So true! I like to have several editions of my absolute favourites-they’re like keys to various chambers of memory, your encounter with a certain book at a certain time preserved in amber. And then you revisit the same book but in fresh edition and it’s this delicious cross-layering of affect and echo.
dovers were lifesavers when i needed to buy books for high school english and lit classes, especially since my other textbooks were hundreds of dollars each! i still have every one of them with tons of underlining and writing in the margins and can't bear to give them up even though i've since purchased nicer editions of my favorites.
I feel the same about my old ratty beloved copies. Each one represents a slice of some earlier iteration of myself. What Geoff Dyer calls the “unwieldy diary” of one’s personal library. Thanks for sharing!
Can you please recommendations for beginners or for those of us who were avid readers as children and then because life got in the way didn’t keep up with the necessity of reading. I have seen quite a few of your videos but there's so much to cover it's a but overwhelming. Even a top 3 will do. 😊
Just found my love for reading again and from germany so i cant contribute. Just wanted to say nice informations on the books and a sub. I also try to have a look at different online sellers to see if some editions drop in price somewhere. I d prefer to support bookshops, but in germany mainly german books and online is often cheaper. So yeah if you really like a certain edition or book is worth it to keep an eye on the used retailer websites! I found some great deals on even out of print books there. Have a wonderful day.
I used to have an old kindle but lost it! Don’t need one now because I have a home library-but if I ever do extensive traveling again then I will definitely consider a kindle! And you?
@@brenboothjones I'm the opposite. I had a library then I decided to digitize. But still there's nothing quite like the smell and feel of an actual book. And they just enhance your living area. I think the one positive thing is its much harder to impulsively buy physical books whereas with kindle a 1 click charges up your credit card quite rapidly due to instant gratification. Also you end up making purchases for books you don't really get to read.
@@wisdomseeker3937 yes I love the atmosphere of a house full of books! But very large oversized or unwieldy books are quite nice to read on a kindle. Less risk of them crashing onto your face with cyclonic savagery if you drop them (:
What are your favourite affordable editions? (Ps will add timestamps asap!) thanks for watching :)
i'm weird and like collecting mass market classics (esp if they're vintage) so signet and bantam are my go-tos
Tiger! Tiger! burning bright,
In the forests of the night;
What immortal hand or eye
Dare frame thy fearful symmetry! 🐅
So powerful!
They are also really good for when you're reading something for the first time, if you like it, then you buy a fancy edition.

Dovers certainly do have a place!
I love the old beaten-up and dog-eared ones. So replete with memories.

Nice suggestion! Will put it on my list of video ideas! Thank you.
I’d love to keep the M&M’s and start reading William Blake. 🤓
Keats and Maltesers for me ❤️
Would you ever make one for Vintage red spine classics? They are my personal favourites.
Definitely! Been thinking about doing it for months :D
Please do! @@brenboothjones

Thanks for sharing! Out of print finds are always a delight. Have a lovely weekend.
Hey Bren. Have you perhaps reviewed Oscar Wilde's: The Picture of Dorian Gray? Could you please share the TH-cam link if you have. Thank you
Here we go! :)

@@brenboothjones wonderful, thank you kindly
Use the library?
I love libraries but sadly not everyone has access to libraries.
@@brenboothjones perhaps not a physical library, but you can borrow things digitally. I personally prefer a physical book, but hey, free is free
Do you ever do Kindle
