  • Like many mushroom hunters, I love going out this time of year after rainstorms and looking for chanterelles, black trumpets, and whatever else is growing. We found this little used trail the week prior to filming and scored some awesome mushrooms. It definitely warranted a return trip to see what else we could find.
DO NOT CONSUME ANYTHING UNLESS YOU CAN POSITIVELY IDENTIFY IT!!
Chanterelles and black trumpets are a great addition to a main course, simply sauteed in butter. The black staining polypore was a first for us, and I can say that we enjoyed the flavor in rice. The powder will also be great to experiment with and see what dishes we can concoct. I already had ghost pipe and I've found quite a few of them lately, so we left those in the woods for someone else to find.

Hi and thanks for this. I found one of these about three weeks ago and I dried it. I couldn’t be happier with my results. It’s lovely in soups and barbecue sauces etc.

I’m not brave enough to eat mushrooms I find out in the woods. I find it all so confusing. I do find near the yadkin river some may apples. I read where the Indians used them for medicine but idk. Idk much about foraging.

Get a field guide or a mentor and start small. Identify one plant or mushroom at a time and learn that one before moving onto the next.
