I passed my test last week and it was a lovely lady examiner, we talked from start to finish and the test felt like 5 minutes and I passed with 2 minors. It's very good advice to just make conversation if you have a chatty examiner, it calmed my nerves down massively.

Passed this morning 🎉 thank you Francis for all your help! My examiner was lovely, we had a proper good chinwag about any and everything. He also said he likes when candidates talk out loud about what they’re doing so he doesn’t have to guess what they’re thinking so your commentary video proper helped. Good luck to everyone learning!

On my test I was insanely nervous, like I'd never been before. My smart watch later told me that my heart rate was over 150 for 15 minutes and was just generally high the whole time. I still passed! Don't worry about your nerves, you can perform well even while you are nervous!!!!

My test was so quick compared to lessons and miles easier than all 3 mocks (which I failed)
I had a back/neck/shoulder massage day before my test and that helped as did hypnotherapy for driving test nerves, I was so calm during the actual test. Glad I got such a friendly examiner, we were chatting majority of the time, lovely, genuine guy.

pretty much agree with all of these! i had my first test and was a bag of nerves, didn't talk much, was even in the morning of test watching YT vids etc.. and failed. the second test (only 2 weeks later) i went into it with a "what will be will be" attitude, was chatty with the examiner and asked him what was his fave car to do a test in, he even said that was a good question and one he hadn't been asked before! i even talked out loud on what i could see etc.. and i passed :) and no banana in sight! thank you for your vids!

I passed my test just over two weeks ago on the 4th attempt so I know about failing and nerves. My tip is the week before start going to bed and getting 8 hours sleep. I did watch one TH-cam video just before my test and that was the show me tell me questions for the learner car, as nerves made me forget stuff- so this was fresh in my brain. I also listened to some positive driving affirmations on TH-cam too. This all help me pass - at last. Though I have to say the first time I drove into town in my car alone I thought my heart was gonna come out of my chest- it's so weird.

  • @MT-dn4tu

On the day of my driving test, I was sat in the centre waiting to be called, and I was fairly nervous. And then I saw a young girl, maybe 17 or 18 years old, roll into the centre in a wheelchair. I'm sure that girl must have had a hell of a time learning to drive, but she got through it and she was ready to take her test. I was sure that I couldn't have been as nervous as she was, and that my experience learning to drive couldn't have been anywhere near as difficult as hers.
I guess thinking about that calmed me down a little, and put things into perspective.

I was so nervous until 2 minutes into my test where I hesitated at the first roundabout and thought I picked up a serious fault, my nerves disappeared after that, so I was shocked when I was tols at the end he marked it as a minor.

It's completely normal to feel nervous during a driving test! Awesome to hear that you were able to regain your composure and that it ended up being a minor fault. Great job!

Failed 3 driving tests... on 3 different test locations... All the exmanimers hates small talk.
Asked at the beginning if I can adjust the mirror a bit, gave me a deep sigh. Double checked if he wanted me to change lanes to the left, showed me a hand point and never utter another word. Thanked them even after failing, not even a wave of goodbye and just walked away.
    .
So my tip, do not even bother initiating small talk to machines whose whole point is to fail you and give you points every step of the way. Come to your driving test expecting no mercy and you will be less dissapointed.

  • @kwameoluwasomi

You've already framed your test as an opportunity to gain driving freedom for the rest of your life, THAT's why you're nervous - you're worried you won't win that freedom.
Those nerves are tempered by the understanding that you don't actually want that freedom before you're ready. Maiming or, God forbid, killing someone (much less yourself) isn't fun. You won't forgive yourself even if the law somehow did, you'll wish you never got behind the wheel of a 2-tonne speed machine. If you get lucky, the wreckage alone is still a hassle. You'll think, "I could've easily Ubered, got the bus or the tube".
When you finally get into a car by yourself for the first time, and feel nervous all over again, you'll want to be able to remind yourself that the United Kingdom's Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency deems you safe enough to drive by yourself.
The above framing straightened me out so I could pass under immense pressure - my wife and kids were relying on me and I wasn't getting another opportunity for 2 years.

Yes it is but dont ever stress on them remember even if you cant answer the tell me or dont know how to do the show me question its one minor fault it only becomes serious if you perform the show me question dangerously. But sometimes for the show me they dont care if you know they show you anyway and make you do it as thats the whole point.
