certainly ridiculous and saw a lot of it when I lived in Arizona. Also doused a lot of campfires....I don't get people at times. Keep the faith and trust the Lord.

WOW, what an impact u made! U were real and true. I have watched some of my favorite U-tube people try to get this point across, but U sweet soul said it in the best way! Some guys are pushed to hold everything on their shoulders, women to. It’s okay to admit it’s become to much. It’s not weakness, that shows strength of a real man, or woman. So far I liked your steak challenge video better than everyone's so far. I love all of them and the entire community of outdoor, bushcraft type people. I feel a kindered spirit with all of them from all around the world, including you. Your video was the best not because of the view, or anything imparticular, but because of the spirit in the way you did it , which is in the true spirit of what this challenge was about, It helps others to know that other men feel this kind of depression and anxiety. Mine finally just caused me to lose my wife of 35 years. i too have always loved the outdoors and knew since childhood that being out in nature has a very good effect on the human condition. Much better than any kind of therapy you can pay for. I loved your kit, skills and cooking. it was a great video and gives me hope.I don't want to be on any medication like that either except as a last resort or if they can prove some kind of chemical deficiency or something. I plan to spend a lot of time outdoors in the near future once I get some of this stuff behind me and get stable. I know it will help emensely. Thanks man, I really enjoyed it.

Great video! Loved the sharing to help others. These videos will no doubt get others out there and get them motivated to help themselves and others. Two things though; "Never, ever, ever eat green potato peels. Always cut off all the green. It's poisonous! Your tummy will give you trouble later. 2nd, Bro! Pray out loud! Not everyone grew up with prayer in their homes. So not everyone knows how to say a prayer. Most people don't know the words of a simple prayer. The thing is to pray out loud and make it different every time so people understand a prayer is to God. Between them and God. No word is wrong when you're talking to God. I hope this helps and keep going forward, God is always with you.

I feel you on this subject! I've had PTSD for years. Medication helps but it's only a bandaid. Talking to a therapist is what really helped. Awesome steak and potatoes by the way! Love the new grills too. Thanks for opening up and sharing! You're not alone brother! Atb Sean

Growing up in a Mexican household we were always told we don't talk heck we don't feel, I'm almost 40 now and just now dealing with crippling depression. Hi....I liked your video and its nice that you took the challenge for Mental Health. I just would like to say I feel for you about all that garbage on the trail and camp sites. This is absolutely terrible I don't understand why people do this in such a beautiful place. Hopefully someday some organization will take charge and clean up the place. I know it cuz we are family and you recognize your family when you see them. I suffered for years with anxiety and depression. All sorts of battles! Hi I just subscribed to your "small" channel. Don't forget from small acorns mighty oaks grow. I too suffer from anxiety and have suffered from depression after a diagnosis of two chronic illnesses. I cannot get out as much as you yet but am trying. I do enjoy to capture through photos the view from my windows of the changing clouds, sunset and sinrises. Keep positive when you were talking about your depression especially the crying part, I wanted to send you a virtual hug all the way from the UK.

Thanks for doing this! Opening-up on mental health challenges is incredibly important. My brother-in-law was not able to connect with help and ended-up taking his life, despite a loving family and wife. The people left behind struggle to understand the despair that results in the final decision but, if they knew about it, could offer support and encourage treatment to stop the downward spiral. Twenty years later we have a rational understanding of what may have led to his decision but the impact still lingers. Subsequently, we have experienced depression among other family members and have been open in communicating about the challenges of dealing with this common disease. Sometimes, as much as close family tries to help, the ability of others (doctors, clergy, counsellors) is necessary. We learned that drugs can have a role in stopping the spiralling descent in serious depressions -in my wife's case just long enough to allow her to rise out of the pit through effective counselling (a very short term). During this period, a friend shared his experience with depression (a person who resists all drugs) with his advice as "When the Doctor tells you to take the drugs take them" as a means of stoping the "descent". We had opened-up to him and he shared his struggle and experience (which had been unknown to us). We learned how many of our friends faced similar struggles when we started to talk about it. In our case, the long term management has included making exercise (outdoors) a priority, engagement with others, music and early identification of depressed feelings (addressed with counselling). Being "in the Bush" is a big part of the spiritual rejuvenation. Your small piece of wilderness is an inspiration, an area to find peace to contemplate and interact with the "real" world . We live in Northwestern Ontario, surrounded by wilderness and natural beauty, and realize how we are blessed to live in such a place (even when it is -40 and waist deep snow :^). I've watched many of these "Steak Challenges" but this one inspired me to comment -I'm glad that you participated.
David... Sorry for the delay in response but I sincerely wanted to digest your comment and respond appropriately. I cannot thank you enough for your kind words and thoughtful heart felt insights. It may sound cliche' but brother 'the struggle is real" ! it's unfortunate that many keep the struggle hidden. In our day and age it is all to common to know someone who died of cancer and mental health challenges. I thank God for the wise advice of your friend. I guarantee you that although I resist any drug treatment if push comes to shove and I spiral further than I can manage I would go the same route as your wife. It is so very vital that people seek outside help. I love the outdoors and it has definitely been a means of "medication" for me. Some may call it escapism but brother just getting out alone with God and creation has been the biggest blessing outside of my grandson in the past 3 years. I have so much more to say and so little time to say it! Thank you for watching and more over thank you for your AMAZING comment! It means more than you know!

So far I liked your steak challenge video better than everyone's so far. I love all of them and the entire community of outdoor, bushcraft type people. I feel a kindered spirit with all of them from all around the world, including you. Your video was the best not because of the view, or anything imparticular, but because of the spirit in the way you did it , which is in the true spirit of what this challenge was about, It helps others to know that other men feel this kind of depression and anxiety. Mine finally just caused me to lose my wife of 35 years. i too have always loved the outdoors and knew since childhood that being out in nature has a very good effect on the human condition. Much better than any kind of therapy you can pay for. I loved your kit, skills and cooking. it was a great video and gives me hope.I don't want to be on any medication like that either except as a last resort or if they can prove some kind of chemical deficiency or something. I plan to spend a lot of time outdoors in the near future once I get some of this stuff behind me and get stable. I know it will help emensely. Thanks man, I really enjoyed it.

Great video! Loved the sharing to help others. These videos will no doubt get others out there and get them motivated to help themselves and others. Two things though; "Never, ever, ever eat green potato peels. Always cut off all the green. It's poisonous! Your tummy will give you trouble later. 2nd, Bro! Pray out loud! Not everyone grew up with prayer in their homes. So not everyone knows how to say a prayer. Most people don't know the words of a simple prayer. The thing is to pray out loud and make it different every time so people understand a prayer is to God. Between them and God. No word is wrong when you're talking to God. I hope this helps and keep going forward, God is always with you.

I feel you on this subject! I've had PTSD for years. Medication helps but it's only a bandaid. Talking to a therapist is what really helped. Awesome steak and potatoes by the way! Love the new grills too. Thanks for opening up and sharing! You're not alone brother! Atb Sean

This is absolutely terrible I don't understand why people do this in such a beautiful place. Hopefully someday some organization will take charge and clean up the place. Hi I just subscribed to your "small" channel. Don't forget from small acorns mighty oaks grow. I too suffer from anxiety and have suffered from depression after a diagnosis of two chronic illnesses. I cannot get out as much as you yet but am trying. I do enjoy to capture through photos the view from my windows of the changing clouds, sunset and sinrises. Keep positive when you were talking about your depression especially the crying part, I wanted to send you a virtual hug all the way from the UK.

Thanks for doing this! Opening-up on mental health challenges is incredibly important. My brother-in-law was not able to connect with help and ended-up taking his life, despite a loving family and wife. The people left behind struggle to understand the despair that results in the final decision but, if they knew about it, could offer support and encourage treatment to stop the downward spiral. Twenty years later we have a rational understanding of what may have led to his decision but the impact still lingers. Subsequently, we have experienced depression among other family members and have been open in communicating about the challenges of dealing with this common disease. Sometimes, as much as close family tries to help, the ability of others (doctors, clergy, counsellors) is necessary. We learned that drugs can have a role in stopping the spiralling descent in serious depressions -in my wife's case just long enough to allow her to rise out of the pit through effective counselling (a very short term). During this period, a friend shared his experience with depression (a person who resists all drugs) with his advice as "When the Doctor tells you to take the drugs take them" as a means of stoping the "descent". We had opened-up to him and he shared his struggle and experience (which had been unknown to us). We learned how many of our friends faced similar struggles when we started to talk about it. In our case, the long term management has included making exercise (outdoors) a priority, engagement with others, music and early identification of depressed feelings (addressed with counselling). Being "in the Bush" is a big part of the spiritual rejuvenation.
Your small piece of wilderness is an inspiration, an area to find peace to contemplate and interact with the "real" world . We live in Northwestern Ontario, surrounded by wilderness and natural beauty, and realize how we are blessed to live in such a place (even when it is -40 and waist deep snow :^).
I've watched many of these "Steak Challenges" but this one inspired me to comment -I'm glad that you participated.
David... Sorry for the delay in response but I sincerely wanted to digest your comment and respond appropriately. I cannot thank you enough for your kind words and thoughtful heart felt insights. It may sound cliche' but brother 'the struggle is real" ! it's unfortunate that many keep the struggle hidden. In our day and age it is all to common to know someone who died of cancer and mental health challenges. I thank God for the wise advice of your friend. I guarantee you that although I resist any drug treatment if push comes to shove and I spiral further than I can manage I would go the same route as your wife. It is so very vital that people seek outside help. I love the outdoors and it has definitely been a means of "medication" for me. Some may call it escapism but brother just getting out alone with God and creation has been the biggest blessing outside of my grandson in the past 3 years.
I have so much more to say and so little time to say it! Thank you for watching and more over thank you for your AMAZING comment! It means more than you know!

Can easily tell you are good people. I have tasked myself to watch all of the "Show us your steak" vids. I have struggled with anxiety and depression since i can remember. Finding God and having some very strong people in my life have helped for sure. Respect for what you are doing to promote this cause. God Bless Brother!
