    You need to add trap door baffles in the lower oil pan. The pickup tube is in the center of the oil pan so in high g turns the oil swooshes left/right and the engine runs dry. That's why GM recommends running a quart over for track use.

    glad to see the c5 getting some recognition. even happier to see a c5 on TH-cam that is not being victimized by some ignorant "must have" modifications.

      Corvettes are really good drift cars, if they have the steering and suspension support. It's nice that you really don't have to do anything to the engine to have more than enough power.

    buying a c5 with some body damage, but functionally perfect, and turning it into a relatively cheap drift car is the very achievable dream of mine.

    Yeah, you need a badass oil cooler, but if you're drifting an LS you need to convert it to a dry sump oiling system. It costs about $6k, but it'll drastically increase reliability while drifting these things.

    1 love how it's a six speed but he only uses first and rides the Rev limiter gotta love those vette drivers now I see why he runs a extra quart of oil

      Right? Ha. The gearing on these is soooo tall. He recently regeared it and it's much better

    I don't feel so bad about hitting my rev limiter now, sheesh...

    Thanks to Drifting, nissan s14 and similar platforms are unattainable now. Too expensive because most have been destroyed due to Drifting.

    • @DoctoredGarage
      @DoctoredGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm not sure if it's entirely due to drifting, but it's definitely a factor. It's crazy to see Japanese cars going through the same thing that American muscle cars do, it's really neat to see. But also sucks, there are cars that I thought I would be able to afford, but that's not the case anymore.

      It sucks but it makes my heart happy bc that’s what the cars were built for.

      most autistic take i have seen on this do you know how many goddamn s chassis were made granted there’s a lot in drifting but there is no more than 5% ruined from drifting

      Yeah Fr, my two favourite (looks wise) cars are a c5 corvette and the 240sx but but of them are so expensive. C5 I can justify though the price because they are pretty reliable.

      Pretty stoked the drift tax is coming for the c5 prices haha

    Looks like he has a LS2/3 throttle body as well. Also, for some of the people wanting to get a C5 to drift. Either get or have someone with a Tech 2 or some tuning software fully remove traction control. The button on C5's doesnt actually fully turn it off, just puts into a less demanding mode. So even when off, its still there a little and can reduce power. Have that turned off with a Tech or software and you're ready to rip! On C6's, the traction control button fully disables it.

    The C5 is a great all around car!! Biggest flaw is the stock cooling system
    Upgraded radiator/fans and oil cooler go along way in persevering the engine

    I’ve been wanting a c4 that I would throw money into get it ready to drift, im probably just going to save longer and get a c5
    Great video

    • @DoctoredGarage
      @DoctoredGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks! Unfortunately the C4s don't have much performance support for drifting yet, so imo they're not a good choice correctly.

    2:19 another reason i’d think people choose them for is the weight distribution. on the c5 they put the transmission in the back and made the torque tube to make it usable just to have better weight distribution

    • @DoctoredGarage
      @DoctoredGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm. I'm not sure how true that is. It's been a common trend for serious Corvette drift cars to get rid of the transaxle and put a T56 transmission in them.

    • @nicklove8857
      @nicklove8857 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DoctoredGarage The factory transmission is a T56. It's in the back bolted directly to the diff; technically not a transaxle.👍 Thanks for the video, cool to know that an Eastwood radiator works as an upgrade!

    • @DoctoredGarage
      @DoctoredGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's valid, it's not a true transaxle that they're all one unit, GM still calls it a transaxle though. The torque tube breaking seems to be a problem on a lot of them surprisingly.

    Looking at wheel gap it's lower than OEM. OEM height is TALL at 6" at the frame jacking points to the ground! Generally about 3.5 fingers of space in the rear wheel arches, 2.5 fingers of space up front in the wheel arches.

  • @MrATV612
    @MrATV612 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is there a link to the radiator he’s running? What’s his coolant temperatures looking like?

    Throw it in 2nd give it a little clutch If you need to so you don't grip up

    • @DoctoredGarage
      @DoctoredGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The crazy thing is this car was geared so tall that I really didn't need to. I could've dropped tire pressure down and gripped up a bit more in 1st gear and been fine.

      I can't say for sure, but I think a lot of the Corvette drift guys overfill by 1 quart.
